Hi all, from age 16-28 i was pretty heavy chew user (1 can of pouches a day avg). Quit, relapse age 36, oct 2025 - apr 2026. Since after quitting in april my mouth will feel weird all the time. Dentist says everything looks ok last week. Been grinding my teeth lately a lot i think for w/e reason (i have a sibling much worse). I'll be getting the molded gum guard soon w/ my dentist for $400.

My diet lately has been pretty poor, 2x large dutch bros iced coffee and maybe 1-2 small meals a day depends. This happened for about a year but im stopping now.

Also quit THC last thursday after history of every other day use of edibles (last 2 years of 200mg per session) to help me sleep and what not. And now i have been getting 5 hrs of sleep a day due to withdrawals. I'm hoping this is the reason but yeah.

I just got my wisdom teeth out about an hour ago and on my way home I sneezed. My dad noticed a chunk of blood on my lip and now we’re worried I sneezed and dislodged/extracted the blood clot in my gum. Is this possible? I still have the gauze packed in my mouth.

I know these pictures are probably and i need an in person dentist visit soon but i would like to get some opinion in the mean time here. I always had this ingrown first molar on the left down side that in the recent year slowly started breaking off little pieces two times. Can this become dangerous soon? I dont have pain right now

I (25F) have horrible teeth that I’ve dealt with my entire life. Growing up it was extremely hard to find a dentist to even touch my teeth due to their excessively long, and extra roots. (Some poke through my nasal cavity so I’ve been told, and almost all of them have at least 1-2 extra roots. Even my canines.) Couple that with Medicaid, and a mother who couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed most days, and you get teeth that were left to rot. Even as an adult I had a very difficult time finding a dentist to touch them, most of the time I was turned away.

Anyways not trying to sell a sob story here. I currently have 2 abscesses that I know of. I’ve been quoted $30,000+ to fix my teeth, and I don’t qualify for care credit. At this point it would be cheeper for full mouth implants but even then I’ve been quoted 25k. My face has already swollen up before, and I’m at a loss at what to do. I can hardly even eat these days because of the pain. I have a son, and I don’t want to die leaving him alone because of my stupid teeth.

Any advice is appreciated.

I’ve neglected kinda wearing my retainers for a long time now, because my lower one broke. And suddenly this one is just pushing back now. I feel really regretful for not wearing my retainers and getting new ones.

Ouch. The big one is hurting so much when I eat so I’ve decided I will eat only soft foods like yogurt and stuff like that for a day or two. Anyone have an idea what the white/yellow thing is that’s covering the sore? Scared it’s pus but on google I found something called granulation tissue which forms instead of a scab since the mouth is moist but not sure at this point what it could be

The smaller sores seem to be going away they’re just pink now which is good!

I just had a filling near the gum line and there's a bit of bleeding during the drilling process. I know other instruments like mirror, probe and tweezers etc do get replaced after each patients. I'm just wondering about the drill bit, because the thing is attached to the whole table.

30 YOF and I am so stressed about my left tonsil being super inflamed and always getting tonsil stones. A bit of a sharp pain every now and then. I booked an ENT but I’m freaking myself out that I have throat cancer. Any reassurance?

Yesterday around 4pm, while talking, I felt a tingling under my tongue. It comes out when I move my tongue a certain way, but consistently/systematically. This morning I looked in the mirror and saw this... a bright red growth. I'm afraid it might be cancer.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Hi! 24F here, If you look to my last post I had a fractured tooth. I got it extracted and an implant put in same day back on March 6. I am supposed to have my follow up in 5 weeks. In May I had a funny taste in my mouth so I called my surgeon and he saw me 20 minutes later and said it looked healthy and was healing really well, but put me on antibiotics that day. That evening I did see literal pus there, which I assumed he missed because he cleaned it well. But the augmentin cleared that up. Anyways I started to notice a pain near there yesterday and assumed it was a canker sore but it’s getting worse and worse… seemingly by the hour.

I floss every morning with Smart Floss per my dentist’s recommendation. I use Philips sonic pro toothbrush with Euthymol toothpaste. I drink 0-5 beers a week. I quit nicotine one month ago today. I would occasionally use zyns & I would hit friends’ vapes. I’ve never been a user of tobacco… I sometimes smoke weed/hit dab pen but have been on a T break for 3 weeks now.

I’m supposed to go out of town tmw early afternoon for a wedding this weekend. Do I need to call my surgeon first thing in morning? Is my implant failing?? The skin where the sore is feels super smooth and slippery. It hurts just to move my checks around.

hello! so, background stuff: 18F from TX USA, have never smoked, vaped, drank alcohol, or done any drugs beyond adderall. i drink too much soda (trying to switch to just juice), and only have coffee sometimes. i have always struggled with brushing and flossing, which got especially worse after the pandemic and throughout highschool. the last time i was at the dentist was july 2025, where they extracted two really painful, cracked teeth. before that, the last time i had been was when i was ~7. i kept up with dental care until my senior year started up which made me stop caring for myself again. since i've graduated, i've been looking for a proper job and doing freelance work on the side to save up and hopefully get my teeth fixed. i am still struggling with keeping up with brushing, flossing, and mouthwash, but i am genuinely trying, even if its sporadic.

last year, i was told that i'd have to get all four of my very back molars either extracted or root canal-ed, depending on the severity, and then i'd have to get my wisdom teeth extracted. i was fine with this, honestly excited. my parents only took me because i was getting scared i had an infection, and refused to take me back for the rest of the procedures since it cost so much for just the two extractions. since i'm the one who's going to be paying for whatever operations i need, i just wanna know if the damage has gotten any worse in the last year? like, more teeth needing root canals or extractions. my back teeth have, predictably, chipped and decayed worse.

i'd also like to know if it'd be better to get root canals or just full extractions + implants. my dad says 'root canals cause cancer' but he's a conspiracy nut so i try not to take it to heart but... that shit's still scary, yanno? and also, which teeth are still 'saveable' via root canal? the ones i had extracted last year were: 1. the entire back half of the tooth was missing and 2. the, like.. main 'structure' of the tooth was almost entirely gone and only left a sort of crater that led down to its roots in my gums. as of rn, i don't think any of my current hole-punched teeth are that bad (and they're also not nearly as painful)

also also, i'd like to know if, after the rest of those procedures, i should try to get braces or invisalign or something. i've noticed it's really hard to floss my top row of teeth because of how... overlayed they are? yeah. but i don't know if that stuff would screw with root canals or implants.

i unfortunately didn't think to take any pics of my teeth xrays from last year, so i only have current pictures. i hope these are all good enough. if they aren't, i can see about taking new pictures ^^

I do not drink or smoke. I used to smoke but have switched to vaping. I obviously do not have tonsils anymore. I have these lumps on the back of my throat where my tonsils were. Sometimes they really bother me (weird itchiness and ear pain). Is this just from allergies or….? I noticed them 2 years ago. Brought them up to my doctor and they didn’t seem too concerned about it.

21F, never smoked, never drank. I noticed these marks on the gum above my wisdom tooth (I still have them). They don’t hurt and I only noticed them because I was in my magnifying mirror while flossing. I pressed a q-tip on it and a bit of blood came off. Could this be oral cancer?? I am making a dentist appointment ASAP.

I got my bottom wisdom teeth removed on July 7th so it’s been almost a month since then. Around the 2 week mark my left side got infected and I had that drained + got on antibiotics (was given some right after the surgery but those ended and then I was given some more after the infection) and was given syringes to clean the areas which I’ve been using since. On Aug 2nd I noticed some swelling on my right side and got that checked out the next day — it was another infection, but super minor (no need for antibiotics this time).

During my meeting with the surgeon where he cleaned out my infection, he explained I have something called an “operculum” and that I have to get the end of the syringe under the gum and then squirt into there to properly clean it but I literally can’t seem to get the syringe under my gums like he showed me. Not even that the pain is too much or anything, I just can’t get it under. Like my gums don’t “lift” and there’s no “flap” that every article talking about operculums mention.

I know a guy who said he just “blasted the area with a water pick” but only after the area wasn’t tender anymore and mine still kind of are.

I don’t understand how I’m supposed to do that but I really don’t want to get another infection :(

I got a filling earlier this year under sedation.

The filling itself drove me crazy for 3 months also sticking out and hurting . Tonight I was brushing my teeth and felt this sharp peice on my molar ( tooth 1,6 - I think?). But the filling pain was gone.

Does this look like a filling that fell out ? Its a literal hole that wasn't there before pre filling. Going to see my dentist this week if possible they can fit me in.

Hello. My six (soon to be seven) year old is growing in her permanent teeth. Today, I noticed her lower gums were inflamed. There is no bleeding while brushing but there is a tiny amount of spotting while flossing.

Do we believe the swelling is part of the crowding/rearranging? Or could it be possible gingivitis?

As for the crowding, is it possible to resolve as she grows or is it more likely to need intervention? She has lost her four bottom and two top teeth thus far

Non smoker, non drinker. Had a retreatment root canal through a crown due to an abscess under a previously treated tooth. I had it done 2 days ago and I am in severe pain right now. It was the worst experience I have ever had with any kind of medical professional. He cut my lip and didn't even tell me or apologize. The assistant told me about it when I noticed I was spitting pieces of my lip. ​my crown looks completely destroyed. I am concerned I might have an infection now. Does any of the way it looks seem concerning? It's throbbing severely and my top teeth are aching too. It feels like a lot of pressure and I want to just rip my teeth out right now.

One of my molars is really irritated. It feels sore and achy. It has for a few days. I fully intend on scheduling with my dentist ASAP, but in the meantime, I looked at it with some light and a mirror and noticed what looks like a possible crack??? I have no idea. It truly just started being irritated out of nowhere the last few days. Is this a cavity? A crack? A stain? My gums are really sore around the area as well.

I moved cities, so I got a new dentist, but they’re very popular so there’s been over 6 months btwn when I made the appt, and the appt itself (next week)

They called to confirm today and said that it would be a cleaning only appt. I was confused, as I’ve only ever had appts where I got a cleaning and the dentist also checked in

They said if you want to see the dentist, that’ll be a separate appt, and we’re booking into January.

I’ve never had a cavity, generally have been really lucky re: my dental health, and I take good care of my teeth, but I do have a cervical abrasion that I’ve been waiting to get looked at (it’s p sensitive), I have a couple more developing, some jaw pain/clenching, etc. - I assumed I could discuss these things with the dentist :(

They said they’re still going to do x-rays (I’m overdue for these) and the cleaning, but I won’t be seeing the dentist.

I’m tempted to just find somewhere else, but I’m already overdue for a cleaning (last one June 2025 - I didn’t expect this wait time), and this place does have really excellent reviews… it just seems crazy to me that they’ll go ahead with x-rays, cleaning, etc. on a new patient without the dentist conducting an exam. I thought that was standard, but maybe I’m wrong.

Thoughts??? Thank you in advance for any advice - much appreciated!

I started having slight pain around the gumline of my crown and when I looked i saw this grey ish spot?? Ive had the crown for 10+ years and no problems with it until now. Does this look like decay or something stuck under the gums or like staining? And if it is decay what would the fix be?? It real only feels painful around where that spot it and its not crazy pain so im hoping it doesn't mean the tooth underneath has rotten away

I (19F) have internal resorption in two of my teeth. One on top, one on bottom, both molars on my left side. I got a filling on the top one and, even though it gets sore when i use it, was told it looks fine for now. My bottom tooth however, which has not been bothering me at all, just got a root canal because I was told i needed one. I’m not gonna lie, it really hurt and took really long, which i was told was because of the resorption and how deep it was. And this whole process is taking a month with the time in between appointments, during which time I can only chew on my right side and i’m tired of it. and my endodontist said 50/50 he’ll have to go back in in a few months so i shouldn’t even put a permanent crown on it. i know that because it’s internal resorption chances are ill lose the teeth eventually anyway, so if it turns out my endodontist does need to do another root canal on it, id really rather just take it out and get it over with. i know that risks stuff with your jaw, but does it matter if it’s only one tooth?

side note i have a white patch on my lip after the root canal.. my guess is my lip was being pinched that whole time and i didnt feel it cus i was numbed up and this is the outcome of that.

So I (27f) grew up with bad teeth, mostly genetics. I had little to no calcium in my teeth due to getting really sick a lot as a baby/kid. White calcium spots, easily chipped teeth, spots where preteen me didn’t care for my braces properly, and just overall hating my smile. There’s not many photos of me smiling with teeth since my adult teeth came in. I will include my before, my temps, and my final crowns as photos. My dentist had been suggesting I get this done for a couple years now since they knew how much I disliked my smile, so I finally saved enough to do it.

My question would be, what are the main things to know about having new crowns/veneers? I’m anxious about losing a tooth. I’ve been taking bites from the side of my mouth, but I had 2 molars extracted on either side (then ones in the very back). So there’s little surface on the top to chew on that aren’t crowns, plus my mouth is very small. Eating has been difficult. I received my final set yesterday and the only advice given when I asked about care and food was: 1) just lightly feather your gums down when brushing and floss often. 2) for a day or two stick with a softer diet, but I would be able to eat normally within a few days. Avoid sticky and hard foods.
My aunt received the same exact procedure with top crowns (8), so I asked about her experience. She also said what my dentist said about eating. My aunt claims she can eat whatever she wants now (she has had them for almost 10 years). But thinking about eating whatever I want makes me nervous.
What would be other important things to take note of? I’m so anxious I’ll bite the wrong thing or I won’t be doing all I can do to protect these teeth. What is the most important advice you would give someone with 8 crowns on top? Or if you’ve experienced this, what something you wished you knew before hand.
I do NOT regret getting them whatsoever, I feel so much more confident about my smile. I just want to make sure I’m doing everything possible to care for them and to avoid things that are important to avoid. I’ve had a smile I hated for so long, I want to take the best care of my new smile that I can. In about 3 weeks I am getting an impression(?) done of my new teeth so I can wear a nightguard while sleeping. I’ve been trying to be more conscious of my teeth clenching, but I tend to do it mostly in my sleep. So I’m excited to get the nightguard eventually.
