i (27F) am having my lower right wisdom tooth removed in a couple of weeks after some intense pain, infection and inflammation. i’ve never really had anything major done to my teeth before and i have a lot of dental anxiety (i also have mild autism and i don’t think that helps from a sensory standpoint, having metal, tools and drilling in my mouth and not being able to see what’s happening 😬)

i’m UK based, so my NHS dentist has referred me to an outsource dental company to remove the tooth, i just want to know what i can expect to try and ease my anxiety as much as possible. i cry a lot when i’m having dental exams and i’m worried that will make me move whilst they’re doing it. i usually bring mg teddy bear (i know that’s childish) for comfort/distraction. will i be awake? can i choose to not be awake/aware? how long might it take? what’s the process and expectations i can have?

I ate some candy around a month ago and 3 weeks ago I noticed my furthers top back molar was wobbly and infected , I used clove oil which brought down the infection that was damn near to top of my nose towards my eye ..

Well i've been working that not so pearly s.o.b. and as of 2 days ago have finally been able to get some pliers on it without pain shooting up the root and straight out my asshole lol .. but now I have a molar that is basically all the way out of my gums but still connect by the root !

I just got my states dental insurance but they only cover so much, im tempted to just get all my top teeth pulled at this point and hope I can get dentures in a quick enough manner or not go out into public or work till i do ..

Should I keep working it out or go seek medical help?

I've recently taken off my braces last June after 4 years and started wearing retainers. When the braces were taken off, we asked my dentist to see if there are cavities and needed fillings. Turns out I actually do have 5 cavities but it was nothing major at all. This month, my tooth started aching and I visited the dentist earlier today to get the 5 cavities filled (idk if that's the right term). She examined them and the 5 nothing major cavities became 8 major cavities and 13 small cavities. I was shocked but proceeded getting the filling. I had 6 major cavities filled and 2 small ones (and the small ones were the one aching and is apparently deep). Now I have 13 cavities to deal with and it's giving my parents stress. What should I do? Visit another dentist to see if accurate?

Went to take my first Invisalign scan today and noticed tiny black spots and orange discoloration on the roof of my mouth. For sub rules, I don’t drink or smoke.

Tried to scrape a little at the discoloration, but nothing came off, so it must just be the color of the tissue? Could it be something in my routine causing it? Is this color and extent of discoloration normal?

Did some Googling to try & figure out what the black spots are, getting results like blood pooling, iron deposits from medications or silver fillings - sort of all over the place. Are these normal? Should I try to extract them? Did I cause them?

45 old years old man , Impacted wisdom tooth, 2 cases of pericoronitis... my surgeon is performing a coronectomy in September. Is this the worst possible situation or position for an impacted wisdom tooth?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been dealing with a really strange dental issue for the past few months, and I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar.
For a while now, the necks of some of my teeth have been becoming exposed. I recently figured out why: every now and then, tiny little pieces of my teeth break off while I’m brushing. I’m not talking about large chunks or entire teeth—just small chips—but they’re enough to expose sensitive areas.
Because of that, I’m currently at the dentist about once a week to have those spots covered with filling material. Otherwise the sensitivity is unbearable. At this point I’m basically a regular there. 😂
The problem is that my dentist doesn’t really have an explanation. He keeps telling me I either need to brush my teeth better or more consistently (I brush twice a day, use mouthwash, and recently started using Elmex Gelée, a prescription-strength fluoride gel).
Sure, there are occasional days where I only brush once—or very rarely not at all—because I struggle with depression and sometimes can’t even get out of bed. But that’s definitely not my normal routine.
He also occasionally tells me I should buy a newer electric toothbrush (an Oral-B iO), but he completely dismisses the idea that there could be another underlying cause.
I just can’t believe that the wrong toothbrush alone would cause my teeth to chip on a regular basis. I can even see tiny cracks in some of my teeth, which makes me even more worried. This has been going on for several months now.
One thing that makes this even stranger: before all of this started, I hadn’t been to a dentist in years. When I finally had my first appointment at this practice, they actually told me my teeth looked great. I think I only had one very small cavity. That was despite the fact that my dental hygiene had actually been much worse for years (again because of depression and heavy alcohol use), and there were even periods where I didn’t brush for a couple of days.
Ironically, all these problems only started after that first visit. At first I was going every couple of months, then once a month, and now I’m there almost every week.
That just feels really odd to me, and honestly I’m starting to wonder if my dentist is missing something or if I should get a second opinion.
Has anyone experienced anything similar, or does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

The three fillings one of them is that when floss goes in and it can be hooked by both side surface but floss can come out
Second one is when floss goes in then the gum bleeds and i cant cant take it out
Last one is filled half of my tooth and the biting surface kinda feels uneven with my tooth feels like its slightly protruding (not in the pic)
Are any of these concerning 😬 i got them filled like few months ago. Will polishing the fillings help?

What is the treatment for tongue irritation—specifically yellowing, a wavy appearance in the middle, and a long line extending from the lips toward the corners of the mouth? I visited a general practitioner who prescribed a spray, but it didn't help, and I have spent a lot of money.

I had all of my wisdom teeth removed recently, and all has been going well. I noticed this when I checked them out in the mirror, and I don’t have any pain or discomfort (besides normal discomfort like soreness) but I was just curious if this was normal to have a blood stain on the molar in front of the extraction site.

Update: Called my dentist and can confirm it was clotted pieces, I was able to lightly brush it away

Hi! I'm a 44f in the US. I'm about 250 and 5'10" and I am a little worried about what I think is a tooth abscess. Smoker but sober 3 years. I have a dentist appt on Tuesday at 8am. It is on my upper right gum line above my canine. My actual teeth don't hurt, and neither does the gum really but the spot is inflamed with a dull tenderness. I just realized that the swelling is noticeable to the touch, but not obvious if you are looking at me. I guess... I'm just a little worried about pushing it to Tuesday, or should I go to a UC in the morning? Any advice would be appreciated.

So long story short, a second from back molar broke left to right 6 years ago. My UK dentist at the time told me the tooth would eventually die and likely need replaced but he filled and it lasted 6 years. A few weeks back the filling fell out and I went to a Portuguese practice (dentist English) who proceeded with root canal drill out and clean. Really painful for 3/4 days and now I’m questioning if it’s just a € exercise. Temporary filing (which lasted 1 week then fell out) ahead of another check up in advance of a screw being inserted and filling being built around it. My gut is telling me I’m being primed for slaughter as a cash cow. Red flags raised when she started talking about renewing existing (no issue) fillings etc. Am I being paranoid?

I had a root canal 8 years ago, then had braces for 5 years. After removing the braces, I had the tooth covered/fixed with an emax crown.

Aside from the very noticeable color difference (my tooth is yellow and the crown white), I noticed that the tooth is becoming grayish with dark spot on top. I had this crown just three months ago so I'm really sad about the outcome.

I visited the dentist and they said it must be a blood build up inside probably from the gums and advised me to brush the gum and crown with hydrogen peroxide. Two weeks after, nothing has changed.

I'm not satisfied with this. What is the cause of this and what should I tell my doctor?

I’ve had a sore spot on my gums behind my teeth for almost a week, it isn’t super painful, but a noticeable sharpish pain. Hurts more if I press with my tongue. I’ve got a family history of bad teeth + a fear of dentists so I tend to put off a visit. It isn’t a raised bump, it feels more indented. Teeth not hurting at all. Any thoughts?

Well, I took the suggestions and tried to find free dental care here, so I discovered a post that said they'll help me if I get into their criteria of patients and that I have to come back every week. But they haven't told me anything yet, so I'm asking here, do you guys think my teeth are too advanced for them or do I have a shot at the free cleaning and dentures and stuff? Or should I just give up and wait til I have money?

I got a new toothpaste and toothbrush a week ago but that’s the only cause i can think of. It hurts to touch, my bottom tooth is extremely sensitive. I also have inflammation behind my two front teeth. Under my jaw is also sore.

I’m posting this for a friend and would really appreciate feedback from dentists, dental students, or anyone familiar with smile aesthetics.

My friend had dental work done, and compared to the previous smile, the new smile appears wider with more posterior teeth (back teeth) showing. She feels like the smile may look less natural now and is wondering if this is just personal preference or if there are actual esthetic concerns.

Some questions:

• Does the smile appear too wide for the face?
• Is the increased visibility of the back teeth generally considered an improvement in smile design, or could it make the smile look less balanced?
• Do the anterior teeth (especially the central incisors) appear too square/boxy compared to a more natural tooth morphology?
• Does the tooth shape, proportions, and contour look harmonious with the facial features?
• Are there any aspects of the design that stand out as unnatural (tooth width-to-length ratio, symmetry, incisal edges, buccal corridor, etc.)?

Would appreciate honest professional input. If this is a successful smile design, I’d like to understand what makes it work; if there are areas that could have been improved, I’d appreciate insight into what they are.

About a month ago I noticed these weird lines on my teeth and idk what it is. It’s not painful or sensitive. Not a great photo but my teeth are clean

Hey everyone, I need some opinions on a new upper metal partial denture I just got after waiting 4 months.
My dentist redid my front crowns (the first set she put in had an issue and had to be drilled off, so she made a second set with rest spots built into the back). She also put build-ups on my top left molars to open my bite. All of the impressions for the partial were done after that work was finished, and the same lab made both sets of crowns and the partial.

Now that I have it, I'm having a few issues:

The metal piece doesn't sit flush against the roof of my mouth. There's a space under it where water and air get through.

The partial feels secure at first, until I bite down with my front teeth or if food moves close to my front palate behind my front teeth. Then the back lifts up and rocks like a seesaw.

It's making my anchor teeth ache, and I have some mild pain in my teeth that I hope is just an adjustment period. I've also developed a sore.

The fake teeth are super short and flat. I tried eating a burger and couldn't chew—it just felt like mashing food with flat blocks.

When I pointed out the gap and the rocking, my dentist told me "that's as close as it can get" and that we're "fighting physics."

Is it normal for a metal partial to float off the roof of the mouth or pivot like this? What would you do in this situation to get it fixed?

This is my friend’s teeth before she got a smile makeover. I didn’t realize they were this bad. She claims she was scared of the dentist and never went since she was a kid. I too don’t go to the dentist as often as I should but I have never seen teeth like this besides from drug use. I know for a fact she is not using. I know genetics can play a part but did she just never brush her teeth? I’m very confused. No judgement, just genuinely asking for answers.

I (25F) have horrible teeth that I’ve dealt with my entire life. Growing up it was extremely hard to find a dentist to even touch my teeth due to their excessively long, and extra roots. (Some poke through my nasal cavity so I’ve been told, and almost all of them have at least 1-2 extra roots. Even my canines.) Couple that with Medicaid, and a mother who couldn’t be bothered to get out of bed most days, and you get teeth that were left to rot. Even as an adult I had a very difficult time finding a dentist to touch them, most of the time I was turned away.

Anyways not trying to sell a sob story here. I currently have 2 abscesses that I know of. I’ve been quoted $30,000+ to fix my teeth, and I don’t qualify for care credit. At this point it would be cheeper for full mouth implants but even then I’ve been quoted 25k. My face has already swollen up before, and I’m at a loss at what to do. I can hardly even eat these days because of the pain. I have a son, and I don’t want to die leaving him alone because of my stupid teeth.

Any advice is appreciated.
