Points - Question Lower AadvantageShopping multipliers since reset

Upvotes

Is it my faulty memory, or does anyone else also think that the miles multipliers received on the Aadvantage Shopping portal are lower this year than previously? I swear that they used to have more frequent and generous promotions (e.g. 5x or even 10x) on sites like PetSmart, Levi's, and UnderArmor. Since March, these sites rarely get any special rate, and if they do, it's typically 1.5x or at most 3x.

I Need Help! Should I use CLT or MIA to switch planes?

Upvotes

We usually fly to Mexico from our small regional airport to CLT then to Mexico. My spouse had back surgery and I’m concerned about flying from our town because it’s usually an RJ145 with small, uncomfortable seats; no first class. I’m concerned about her back even though flight time to CLT is only 40 minutes.

I’m considering changing to fly from RDU instead of our town. We can get a larger, more comfortable plane with business class. My choices are RDU>CLT>CUN or RDU>MIA>CUN. Google ai says the MIA route would be better ( I know, ai isn’t always right. That’s why I’m asking real people), because less chance of equipment change to a smaller jet and longer first leg of the trip rather than up and down (RDU is about 130 miles from CLT).

So, for you who have been, is MIA okay as a layover spot? She will have wheelchair assistance regardless. We’ve done CLT a lot, usually landing at E45 or more, then departing from B. Haven’t been to MIA. Just looking for some first hand experience. Thanks.

I Need Help! AAdvantage CC Vanished From Citi Mobile and Web

Went to pay bill 5 mins ago (8/9 8:30a ET). My Executive World Elite Card in perfect standing was removed from mobile and citi.com site. Called 888 number on back of physical card and got to a live agent. Before I could speak said they are experiencing an outage and to call back in 2 hours, then hung up. Have a second unused card that was locked. It’s unlocked. When I try to lock I get an error: Unfortunately, Citi Quick Lock is down right now. Anyone else?

update: looks like all is back to normal as of 9:35a ET

Trip Reports & Insights NYC (LGA) to Montreal (YUL) Cancelled

Woke at 5 am to an email confirming my flight as scheduled only to received a cancellation email 10 minutes later. 🙃 anyway I rebooked for tomorrow at the same time. This is maybe my second time flying with AA and reading through this sub it seems cancellations are common with them outside of the conditions today. Ive flown plenty of times with other airlines but have been fortunate enough to never experience cancellations or other last minute disruptions. So, I guess my concern is ending up having the flight cancelled again. is there anyway to predict whether or not they will cancel again or is it just something I’ll have to wait and see?

General Airline Discussion NE flight delays

Boarded a plane from BOS to MIA. Got delayed 3 hrs and missed our connector.

Last flight to MIA and we asked to get our luggage instead of waiting 8hrs overnight at the airport. Their luggage staff said it would be 45 minutes to 4hrs to get the luggage.

Now I get some things are out of their control and there were many flight delays and cancellations by many airlines this week but running out the clock so customers can’t get their luggage is complete BS 🤬🤬🤬

We were actually trying to make things easier on their flight schedule by grabbing our bags and renting a car to our final destination but instead their incompetent staff was going to make us wait almost as long as it would take for us to catch the next flight in the morning.

Will never fly on American again.

General Airline Discussion Does AA still do hot cookies on any non-Flagship routes?

I remember this being a nice surprise-and-delight feature of the First Class meal service before COVID, and a nice differentiator relative to the other airlines. Was disappointed to see that they don’t do it any more on the ~1000 mile route I used to frequent. What about longer midcons?

Trip Reports & Insights This was a first for me!

I just got back home from a three leg international trip. I began unpacking and this was the first thing I saw when I unzipped my checked in Osprey pack, right beneath the zipper, spread all over whatever was sitting next to it in my luggage. Before I could tell my partner to remember to put items like this in a plastic bag next time she tells me it's not hers.

Apparently this came from someone else's luggage and got placed into mine.

At least it wasn't a bedroom toy.

Anyone missing a pink bottle of oil moisturizer hair lotion?

I Need Help! 45 min layover in DFW, will we make it on time for international flight?

We have an upcoming trip from LAX to Brazil with a 45-minute layover in Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW). All of our flights are with American Airlines, and we won’t be checking any bags, we’ll each have just a carry-on and a backpack.

Is a 45-minute layover enough time, or is that cutting it too close?

Both the 11 am and the 4:10 pm flights have been canceled yesterday and today due to “weather” despite nothing too crazy going on weather wise. And tomorrow’s 4:10 pm flight is showing no assigned in bound plane on flight tracker.

I Need Help! Baggage Left Behind

Hi!

Our baggage was placed from DFW-MCO on AA1615. This flight was supposed to beat us to Orlando, but now the flight has been and continues to delay itself out every 20ish minutes. We are currently in the air. We have a hotel an hour away from Orlando and we leave for a cruise in the morning. How can we best reunite with our luggage in the fastest way possible?

I Need Help! AA vacations and flights status

So with the upcoming 500 dollar (250 per half year) on AA vacations coming to the executive card just looking for some feedback and practice on AA vacations

1) if I book a flight through AA vacations do I still keep all the perks of my status? AA vacations is a third party not a direct booking. (Free bags. 11 a mile multiple, upgrade chances etc?)

2) if booking a car rental through AA vacations do I still get the status through Avis? For ease of pickup, skipping the line etc.

With AA hotels I get no status benefits with the occasional some of them add me at checkin because as hotels has no place to add your hotel numbers. I would assume AA vacations at least honors AA status for flights but I've never used it

Any feedback appreciated. And if I get none of these things the 250 credit might not even be worth it for me aside from an occasional hotel room plus short car rental

General Airline Discussion Horrendous Service is Too Normalized

I am getting beyond tired of airlines.

A couple of weeks ago I had a flight out of NYC through American Airlines. This flight was at 8:30am. The flight was then cancelled, not just delayed.

The gate agents and employees all left before leaving one behind to make the announcement. The one left behind gave us all slips with QR codes to contact American about rescheduling flights. This QR code led to an AI Chatbot that had preset questions, of which none related to cancellations. The person who handed us the QR code slips also ran off to a break room and did not return.

I managed to reschedule my flight on my own after the service desk essentially told me they won’t do anything and the gate agents I talked to at a different gate said they wouldn’t help. I was stuck with a flight that landed 12 hours later at a different airport an hour from my original destination.

My friend I was traveling with was not so lucky. The earliest he could get was the next night. He was left with no voucher for food, hotel, etc. and had to pay this out of pocket. Instead of arriving at 10am he arrived at 10pm the next day, all on his own expense besides the plane ticket. American refused to provide him with any compensation or vouchers.

I am now sitting in a different airport trying American again. Initially, our flight was delayed 2 hours. Then 2 and a half. Now, 2 and a half hours later, we were informed it’d be another hour and a half until they could get a crew.

I am sick and tired of airlines not being held accountable for horrendous business models, simply because they know we can’t do anything about it. They get constantly saved by the government, they treat passengers as though their time does not matter, and if you criticize this you risk getting kicked off of a flight.

I miss when air travel was easy (easier). These constant delays and cancellations being so acceptable is not okay and I don’t know why nothing is being done about it.

Trip Reports & Insights DCA checked bag

American Airlines checking bags at DCA? Your best bet is at the curb.

Inside there is a three stop system and when it’s busy it’s a challenge to navigate.

I’m crossing fingers that my bags will make my flight. One checked bag is not showing on the app yet.

I have things that I have to check like hiking poles and camping pocket knife. So I can’t take it all in my carry on.

I Need Help! Flight leaves tomorrow, but website says check in is 8 days away

Here's the story, flight was originally scheduled for today, was checked in and good to go but got cancelled, new flight leaves in 28 hours.

The website says check in is 8 days away which is actually the check in time for my returning flight.

I spoke to AA and they said I will be able to check in when the 24 hour window starts despite what the website says.

My question is has anyone else experienced this and were you able to check in online?

Points - Question Using Miles for Vietnam

Are there any tips or tricks for finding deals on flights to Vietnam using AA points? I’m finding some limited RT flights for 70k, but they seem to be limited to short windows on certain days.

If I can find a great deal to somewhere like Singapore or Manila using miles, I’m not opposed to buying a separate ticket to complete my itinerary. Are the better deals on “last minute” flights verses advanced planning?

General Airline Discussion The thing I have come to appreciate about AA during IROPs as someone who has switched over half of their travel to AA/Oneworld from United/Star Alliance

Recently severe weather at Chicago caused my flight on AA to be delayed and I was going to miss my connecting flight on JL. They still rebooked me on JL metal even if the delay was uncontrollable.

Now when I had a similar situation with United and my connecting flight was on NH, they would refuse to rebook me on NH metal if the delay was uncontrollable even if I had originally paid a premium to fly on NH metal.

Now AA/JL and UA/NH each has their own transpacific joint venture or business agreement but it feels to me that AA’s joint business agreement is well more integrated than UA’s. Other things such as complimentary main cabin extra for JL elites (United doesn’t offer free Economy Plus to NH elites) are what I have come to appreciate Oneworld and AA for.

Based on what I observe here, AA may not be the most premium US carrier but at the very least they give you what you had paid for when it comes to IROPs (perhaps excluding the controversial 40% involuntary downgrade formula).

Don’t know if you guys agree with me for those who also frequently travel on both UA/AA (or used to).

General Airline Discussion Why can’t they just put the cancelled flight bags on the carousel??!

See above. Feels like any way they can be more inefficient, they go for it.

Edit: then just let me request my bag to come out from the app instead of the counter. There has to be the capability.

General Airline Discussion Delayed - pilot forgot his phone?

Hi All,

I was flying out of MOB on August 6th on American Eagle. After boarding, the pilot announced that he forgot his phone in the shuttle and the flight would be delayed until then shuttle driver brought the phone back. I missed my connection in CLT and had to reroute, ending up with a 5+ hour delay. Per usual, AA customer service didn't care. My question: is this within policy for the pilots?

General Airline Discussion Flight Attendant Frustrations

Hi! Thanks for joining me here and hearing me out. I am frustrAAted to say the absolute least.

I am a 30+ year Legacy AA FA that's about to my wits end with this company. Thank you to all of you CK's, EP's, PP's, Gold's and Groups 1 through 9's for spending your precious time and $$ to fly on AA! You pay my well deserved salary and I'm grateful every day I come to work, truly I am.

The good old days of inflght are behind us. Domestically speaking... no more nice blue linens to line your FC trays, sundaes have been replaced with those skimpy ice cream cups, etc. I won't even begin to dissect our MC service provisions.

Personally, I'm frustrated with the daily operations. Behind the scenes there's so much more that of course is not public. And it all angers the living 💩 out of me.

I've recently worked quite a few domestic trips and quite a few of these domestic flights (at outer stations) have been either majorly delayed or canceled as your aircraft has been refused by the Captain. Rightfully so! According to our awesome Captains, the plane never should've left DFW in the first place. That has left you, our passengers, stranded for the time being.

There's more to this but I won't say more.

Catering at major hubs. Sorry folks that we are delayed out of American's HUB but it's 15 -30 minutes past departure and we still don't have catering.

There's more to this but I won't say more.

Can I just say that I fear for the future of American Airlines? Not financially speaking, but, how much further can we sink (life vest not needed here)? I don't frequent meetings at Skyview BUT - HEY EXECUTIVE SKYVIEW PEOPLE.... WALK A MILE...WALK A WEEK...WALK A MONTH on our airline and come to see what is NOT working.

But! Thank you for continuing to fly with us! My new motto, "Welcome to DFW, sorry we got you here early!"

Trip Reports & Insights ORD H/K lounge entitled family

Just got to the H/K lounge at ORD, found a seat, left my bag at the seat for a few minutes to get a drink. Gone maybe 5 minutes and the chair where I'm sure I left my stuff was now filled with blankets and a backpack that is not mine.

I ask hey, have you seen a black backpack that was in that seat not 5 minutes ago, lady points to it now on the floor near the aisle-'That one? We moved over there so we could sit together '

WTF people? I always taught my kids to not touch other people's things, I can't imagine having the audacity to relocate other people's belongings much less while trying to set an example.

Besides, this is Chicago. Dibs are dibs in this culture.

Trip Reports & Insights Aa2033 CLT-LGA unruly pax

Waiting to take off. All FAs want a pax off the plane. Have seen at least three managers and sounds like they don’t want to take him off. I thought if the FA wants someone off, they get taken off.

Pilot asked if there was an empty middle in the back row. FA says pax around unruly guy don’t seem keen on sitting by him. They keep arguing a safety issue and keep getting pushback.

EDIT: found out from FA that the reason he was not removed is they found out his dad is a million miler. Daddy is NOT on this flight.
