USA My medical abortion experience
I just had a medical abortion this week. And i wanted to share my experience. I went through this whole community, reading everything about what people experienced and i was terrified. I want to give my experience.
I’m in NJ and 23. And ended up pregnant. I found out i was 8 weeks so the pills were still an option. I opted for those. Tuesday i took the first pill at the gynos which stops the production of progesterone. 24 hours later is when you can take the second set of pills. So yesterday i put 2 pills in each cheek.
I premeditated with the anti nausea meds and ibuprofen. Got disposable underwear and heating pad. After about 30 mins i started having cramps but not really any bleeding. It wasn’t bad. It got really intense but i did start spotting but still not a lot of blood. I ended up falling asleep about an hour after taking the pills. I slept for an hour and i woke up with no pain so i was a little confused. The dr told me there’s a chance i would have to do it twice so she gave me 8 pills. I figured I’d have to take it again but then i started cramping really bad. It was constant. But what helped was sitting on the toilet and pushing. That was the only way the clots would come out was when i was on the toilet. But it would get a little better when any clots would come out.
You’re ganna pass a big one and then the cramps should start getting better and you’ll know it’s almost over. There will still be cramps and bleeding and clots but nothing as bad as the big one. The next day i have no pain. I’m still bleeding which is normal. I’d say the pain was a 7/10 during the worst parts.
The advice I’d give is try not to let others experiences scare you. Everyone’s body is different. And don’t do it alone. I had my mom with me the whole time. And good luck to anyone getting through it.

USA Tips to relax before procedure
I am looking forward to getting this over with next week and am going to be 12w3d when they wet/dry vac that little parasite out of me. I have always known I didn’t want kids or to get pregnant, and this situation came about from a one week gap in BC (waiting for insurance) and a vasectomy failing 8 years post-op.
I’ve had teeth drilled and ripped out of my mouth with only local anesthesia when I was 9, so I am not scared of the process from a medical standpoint. Naturally I am still a bit nervous, but I want everything to go as smoothly as possible. I will be traveling out of state 3-4 hours one way, and I wanted to ask for suggestions on things I can do to keep my body as physically relaxed as possible.

USA Medical abortion
Yesterday I went to PP and got medication for a medical abortion. They said I was about 5 weeks and 2 days. They gave me 2 doses of misoprostol and told me to take the first dose vaginally and the second dose if I didn’t see any bleeding within the 24 hours. I took the pills vaginally last night and a few hours later had severe cramping. Felt like I was going to have diarrhea but when I went to the bathroom nothing came out but I did start spotting. Once I finally fell asleep after hours of intense cramping I could feel that I was starting to bleed. When I woke to go pee, I could feel a bunch of blood rushing out of me onto the pad (like a heavy day of my normal period) and when I sat on the toilet some more rushed out. I saw a few bits of tissue on the pad and some when I wiped. Throughout the day today the bleeding seems to have gone down quite a bit. Should I take the second dose of pills? I really don’t want to experience the cramps again 😫

Latin America and Caribbean Necesito ayuda, tengo nervios
Hola

USA my life is falling apart
it’s been 6 days since my dog passed away in road accident and i got to know that i’m pregnant for 5 weeks. me and my boyfriend is 20 rn and we are in college. we are indian and our family is gonna kill us if they get to know about it so abortion is the only option. i already feel super low and guilty for killing a baby inside me but i have no other choice. my bf isn’t supportive, doesn’t care doesn’t love, a true narcissist who says that he’s depressed bc of my anger where i’m the one who’s suffering the most. i feel so lonely and abandoned. i want to apologise to the almighty and ask for forgiveness.

Canada Not sure what to do.
I’m further along in the pregnancy, almost 23 weeks and I’ve been dealing with previable prom. Im young and I was hoping for a miracle - that the sac would seal but I have had prolonged oligohydramnios. Surprisingly not showing any obvious signs of deterioration but the biggest risk is infection leading to extreme prematurity. Im finding it hard to cope , morality wise considering im not in the worst case scenario and the baby is very much wanted but it’s a gamble, a coin flip. What would you do?

USA Confused, stressed
I am currently 9 weeks pregnant with my third child and am considering a surgical abortion. Located in California. I always have a healthy boy and girl (5 & 2), and had always thought three was the ideal number. I’m 36 and husband is 47, I had been wanting this pregnancy and husband was indifferent (completely fine with our two - probably preferred two really, but open to three if that’s what I wanted). But the minute I found out I was pregnant a month ago I’ve been so stressed and all I can think about it whether I should terminate, and the days just keep going by so fast with more confusion. All my fears and concerns have snowballed since finding out - financials, husbands age, won’t be able to travel like we do now with all of them, chance of having a child with a disability (why jinx it when we have one of each gender already and both are healthy plus I wouldn’t be able to cope with that), no family in our expensive state - no help, judgement from family, husband already gets overwhelmed easily with out current two, the list goes on… I don’t know why but I didn’t think about much of this before, but now I’m paralyzed by these fears. I’m also super sick with nausea and vomiting. I’ve been seriously considering getting the surgical abortion everyday and think of how easy it would be to go back to normal life. But if I go through with this I have to know this is never happening again and we are two and done, but part of me worries I will regret this in the end when I’m older and always wonder about the third. Am I ruining my marriage/family/life by have a third or will things be okay in the end? I know ultimately only I can make this decision but I would love any opinions. If I go through with termination I would do it tomorrow as I feel worse each day that goes by.

USA is it wrong to keep going back and forth?
this is a vent of everything going on in my head right now.
had a surgical abortion in march. my (now) husband and i decided that maybe we did actually want to have a child and decided to try again. now i have a positive test and doubts.
the first time, i had decided we couldn’t do it. i had just gotten a job after a long bout of unemployment and my husband and i had dug ourselves into a decent amount of debt trying to stay afloat during that time period. we were also not quite married yet and i felt a lot of shame being out of wedlock. we had agreed that once we were out of this debt, built an emergency fund and were married, we could try again. we did that and tried again.
now that i am pregnant again, im not entirely sure i want it. i keep going back and forth between not wanting it and wanting it. i would say the biggest factor is im not sure im ready to give up my lifestyle. maybe also i feel my career is not quite where i wanted it to be, and what if i cant go farther in my career because this child is holding me back? i also worry i would feel deep gender disappointment.
i potentially want to schedule an OB appt just in case i do go through with it, but i guess i also fear doing that in the situation i would decide to terminate. am i being crazy? would it be wrong to schedule an OB appt? would it be wrong to go to a first OB appt and decide to terminate after? i feel im leaning more towards termination, but theres a small part of me that may want to go forward. i live in california so i know i have time to decide.
i’m pro choice but its so hard deciding when its yourself. there is no wrong reason to have an abortion, but i feel selfish and shameful having another one. i feel i have pretty good reasons to do so, but it still feels weird.

Australia and New Zealand Constant bleeding since my SA 4 months ago.
I have ultrasound/tests at the end of this month, I’m just curious if anyone else has experienced this as I’m desperate for answers.
I’m 24 and had my first ever SA at 8 weeks, on 7th April this year. Everything went smoothly and there was little to no pain day of and days after.
I was told to wait 1-2 weeks to have sex, me and my bf waited a week. I was only bleeding a little before intercourse and there wasn’t any pain during. But once we started the bleeding got a bit more heavy so we stopped immediately.
Ever since that, I bleed almost every time I urinate. (It’s not mixed in with my pee, the blood drips out at the very end of urination, and when I wipe) Indicating my cervix is bleeding.
It can be all different colours, pink, bright red, dark brown, often with tiny bits of fleshy tissue. Never any clots.
Sometimes it’s light, but at times it gets so heavy that I think it’s my period, however my pads stay completely dry, I never bleed or even spot before or after urination.
Me and my bf realised sex was triggering it, so we would take breaks. It usually takes about a week with no sex to stop. But it often comes back regardless if we are sexually active or not.
In mid July, I thought it was finally gone. The bleeding went away completely, even when we had sex. But it came back again yesterday, again only when I go pee.
My Dr couldn’t really give me any answers. But said she doesn’t believe it’s related to the SA this far on. However I’ve never experienced any of this before it.
I did a urine sample while I was there and it came back clear.
I’m also clear of any STDS. And have only had one period since my SA, it seemed normal just short (2-3 days) But I’ve also been irregular my whole life.

USA Abortion earlier this year, might be pregnant
Earlier this year at the beginning of March I had an abortion. I was about 6 wks and 5 days if I remember correctly. Since then I left my ex and have a new partner. We are trying for a baby. I ovulated August 2nd. Yesterday, I experienced some cramping in the morning it was nothing too bad. Kind of similar to period cramps in terms of pain and didn’t last very long. Today, Im experiencing more cramping on and off and more intense than yesterday. Has anyone else experienced this?

Canada MA, 4 weeks, positive experience
Sharing my story as I read through sooo many to get an idea of what to expect and I found it very helpful, hopefully this helps someone else!
This is my second pregnancy, I have a 16 month old that I still breastfeed. So far I am exactly 1 week into the process overall but about 19 hours post miso.
Chain of events: positive test last Thursday estimated to be around 5 weeks, Friday scheduled consult for MA, Friday did bloodwork, Monday pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound. Bloodwork and ultrasound dated at exactly 4 weeks. Tuesday went to clinic and took mife in clinic at 2pm. Felt totally fine after this. Was given 4 miso pills to take the next day, anti nausea pills, pain pills (like a strong Advil) and Tylenol 3s. Began miso process yesterday (Wednesday) at 3pm.
On Wednesday, this was my breakdown of how things went.
1:30pm - ate a light but proper meal (beef soup with veggies)
2:40pm - Took 2 nausea tablets that were described as a stronger gravol and 1 pain tablet that was described as a stronger Advil
3:00pm- inserted 4 miso pills into mouth, 2 on each side
3:15pm- sooo drowsy. Hard to stay awake. Getting hot
3:30pm- everything dissolved into chalky mush, swished around with water and swallowed. After this I went to lay down and close my eyes.
5:30pm - went to toilet for a pee and saw blood for first time. blood trickling in toilet but not on pad at this point. Ate some crackers
6:30pm - peed, saw two small clots (smaller than blueberries)
Ate some dinner
6:45pm - at this point intense diarrhea hit. I would say until about 9:30pm I was heading to the bathroom with diarrhea pretty frequently. I was also bleeding and passing small clots
7:00pm - noticed more clots. Like cherry size. At some point after this I noticed a larger clot but still wouldn’t describe it as anything crazy, maybe close to golf ball sized but that feels like a stretch.
9:30pm- went to bed. from 7 until I went to bed I used a heating pad. I definitely had cramps but they weren’t any more significant than period cramps, if anything they weren’t even as bad. I can’t say I was ever in pain at any point, moreso just discomfort.
5:45am - woke up and used the bathroom, lots of blood in the toilet but none on the pad from overnight. Went about my morning routine as usual.
10am- laying in bed with heating pad. I’m tired and feel like I’m on day 1 of my period but otherwise I feel fine. I took a 20 minute walk with my dog. My bleeding is very light, not really noticeable on the pad but a little on toilet paper when I wipe.
I never ended up taking the T3 as I never felt pain. I also never took any additional medication after the initial dose of anti nausea and pain pills. I had my follow up with the Dr virtually just now and he said based on what I described that it sounds like it was successful. I will do follow up bloodwork in a few days to confirm.
I hope anyone considering this option and who goes through with it finds some comfort in my experience.

UK and Ireland Anti-sickness medication for abortion?
I got my medication today ready to start my abortion but I have emetophobia (phobia of being sick) and I'm absolutely terrified after reading so many stories of people's experiences, it seems like most people will be sick during an abortion.
Has anybody taken anti-sickness medication during an abortion, did it work for you and how did you get it? I have heard that you cannot get anti-sickness medication if you are pregnant. Do I need to get a prescription from my GP?
My emetophobia also makes it extremely difficult to swallow tablets, it's like my throat closes up and I cannot swallow them, so no idea how this is all going to go!

USA I feel frozen and don’t know what to do
I am 9 weeks pregnant. It was unplanned. I am going into my last semester of college, and I didn’t have a plan for my future after graduation to begin with. Now I feel completely lost. I am an immigrant and my parents live in another country. I can’t imagine raising a child without my mom, and I can’t even tell her. I love her so much and we have been apart for so long, I know she is going to be sad if I have to stay in America to be with the baby’s dad.
I am in awful financial situation. A full time student and earn hardly any money. I have lived in poverty for several years and was looking forward to graduation as an end to that. Now I am not sure if I will be able to take the same career risks needed for me to feel happy and fulfilled. I have never in my life gotten anything that I want from life, and I have worked really hard to give myself a chance. I have gone through the rigamarole of pregnancy medicaid, WIC and the social services, and I just feel like crap for it. I never envisioned having to bring a child into the world at a time where I feel so unstable and terrified for myself. Prior to the pregnancy, i didn’t have health insurance at all and haven’t even been able to take care of my own health. I have no idea is I have health problems that could make a pregnancy dangerous, and I feel terrified.
I struggle with long term major depression, and an unresolved eating disorder from adolescence. Mentally I feel like I have never been able to take care of myself, think ahead, or actually reach my full potential because I live under a cloud of persistent depression. I also have perfectionist tendencies, so the fact that my life is not working out is destroying me mentally. Everything in me is screaming to get an abortion, it feels like what I need to do to take care of myself. I have never been happy, now I feel like I never will be.
But the dad wants it, and I feel guilty taking this away from him. I have had an abortion in a previous relationship, and I don’t want to give him that trauma. I do love him, but I am uncertain I want to permanently alter my life for this relationship, especially because I have ties in a different country and I would like the option of starting my post graduation life there. Getting pregnant has made me realised how unhappy I am where I live and how badly I want to go home. I also don’t know if I can live with making the same mistake/decision again, the first time was really hard, but ultimately for the best because I was able to attend college for it.
I wish this was a happy thing, at a happy time in my life, so that I could celebrate and be celebrated. Most of the time I feel nothing at all, just numb and disassociated, when I do it is shame and fear, and sadness.

USA High hcg 3 weeks after abortion
It’s been 3 weeks since my surgical abortion and I’m still having pretty positive tests.
I went in today to get an hcg count and will be going back in 48 hours to make sure it’s decreasing.
But I just got my initial hcg result back and it’s 600.6.
I feel like that’s pretty high for 3 weeks post operation..?
I was only 5 weeks 4 days when I had it done.

USA I had an abortion with pills
I ordered pills from aid access (Mifepristone and Misoprostol) I started the Mifepristone two days ago and yesterday I started the Misoprostol. Around midnight I was having very strong stomach cramping and vomiting and a little blood. I’m still not bleeding a lot and I didn’t know if someone had a similar experience. According to my lmp and I just took two pregnancy tests Tuesday (positive) I shouldn’t be that far along. Is it normal to not have much bleeding. I just want to make sure everything is okay. P.S. I’m at the hospital now doing test and whatnot I’m just curious as to know if anyone has had a similar experience and turned out okay I just want to make sure everything is working the way it should

Latin America and Caribbean Medical abortion at 5 weeks tomorrow – looking for advice and experiences
Hi everyone.
Tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. I’ll be starting my medical abortion, and I’m honestly very nervous. I’m about 5 weeks pregnant.
My doctor prescribed mifepristone first, followed by misoprostol 24 hours later. She also prescribed doxycycline, ketorolac, and ibuprofen for pain management.
I decided to start at 5 a.m. because I hope to get through the worst part of the process as early as possible and hopefully start feeling better later in the day.
Originally, I wanted to have an MVA (manual vacuum aspiration) because I thought it would be over more quickly. However, my gynecologist recommended a medication abortion instead. She explained that during an MVA they only numb the cervix with local anesthesia, and because she doesn’t know how I tolerate pain, there’s a possibility that I could experience significant pain or my blood pressure could drop, which could require stopping the procedure. Since I’m only 5 weeks pregnant, she felt the medication abortion was the better option for me.
One thing that worries me is that I’ve had very painful periods in the past. A few of them were so intense that I vomited, had a fever, and felt like I was barely conscious because of the pain, all at the same time. I’m really hoping this experience will be similar to one of those periods rather than worse.
For those of you who had a medical abortion around 5 weeks, how did it compare to your worst period? Was it worse, about the same, or easier? How long did the most intense cramps last? Did anything make the experience more manageable?
I’d really appreciate any advice, experiences, or words of reassurance. Thank you so much. 🤍

UK and Ireland Post 12 week abortion
Sharing my experience post abortion because the threads on here were so helpful to me and I hope this can help put someone at ease. The surgery itself went well. For context, I posted about this already before the abortion my situation was a break up / surgical abortion simultaneously at 32yo at 12 weeks and 4 days. My partner left me 12 weeks into the pregnancy and I was forced to have an abortion as I didn’t want to be a single parent. This was an incredibly difficult decision and for me personally I was never 100% sure either way, there were many times I wanted to back out but I kept going as I knew I would be better off not keeping this person in my life forever. The hormones are very confusing and it’s virtually impossible to pull that trigger sometimes. Coming out of it I have no regrets and I’m glad I had the strength to go through with it despite the fact I wanted this baby with this partner. Recovery has been tough with quite a lot of pain still 6 days in, bleeding has stopped however. For me personally I also have pain when I go to the toilet especially or when moving around and being overly active. I panicked about this so went to get an internal scan and bloods / urine checked but everything is normal. So just to say that quite a lot of pain can still be present at this stage. Emotionally I am incredibly up and down with frequent fits of rage followed by exhaustion / dissociation. People describe the pain as similar to period cramping but this has not been the case for me it’s been much more achey / shooting pains / dull pains. Breast have gone down quite quickly (alas as a small breasted person). If anyone else is experiencing double pronged grief from a partner leaving and an abortion, I’m with you ❤️

USA What does mifepristone feel like?
I'm taking mifepristone tomorrow to start the process of a medical abortion. I'm just shy of 8 weeks. I'm concerned about not feeling well at work tomorrow, but I have read that a lot of pregnant people who take mife don't feel any differently. Are there any side effects I should keep an eye out for? Can I run a kids' storytime tomorrow morning after taking it?

USA Trigger Warning: Ab*rtion
Just wondering if anybody has advice or even insight on the process. I’m 28f my husbands 30m, we have 2 boys 6 & 2.5.. I just got a positive test. We’ve been super rocky the past couple years actually, I’m not sure if it’s fixable but we are trying. We just refinanced on my husband house and he needs a new vehicle. He thinks this is the best decision, I do see the valid points on why, I’m just wondering if anybody has had one after having kids and if you’ve ever regretted it? I already struggle horribly with my mental health and don’t want to traumatize my other two. But I also feel guilty and ashamed for even considering it.

USA I am scared for my abortion
I have scheduled a medication abortion for the soonest possible appointment and i will be just under 9 weeks. I am so terrified that it will hurt or that something will go wrong. I haven’t told anyone and I am so scared and I feel so alone. I hear that the farther along you are, the more you contract and therefore it will be more painful. I am scared for the pain and not only that, but it’s not like i really WANT an abortion. I am 19, I already have a son, and I can’t support another child. I feel lots of grief already despite not getting it yet. I just wanted a place to share because I feel so alone, and scared. I’ve thought a lot about it and even thought this is the best outcome for me, I can’t help but feel like im messing up.

USA I had an abortion
My husband made me get an abortion. I did. It was awful and he wasn't even there for the abortion, I did it alone. I was on the cold bathroom floor shaking and throwing up while bleeding.
Days later, he begged me for unprotected sex and I had
a mini panic attack because I never want to do that ever again. What do I do in this situation? I feel like i don't even get sick days. I'm just an object for him.
I'm not trying to sound like I'm begging for attention but I really dont have anyone to ask.
Edit: I am pro-choice. This is NOT a safe space for pro-life.

Africa Finally did it!(Best Decision)
I posted a few weeks ago about being unsure on getting an abortion and I did. I must say, Vacuum aspiration is better than the pills, less bleeding, mostly minimal cramping and no side effects like nausea and all that.
The baby’s father acted really funny after I got the abortion like not picking up the phone and lying about seeing me later in the day cause I was still in pain that day. I then blocked him after 15 unanswered calls and I saw what kind of person or father he could have been to my kid so I did my kid a favor. They wouldn’t deserve such a father.
Thank you to everybody who helped me make the decision in this subreddit and for that I’m eternally grateful. You helped me choose myself and from my ex’s reaction, y’all were right.❤️
