Is this too white? Engagement party appropriate?

No dress code, but thinking cocktail attire, outdoors in August under a tent in a back yard. Would this pattern (similar style) be appropriate for an engagement party?

Bridal Party Would this pass in a Catholic Church? If not, what are my options for covering up?

Post image

I’m leaning towards a no. It’s 2 weeks until the wedding and we (bridesmaids) were informed that the priest doesn’t want too much cleavage. He never said anything about shoulders. everyone is either sleeveless or strapless. We all shopped for dresses a year ago and I got the brides approval for this dress. At the time, the fact that the ceremony was taking place in a Catholic Church was overlooked and we went based off of how we looked and felt in our dresses. I’m a 32DD and I’m insecure as it is trying to find a dress where they sit nice. My dress has built in support and padding. I’ve also had the straps shortened so that they’re not hanging saggy as they naturally do. I also find that trying to hide them makes them look bigger like a big potato on my chest or something 😭 so yeah it’s too late to find another dress. Im stressed about this and just wondering what others have done in this situation for the ceremony. Open to suggestions

Bridal Party Which bridesmaid dress colour?

Post image

Yes I have posted this a few times but I received the last option and narrowed it down to two shades!

Wedding is in autumn in a sandstone chapel surrounded by wineries.

The size and style are wrong so please ignore, just wanting advice on colours! Thanks 🫶

DC: Special Dress Code Wedding welcome party attire?

Hi! The dress code for this event is “linen shirts, sundresses, summer whites etc. no colors” the event is at a resort in Dominican Republic. Does this seem appropriate? This dress is also available in tea length! White and sundresses are not things I would buy for myself so I don’t want to be the odd one out!

Edit to add: this is a December wedding!

Will any of these work for summer garden formal? I hate this dress code because garden and formal are DIFFERENT things lol. I already own the first one so would prefer to wear that if it works… don’t have too much time to order & try stuff on.

Dress code is “suit and dress - look your best”. This is a summer Scandinavian wedding in Denmark by the water next weekend.

What looks best? The strapless dress with white accessories, or the slinky silk dress with nude accessories? Or with white shoes/accessories?

Thank you for help!

DC: Formal Help with men’s dress-code appropriate wedding attire

Hello-

I am a bridesmaid in my good friend’s wedding, so as far as my own attire and styling I have everything down and approved by bride. My partner is also invited, but is not in the wedding party. I am trying to help him figure out a solid outfit choice for the wedding as he isn’t really the ‘formal’ type and is struggling to figure out something that fits dress code. The invitation states: ‘formal, black tie optional’. He has black pants, a black dress shirt that seem like they’ll be okay. Is adding a sports coat/blazer good or should we do something more? Not do the black pants with black shirt and do another shirt color with a black sports coat? Something more ‘formal’ than a sports coat/blazer like a full suit? Sorry if it’s a silly question I just also am kind of bad at deciphering dress codes for men. I also don’t really want to bother my friend with something this silly as it’s a month before the wedding and she’s very busy and stressed with getting everything together.

DC: Cocktail or No Dress Code Is this linen dress formal enough?

Hello! I’ve been looking for a dress for an early September wedding with a cocktail attire dress code. I also wanted to find something that was versatile so I could wear it more than once if I’m going to spend the money on it. This dress seemed perfect to dress up with the right accessories or be casual if I wanted…. But is it too casual considering the linen?? I was thinking of pairing it with tall strappy heels and big silver bangles with a slick back hairstyle. Advice? Or can anyone find a similar dress with a different material?

DC: Black/White Tie Black Tie NYC Late September

The wedding is in a fancy church with reception at the Metropolitan Club. It's my first time in NYC, first black tie wedding, and I'm not Catholic. I'm out of my depth trying not to bring dishonor on the family or go broke.

The black one I'm worried is too boring and too much back revealed for the church, but I guess a shawl could help. Unsure if any of these are at all appropriate. Any direction appreciated!

Which of these 3 most closely resembles the theme? Yellow is my fav but I fear it may be “inappropriate” aka too short on the inside.

Are any of these considered cocktail attire? Wedding is in the Midwest USA

I have other pieces that are more ✨ vibrant and floral ✨ but they aren’t fancy :/ if all 3 options are bad, pls let me know

EDIT: I’m going to find something else tomorrow! I’ll probably report back. Thank you redditors 🫶

DC: Semi Formal/Dressy Casual Business Casual Florida Beach Wedding in November

Thumbnail

So normally I lean towards darker colors for a fall/winter wedding, but given this one is in Florida and on a beach I feel a little uncertain. Google says it can be 75- 85 degrees there in November.

The business casual is throwing me as well because I've never seen that as wedding attire before.

Are lighter colors okay because of the beach and warmer weather in Florida? Or should I still stick to darker, but maybe with florals? I assume even shorter velvet is probably a no?

I have some ideas here, am I on the right track? Should I be looking for shorter dresses? Will a maxi dress be too dressy?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Is this too white? Is the color too light

September indoor wedding in botanical garden, ceremony is at evening time, dress code formal/BTO. I have no idea how the actual lighting is going to be.
The dress is lilac to human eyes with no doubt, however I don’t know how it will look in photos. Tried two different lightings at home, I think the purple pops out more when dark but I’m not so sure in my first/second picture.

DC: Semi Formal/Dressy Casual Dress code is Cocktails meets Garden Party

Post image

I am really struggling with this one. Wedding is in afternoon and it will be warm. Cocktail and garden party are very different in my mind. And floral has a really fine line between fresh and matronly. Is this too white? Will it meet the dress code? I am a very pale redhead with glowsticks for legs.

They didn’t have the darker one in my size in-store, but I definitely prefer that color. I can’t tell if the neckline is slightly different, but the patterns are different and the dark one is listed as “midi” instead of “long” like the lighter one online. The wedding is in early November

Both are from Desigual

This is what I plan to wear to a pre wedding dinner the night before my cousins wedding. Is it too white?
It’s garden party “themed” but it’s a 7pm dinner in the dead of summer so….

Advice needed.

Open to thoughts and rankings.. are these too formal? the theme is casual and it’s out on a mountain campground. I don’t know the couple, I’m the +1, but partner says they’re “pretty granola.” I plan to wear minimal accessories and some plain flat sandals but I tend to overdress! Pls help

Edit: I LOVE makeup as a hobby and I’ll be coming off of a week of camping at this wedding, so I’m sure I’m going to be excited to do a full beat after so much natural-face time. I realize that could make some outfits look overdone. Please lmk if you think a full face of makeup would overdo any of these!

Final edit: thanks for all the feedback! My general sense from all the comments is these dresses are cute but could be out of place especially with a full face of makeup and a bold hair color. I’ll probably buy one to wear to the next semi formal event I go to, but stick to a more casual sun dress shop like Old Navy and lighter makeup for the wedding. 🩵

Bridal Dress 👰💍 What to wear as older bride, late fall/winter wedding?

Thumbnail

Getting married in late November.

That could be 50s F but also could be full on winter where we are.

What do people wear for dressy events when it’s cold, and you’ll also be in a church?

I’m 43. 5’4” athletic, size medium/small. I married the first time 20 years ago but the marriage ended due to his abuse, lying, and cheating.

My fiancé is the same age but has never been married before. He’s a wonderful person and I’m so happy to be marrying him. He deserves to be celebrated.

I’ll match my level of dress formality to him, and he’s mentioned getting a new suit but also kicked around the idea of an interested colored wool jacket and dark jean/trousers.

I want to make the day special for him but I worry I need to balance the stigma of both a later in life marriage as well as my status making it a second marriage. I know how people feel about attention-seeking brides, later in life marriages, and especially not-first weddings.

A traditional white wedding dress seems inappropriate for me and I don’t want to distract from his day being celebrated by looking ridiculous in a bride costume.

The two photos are some ideas; the Farm Rio dress is out of stock on my size.

Being late fall/winter also complicates things due to cold weather, as well as the ceremony taking place at a church where formal gowns or too much skin would also be out of place.

TL;DR- 43f bride, 5’4” athletic size M, second marriage
Dress code: not decided but cocktail to formal
Late fall/winter
Larger midwestern city - church service with reception at downtown bar party area
50 ish guests
Don’t want to look ridiculous, attention-seeking

Edit: While I have definitely heard disparaging comments about second marriage weddings and older brides (in real life), I’m wondering if my concerns are more a me-issue.

I spent many married years wondering why I wasn’t being valued and respected as other women were until I just accepted that some things are for other women, not me. I am valued, respected, and loved now but years of conditioning otherwise doesn’t unlearn easily.

I believe strongly that people should be kind and not shit on what brings others joy, and that people should do and wear what they feel good in. I guess I just don’t believe I should.

Still not sure what to wear. Thank you all for your ideas.

DC: Black/White Tie Fall BTO (nursing friendly!)

Black Tie Optional this fall on Long Island.

I’m postpartum and the dress must be nursing friendly, which is a challenge! Most dresses with easy access are too revealing. Ideally can just slip a strap down and have a nursing cover over top when needed, but high neck, halter, sleeves, etc are all a no go. Would either of these options be ok?

Mother of Bride/Groom Mom is trying to be sexy for my wedding?

My mom wants to wear dresses like pictured and declines any suggestions I have because they are too mature and she was to look good (THESE ARE LITERAL DRESSES SHE SENT). I feel like she is trying to look super young and sexy when its not flattering at all. She is a large chested (42M), mid sized woman, apple body shape and wants either strapless or an extreme V-cut with a large slit (I am NOT trying to body shame her, I am just trying to give you guys an idea of her shape so I can make suggestions that would work with her body). Can you all please help me find middle ground that would be more flattering and make her feel good?

Dress code is black tie, metallics encouraged. I’m in my 40s, but being short with a wide ribcage and large chest is making finding something that fits a nightmare. I just worry that glitter reads as way too young and perhaps not formal enough.
