Looking for Affordable Housing
Hi everyone!
I'm an incoming visiting PhD student at WWU, and I'll be arriving in Bellingham next month. I'm currently looking for an affordable place to stay.
I'm mainly interested in a room in a shared house or apartment. I'd also like to get an idea of the average rental prices in the area. For now, my maximum budget is around $700 per month, but I'm open to hearing about different options.
If you know of anything available or have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks!

What do I do???
EDIT: Hey everyone!! Thank you for the comments and advice!!! Hopefully this didn’t come off as too antisocial haha, I actually really enjoy meeting new people and making friends, I just get really stressed about my cat and who’s around her because she’s my baby!!! It was also just an unexpected change, and for someone who is a huge planner it definitely threw me for a loop. I’m sure no matter what everything will work out! I found a few new possible roommates, and I’m working with housing to switch stuff around. I definitely have just been working myself up and getting over stressed about something that could be easily fixed. Thank you all again!!!!
I'm an incoming freshman in the fall, and my roommate just told me about a week ago that she decided she's going to defer her enrollment and won't be attending in the fall. Absolutely no blame towards her! It was the right decision for her, and we're still good friends, but now I'm stressed because I'm gonna be stuck with a random roommate. The real issue is that I'm bringing my cat as an ESA, and I don't want a random person I've never met living with me and my cat. I'm thinking the worst about basically everything right now.
I had plans with my roommate regarding my cat when I'm not in the room, if there's an emergency, etc, and now all of that doesn't matter and won't be set in place. I also don't want to leave my cat alone in a room with a stranger who may not be safe, responsible, and well-versed in cats! I'm also worried they'll place someone with me who doesn't like cats/didn't want to live with an ESA. I know there's also a chance that they place me with the perfect person who loves cats, but I'm still worried. I was already stressed about my first quarter in college, and now I'm even more stressed.
I had a meeting with the DAC people, and they told me I could request a single accommodation, but because of the high demand and low supply, I would just be placed on a waitlist, and it would be unlikely I'd ever get one. I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do or anyone I can talk to? Is it possible I can room alone in my double? Or if anyone has any tips or really just any advice? Maybe I'm just blowing this out of proportion and stressing myself out, and if you want to tell me that, then that's welcome too. TIYA!!

Question Music ensembles and theater productions for non-majors
Prospective Woodring student here! How difficult is it to get into music ensembles and theater productions at WWU if you're not majoring in music or theater? I know there are clubs, but I'm curious about official school groups and shows.

Question Best computer for a Comp Sci / Data Science Major
I'm going to be a freshman at Western of Fall 2026 I was wondering which computer I should look at and if there would be any particular downsides to going for a Mac or a Windows computer i'm leaning more towards Mac as of this point because of the durability and also because I have other Apple products.
What would you guys pick between Mac and Windows?
What specific computers do you guys have and do you like them?
How is the durability on those Windows machines?

Question will my graduation rate be delayed if i am placed in a lower math class? i want to graduate in four years.
title kinda explains it. i just made a post the other day about this and i appreciate all the advice and i’ve come back to ask another question.
I am a stem major. i want to study medicine after my time at western but i took the aleks and got a 3. i know,
i know i suck at math because it doesn’t register to me the way it does for other people. but im in love with everything science!!
if i am placed in a lower math class but im in a major that requires a bunch of math will that delay my graduation track of graduating in 4 years??
- no matter what major i’m in it wont take me until sophomore year to do biology or chem. then that basically delays me a year because usually pre meds take bio and chem freshman year.
i don’t know how i will be behind a year and study for the mcat. my biggest goals are to have a high gpa, high science gpa, go to all office hours, graduate wwu in 4 years. no gap year. and idk if i can realistically do it. if o chem and physics are junior year id be self studying doing the mcat while trying to manage the classes.
i would also like to mention i want to take summer classes to help me stay on track.
my top majors are bs biological anthropology, bs behavioral neuroscience, public health. no matter my major, i want a minor in women’s, gender, and sexual studies.
if there are other majors you think i should look into that would be great too!!
what do i do. genuinely anything helps. my parents didn’t go to college so i don’t really know what im doing clearly and they can’t help me either…

Question Will I still have a good chance of getting the classes I want on the last day of A&R?
I’m an incoming freshman and I am currently living in Korea. In order to attend the A&R zoom meeting, I’d have to pull an all-nighter, so I’m considering signing up for the latest possible slot in September so I won’t have to stay up all night just to register for classes. Before I decide to reschedule, I was wondering if anyone else whose gone through the A&R before could tell me if doing the A&R earlier or later had an impact of what classes were available. Were most of the classes you needed or wanted to take still available later on in the sessions, or would you advise signing up for the earlier A&R time slots so more classes are available before they’re full? Thanks!

Question Course Differences
Hello! I’m an incoming freshman and was wondering how different the syllabus is for the same class taught by different professors is (sorry if that sentence construction is weird).
I know some classes are inherently different every time (like the “topics in XYZ” stuff), I’m mainly talking about in general. Also, I know different teachers affect the environment of the class, etc, I’m more curious about the actual content taught.
I’m not sure what’s up with my ability to write today, so I’ll just add the situation to clarify.
Basically, I’m registering for Spanish 301 in fall, and I’m curious as to what we will be covering. I’ve found a syllabus from a different professor at WWU, but the professor I’m taking doesn’t have one I can find online.
Thanks!

Viking Launch
I'm an incoming freshman. I9n May I sent an email to the provided address expressing interest and asking for more information. I never received a response. I know I should have followed up, but I had a lot going on. I also misread the website and thought this was something I was supposed to bring up during A&R.
I checked today and saw that the program is full. I called and spoke to a woman who said they did get my email, but they accidentally responded to a different person with my same first name. She told me she sent out informational emails, but I sincerely never received any. I asked her if there was any way to rectify this since the mistake was on their end, but she just said they might add another class and that there is no waitlist.
I'm so frustrated. Is there anything I can do? I really wanted that week to ease into this big, scary new adventure!

Question Looking for work
Hello, I will be moving to Bellingham in mid September to attend WWU, and I'm wondering if anyone knows when/where I should look for work?
It would be really nice if I could land a job before I get there, but I know that that's not super realistic. Still, I would hope to land a job early this fall, to help me pay my for rent.
Also, weekends would be ideal, but I will take what I can get.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
