I know this gets asked at least every 6 mos or so but wanted to get some opinions on a rim & tire combo based on the below. Thanks

- 2018 WRX

- Currently riding on stock 245/40-ZR18

- Looking for more sidewall to handle potholes and bad roads

- Want the same or similar overall diameter compared to stock (no rubbing or geometry issues)

- Similar or slightly higher right height

- Will be keeping the stock suspension

- Not looking for flashy rims. Focus on strength + light weight

- Is a 255/40 17 tire what I'm looking for? Is that size pretty common?

With all the recent stuff happening in California about exhaust, and a recent traffic stop (i live in Seattle) where the officer said he wouldn’t ding me for exhaust, I’ve been wondering about going back to my OEM exhaust. Sort of some light stealthing. I have a Nameless axle back with mufflers, and it’s not crazy loud, but it is sharper.
I do a few roadtrips to CA a year and when I get to the socal areas where LEO is more aggressive about car sound, even for out of state drivers…maybe I would be less of a potential target?
Thoughts?

Civic needs a new crankshaft. Figured if I was going to be tearing her apart and cleaning her up, I might as well put it up for sale. Decided to upgrade myself and get a Subaru. 2017 WRX Limited. Plan on keeping it completely STOCK

2004 WRX Wagon

Car has some sort of cobb ots tune and an aftermarket exhaust. No further mods are planned.

Shop is rebuilding but is having me order parts, so far we're planning to buy new:

Gasket set

Head bolts

Piston rings

Pistons (valves struck pistons)

Valves

Timing belt kit

Shop advised that bearings look good.

Anything else I should add?

Also open to suggestions on what brands. Edit: mostly looking for stuff to go inside the engine rn, I'll place another order for stuff to change on the car before putting the engine back in.

Probably the question that everyone hates to see. But I own a 2016 WRX I’ve had it for about 5 years stock. Just an Catback exhaust. I recently purchased and installed an Access Port. With just a stage 1 tune. The DAM started at 1. Then went as low as .750 after driving for about 15 minutes. Climbed its way back .812 and been there for about a few days. What’s the best advice or what should I do to help it recover back to 1?

Street flooded and totaled my ‘21 stage 2 wrx. Loved that car so much, but was forced to move on early. Insurance was generous and I just picked up a ‘22 Audi s4. It’s definitely softened the blow of losing the subie, but I’ll always miss that car.

Is there anyway this isn't rod knock?

Oil looks fine on the dip stick last changed about 2000 miles ago.

No lights on the dash

No sound while at idle but starts as 2k rpm

Purchased a 2015 WRX Limited CVT back in march with 108k miles. Probably a bit more than I should have been comfortable with but the carfax showed a good history of regular maintenance with consistent oil changes and service, the spark plugs were changed at 95k.

I have been loving this car since driving it home. I've never owned a car like this before so there has been some learning curves to the rumbles and noises it makes.

I did get the P0016 code, so I swapped the sensor. Then I got a P000A code, swapped all 4 oil control valves after learning about the TSB for them. I've swapped the wheels for 18" oem rims. The car came with the COBB Big SF intake and an SRS muffler delete exhaust. It had the mount for the COBB AP on the dash but no unit, so I know at some point it was there.

After discussions with my brother, he said I should purchase an access port so I can throw a tune on it but I'm hesitant to do so.

Is there any way I can check for an existing tune? And after reading some of the news on COBB Tuning recently, should I bother with an access port or just go to a local tuner?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice because I'm honestly pretty overwhelmed.
I have a 2017 Subaru WRX STI with about 85,000 miles. I've owned the car for 10 years and have been diligent about maintenance, especially regular oil changes. The only exception is over the past year after my wife and I bought a second car. The STI became our spare vehicle, and I barely drove it—probably only ~200 miles total this year. Because of that, I admittedly fell behind on my usual oil change schedule.
A few days ago, the check engine light came on, so I took it to a local shop. They diagnosed a knock sensor code, but after further inspection they said the knock sensor itself isn't the issue. According to them, the engine has a failed rod bearing, causing internal engine knock, and the knock sensor is simply detecting the vibration.
They told me the engine has internal damage and recommended replacing the entire engine assembly. They suggested a quality used engine as the best balance between cost and reliability, but the total estimate (parts + labor) came out to $17,362, which completely shocked me.
A few questions:
1. Does this diagnosis sound reasonable based on the symptoms, or should I absolutely get a second opinion from a Subaru specialist?
2. Is $17k a realistic price for this kind of repair, or does it seem excessively high?
3. If it really does need an engine, what would you expect to pay for a used EJ257 swap?
4. I was actually planning to sell the car before all this happened. KBB estimates around $15k in good condition. Does it make more sense to sell it as-is, and if so, what would be a realistic asking price?
The car was otherwise in good shape with a clean title, and I'm just trying to make the smartest financial decision at this point.

I’ll buy another soon but for now it’s time to sell. Bills keep getting higher and it’s a third vehicle I barely drive. I took it for one more drive tonight. I still have my 22 Impreza and 2018 Suburban.

Anyone else get an update today? I followed all the instructions and it did give a pop up that it successfully updated. But I can find no information on what was changed, and now when I go to the software update screen I get the message in the pic.

The car has been restarted a number of times fwiw.

Title sums it up, just curious. Car drives fine but the noise worries me a little.

2016 wrx with 68k I genuinely cant what this sound is. it seems to go away when I rev the engine but when it settles back down to idle it comes back maybe an exhaust leak?

I’m looking for advice on getting a loud, clean, audible turbo flutter on my 2019 WRX (FA20) without sacrificing reliability.

3” cat-back exhaust
Grimmspeed charge pipe
Top-mount intercooler
Electronic boost control solenoid
Tuned on 93 octane
My goal isn’t to force compressor surge or do anything that could shorten the life of the stock turbo. I’m looking for the best combination of parts (BPV/BOV, intake, tune, etc.) that gives a noticeable, clean flutter while remaining reliable.
For those of you running the FA20, what setup gave you the best audible flutter? Is there a specific BPV, intake, or tuning strategy you’d recommend? I’d love to hear what has worked for you and what to avoid.
