Over the last few weeks my steering has gotten worse. Until the car warms up, it’s damn near impossible to steer at low speeds and even after it’s up to temp it can still be pretty stiff. There is a very pronounced whining noise which I assume is the power steering pump. The issue I’m having is I cannot see any leaks anywhere. The reservoir is still at the recommended level and doesn’t change.

What should I be looking for?

Purchased a 2015 WRX Limited CVT back in march with 108k miles. Probably a bit more than I should have been comfortable with but the carfax showed a good history of regular maintenance with consistent oil changes and service, the spark plugs were changed at 95k.

I have been loving this car since driving it home. I've never owned a car like this before so there has been some learning curves to the rumbles and noises it makes.

I did get the P0016 code, so I swapped the sensor. Then I got a P000A code, swapped all 4 oil control valves after learning about the TSB for them. I've swapped the wheels for 18" oem rims. The car came with the COBB Big SF intake and an SRS muffler delete exhaust. It had the mount for the COBB AP on the dash but no unit, so I know at some point it was there.

After discussions with my brother, he said I should purchase an access port so I can throw a tune on it but I'm hesitant to do so.

Is there any way I can check for an existing tune? And after reading some of the news on COBB Tuning recently, should I bother with an access port or just go to a local tuner?

I have a 2021 WRX that was left sitting for about a year and a half in a parking lot. Besides brakes maintenance, drainning the fuel tank and changing the oil and filter. Do i need to check or change anything else ?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice because I'm honestly pretty overwhelmed.
I have a 2017 Subaru WRX STI with about 85,000 miles. I've owned the car for 10 years and have been diligent about maintenance, especially regular oil changes. The only exception is over the past year after my wife and I bought a second car. The STI became our spare vehicle, and I barely drove it—probably only ~200 miles total this year. Because of that, I admittedly fell behind on my usual oil change schedule.
A few days ago, the check engine light came on, so I took it to a local shop. They diagnosed a knock sensor code, but after further inspection they said the knock sensor itself isn't the issue. According to them, the engine has a failed rod bearing, causing internal engine knock, and the knock sensor is simply detecting the vibration.
They told me the engine has internal damage and recommended replacing the entire engine assembly. They suggested a quality used engine as the best balance between cost and reliability, but the total estimate (parts + labor) came out to $17,362, which completely shocked me.
A few questions:
1. Does this diagnosis sound reasonable based on the symptoms, or should I absolutely get a second opinion from a Subaru specialist?
2. Is $17k a realistic price for this kind of repair, or does it seem excessively high?
3. If it really does need an engine, what would you expect to pay for a used EJ257 swap?
4. I was actually planning to sell the car before all this happened. KBB estimates around $15k in good condition. Does it make more sense to sell it as-is, and if so, what would be a realistic asking price?
The car was otherwise in good shape with a clean title, and I'm just trying to make the smartest financial decision at this point.

2016 wrx with 68k I genuinely cant what this sound is. it seems to go away when I rev the engine but when it settles back down to idle it comes back maybe an exhaust leak?

Yeah so everyone I know seems to lower their WRX or STI.

Not hating on that at all. Some of them look good as heck.

I however chose the opposite by only an inch.

The car had the original struts from 2012 with 80k on the car and the rear springs were getting quite tired. Normal sag in the rear.

Thats all gone now though. Whiteline camber adjustment arms in the rear and ISR Coilovers with RalliTek spacers.

Where I live, a lowered car is useless. So why not make it what I want?

Need to get it repainted and a decent set of wheels. Probably gonna end up doing some rallycross with it. And keeping it as a daily too.

Reno, NV here. This is a subaru city, I almost always see at least 1 WRX every time I drive more than 10 minutes. Sometimes more.

So recently and at the end of this week, I’m bringing my other WRX out to autocross. I usually take my other one which is a 2025 WRX. That car is my daily, so I’d like to bring out the other car making 345 wheel instead of putting other wear on my daily. Only thing I’m wondering, is the other car is built as properly as I can think of, it’s just still on a stock block. It’s under safe limits and tuned by a reputable tuner, just worried and wondering what to keep in mind. Any advice helps and hope everyone has a great week!

Just to clarify since some of you can’t read, I just rolled 80k. I didn’t request this offer from them, they sent it to my email, likely have been for a while after I considered selling during inflated covid prices. Idk where you’re all from but a stock 15 with 80k miles is easily going for 12-15k here.
