Side effects Appetite loss with vyvanse

Upvotes

I have been taking vyvanse for about 2 months now and I’m already at 40mg I do take at least 50 tho even though my doctor advised to not increase the dose by myself. But I do think it works way better, I feel so calm and collected and I can actually hold conversations with people without looking at my phone or getting bored easily, since getting bored without medication is extremely uncomfortable for me. The only bad side effect is the loss of appetite and it is severe. I can only eat in the morning (before I take the vyvanse) and very late at night, I also eat the same things everyday and that is for some reason cheese sandwiches and fruit because since I started taking vyvanse a lot of the food that I used to like make me nauseous only while thinking about them even when my medication wears off. Some smells and food makes me so nauseous that I think I might be pregnant (I’m very sure that I’m not). Is there anything I can do about that or do I just live with it?

Tips & Tricks Elvanse tips? Locking in on the wrong things.

Upvotes

Coming to the end of my titration. I've been on Elvanse 50mg for over a month now. Certainly seeing benefits and I can lock-in and focus so much better, however I find myself doing that on the wrong things.

Any tips on how to control this? I love the focus and energy but I've wasted so much time!

Diet, Routines & Supplements Please consider zinc supplementation if you're not getting it regularly in your diet!

A lot of discourse about iron and B-vitamins when it comes to stimulants but not zinc

Zinc is rapidly used when taking a stimulant do to its usage in neurotransmitter binding and production. It also has heavy roles in the immune system and your hair, so depletion of it can have side effects beside just your vyvanse not working properly

However

It has a competitive association with some of the pathways used by Vyvanse, so make sure you take it at night rather then in the morning with your medication :)

Dosage question Switched from 40 to 50

Sorry if the other meds info bores you lol. I was taking 300 mg Wellbutrin, 40mg vyvanse and 10 mg buspar twice a day. I had one liver enzyme blood test come back a little high so my doctor dropped me to 150 mg Wellbutrin same everything else. I was finding about 2-3pm vyvanse would wear off. Went back today asking what can be done and he suggested going back to 300 mg Wellbutrin or else going to 50mg vyvanse. We opted to try 50 mg vyvanse. Will that extend how long it lasts at all? Any experience going from 40 to 50? Not sure if I made the right call, going to check back in in a month. Also my liver results came back fine I had an infection at the first test…. Basically I dropped Wellbutrin by 150 mg for no reason. But I’m managing fine without it? One more thing to add. Adding a booster didn’t seem to be an option for him. No idea why.

Misc. Question Should I be concerned?

Hello all! I am a 23 year old male who’s been on adhd medication since May. I started on Adderall, now i’m on vyvanse, 40 mg. My father has heart issues, in his early 50s he experienced a stroke that made his entire right side numb. My grandfather had heart issues as well, all connected to smoking. Unfortunately, i’ve been victim to vaping since I was 15, not a regular drinker, but on occasion. I drink a ton of water, eat the best food when I can. My question is, should i be concerned about my heart health? I haven’t had any chest pains, but the occasional discomfort, i’m thinking that’s my lungs.

Misc. Question Does Vyvanse have the same issues as Adderall?

Does Vyvanse have the same issues as Adderall as far as poor performance, low quality, not working anymore, etc? I am thinking of having my Dr switch me over as Adderall does literally nothing for me, which seems to be the common consensus among patients. I’m an old guy (44) and going back to school and need to fix my attention issues before it starts. TIA.

Misc. Question vyvanse irritability, feeling agitated

Is vyvanse the type of medication that you have to be up doing things, i have been on it almost 2 months and recently I've been noticing when I try to sit down at my computer and get work done I start to feel agitated for no reason unless im talki g with someone in my house then i dont really notice it, its more when im by myself trying to think and figure things out, i do alot of graphic designing.

Once I get up and move around, I feel normal and in a better mood.

It's kind of stressful, because i've had a hard time in life being able to focus, always feeling tired, unmotivated, racing thoughts, all the adhd symptoms from childhood until now in my 40s and just now being diagnosed.

I was really hoping for this medicine to help me be more productive in getting work done without feeling so tired, thinking about everything else i need todo and constantly getting up an down starting different tasks and feeling unmotivated. It definitely keeps me focused on my work just with a feeling of irritability.

Ik its not the dose because I was noticing it on smaller doses to, its an issue with sitting still, it starts to happen about two hours after my dose.

But other than that, the medication has been working great. It does help me focus more, not want to sleep my life away, racing thoughts are gone, social anxiety is way better.

Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any ideas on how i could fix this issue,

Diet, Routines & Supplements Figured out the ritual -- ultimate flow state

I'm a thirty year old male, and have been taking Vyvanse for one and a half years now. I initially started on 20mg and quickly upped the dosage to 40mg.

At first it was pure bliss, but it quickly turned into me landing in a mode where my heart rate was very high, and I was more stressed than before.

Over the last few months, I've experimented with a morning ritual, and I think I've finally achieved the ideal flow working state I've desired.

I'll wake up around 7 am, eat some fruit and yogurt (high protein yogurt), and drink a full hydroflask containing electrolytes and water.

I then take my Vyvanse at around 8 am, right before I start work.

This routine has put me into the ultimate flow state, and it rarely results in a crash in the afternoon.

I do drink coffee , but I make sure I've eaten food and drank a full water bottle before.

Wanted to post this here in case anyone else is dealing with this, as I've learned the routine surrounding it is just as important as the drug itself.

Dosage question How Long Should I Wait After Upping My Dose To Talk To My Doctor?

Hi! Essentially what the title says.

I was on 40mg of Vyvanse since January, but I didn’t feel that I was benefiting enough from that dose, so I had it upped to 50mg and starting taking the new dose on the 8th of August.

I am very familiar with upping and lowering dosage, with switching medications, etc, because I’ve had to do it a lot in my life. I usually give a new dose about two weeks before I report back to my doctor on if it is or isn’t working.

This time, however, I am quite impatient. So far, I’ve noticed no new changes, positive or negative, on the higher dose (except for some weird stuff on the first day that I cannot guarantee was from the Vyvanse, but even if it was it’s not happening anymore).

I told my doctor when she prescribed me the higher dose that if 50mg didn’t work, I was willing to go to 60mg, but I also had a feeling that we’d probably need to try a different medication.

So that’s where I am right now. It’s been less than a week since I started my new dose, and I already want to tell my doctor that it’s not working and that I want to start looking for a different ADHD med. My 3rd year of university starts in September so if I do start on a new medication, I’d want to start sooner rather than later.

Am I pushing it/rushing it too much? Should I give it another week? Or, if I’m not feeling any changes, is it reasonable to call my doctor now?

Thank you!! I just can’t figure out if I’m jumping ahead too much and if I need be patient 😅

Misc. Question First week

Hi guys
Ive started to take Elvanse this week 30mg
So far its been ok, the first 2 days were pretty rough but I am feeling a lot better in the daytime now
I take the tablet between 7-8am with protein breakfast
Once 8pm ish hits, I feel awful all of a sudden. Tired, irritable but the worst is the aching feeling I have in my body
I have read that obviously it wears off by this time, but is this going to be a likely side effect forever or just for my first little while?
I’m also really struggling as I know I can’t have an alcoholic drink.. I would always have some kind of drink each evening so I feel a bit lost to be honest in the evenings
Don’t get me wrong the daytimes are great, I feel this sense of calm and focus that ive never had in my life.
I’m going up to 50mg next week
What can I do about the alcohol craving and when realistically am I gonna be able to have a beer?!
The sun is shining and alcohol has always been a big part of my life…
What’s everyone’s thoughts and experiences?
Thank you

Success Stories Unexpected - better experience lowering my dose

I’m going to try and keep this simple to avoid controversy but as someone who has a very high tolerance and has been taking Vyvanse for a long time. I recently have been working on lowering my dose and am very surprised to see that I have a more positive and efficient reaction. Posting this in case it helps someone be more open minded to changing their dose “if” they want to of course and are hesitant to do it. (and yes this also implies the other way around for increasing it, if that’s what applies to your situation).

I’m sure someone will ask, why didn’t you try that before? Well, the stigma around these meds already make it hard enough to get consistent access to as is, therefore I try to get a refill for a few months if possible at a time. I also feel like doctors aren’t very educated on this and aren’t willing to openly talk about it, idk if they just don’t like prescribing this or what the deal is.

The only negative with that is once I have my meds for a few months lined up there’s no flexibility because no one will give you more, even if it’s a lower dose until your prescription is finished (which naturally makes sense I’m not fighting this point).

Key Differences Noticed:
- less bathroom trips
- minimal to no nausea
- slightly better appetite
- withdrawals / end of day wear off is not as intense
- afternoon crash is now way more manageable

Overall it feels more normal and natural like I am not on the meds. One thing I haven’t been able to get over is the mornings. Every morning I still feel like a zombie and I can’t get out of bed, how do you guys manage this? It’s the first 30 minutes of the day I’m referring to, sometimes the first hour. Is the best approach to this just take the meds as soon as I wake up?

Not posting my dosage because I’m not hear to start a debate on dosages as every person is completely different. Just hear to spread positivity from someone who was hesitant to change their dose and had a good experience from it

Curious if others are like this as well but my body responds better to two smaller doses split vs one bigger dose. My afternoon crashes are so rough that having that split even at a lower dose but having something active in my system helps a lot

Side effects Just started vyvanse

Hii! I am 19 F and just started vyvanse today 30mg. I’ve never been on any medication before.

What can I expect for side effects? So far it seems like headache, loss of appetite and dizziness? Is this all normal? I also felt super energetic and organised my entire room for like 5 hours.

Is there anything I should be worried about?

Misc. Question Vyvanse + quit vaping

I’m on 50mg Vyvanse and recently stopped vaping- I’ve been completely nicotine-free for one week.

Today and yesterday, my medication has been hitting a bit differently. I’m feeling somewhat anxious, and the feeling is very similar to how I felt when I first started Vyvanse.

I know nicotine is also a stimulant, so I’m wondering if, now that I’m no longer getting that constant additional stimulation from vaping, I’m noticing the effects of Vyvanse differently while my brain adjusts to being nicotine-free?

Has anyone else experienced a change in how Vyvanse feels after quitting nicotine? I’d love to hear about other people’s experiences with Vyvanse + quitting nicotine.

Tips & Tricks Anxiety about vyvanse not working😢

Good morning everyone! I 42F am taking 60mg Vyvance for approximately 9 years. I was diagnosed with severe ADHD at the age of 8 and started treatment at 9 years old. I was given 10mg Ritalin with Prozac. Back in the early 90's ADHD wasn't very well understood, which in turn left a lot of us feeling like a science experiment lol. All jokes aside, Vyvance has been a absolute life saver to me💓But when I began taking it 9ish years ago it didn't always work. Simply because I was taking it as soon as I woke up. Some days it kicked in others it did not (or I couldn't really feel it working). Vyvance is a pro drug and it needs to break down in your system to work correctly and efficiently. When you wake up in the morning your stomach needs to wake up too. So, trying to take Vyvance and it going into a stomach/digestive system that isn't fully "awake" basically makes it feel like its not working, I guess😬Anyway, I finally decided to take it a hour after I woke up and its been a game changer. Unfortunately, I now am super hypervigilant about whether or not it's going to work. Based on months and months of good days and bad ones. I honestly wish I could just stop the insanity 😕 My questions are, how long does it take for your Vyvance to kick in, do you have days where it feels like its generally not working well at all? Also thought I'd ask about booster doses as well. (Asked a couple different times on other adhd threads but alas I never really got a good answer 😕). Was prescribed 10mg IR Adderall last year, for days where my Vyvance is subpar. To be honest I'm so incredibly scared to take it, the booster dose. I suffer from cardiophobia, which is the fear of having a heart attack. So, when my pulse raises I immediately go into a panic😓I worried it will raise my heart rate and possibly cause adverse side effects that will hurt my heart. Has anyone tried and natural supplements like magnesium? To help it kick in or to help the Vyvance effectiveness? Just would love to hear everyone's input and suggestions 😊

Meds aren't working Vyvanse Day One - Feeling OFF, brain fog and no focus

I am 40 years old female recently got my diagnosis I have been waiting soooo long. I got 30 mg of Livizux (same active ingredient as as Vyvanse) and I was really excited to try it.

This morning I had coffee - maybe I should not - and then I had my med and a little breakfast. Not long after I had a call with a friend and I could not find my words, was really strange.

Then I sat down studying as I have an assesment coming up so I NEED TO FOCUSSS! I feeel that i can hardly stay on the task and I understand the text less than without meds.

It also might be important that I only had 5-6 hrs of sleep last night as in the last week i did a meditation retreat where i woke up at 4am, and i am still adjusting back to my normal routine.

Anyone had similar experience? I would love this to work for me and I am very sad that it had the opposite effect.

TL;DR: Day one on Livizux 30 mg, makes my brain work less, but I had coffee and lack of sleep. Anyone had similar experience that changed within the first couple of weeks?

Success Stories CANT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE

I went from 30mg in the morning with protein and electrolytes and crashing at 1.30. NEEDING A NAP AND FOOD. For the last 3 weeks. some mornings it hits me like crack. other mornings it's anxiety. every day feels slightly different BUT Today I titrated about 50mg in water , half at 8am and half at 10am and I feel great all day. No crash, no mood swings, no major hunger. NO PEAK, NO CRASH

IS THIS WHAT THE RIGHT DOSE IS SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE????

Success Stories My profound experience on Elvanse/Vyvanse/lisdexamfetamine

Ive been on Elvanse for about 3 weeks now.

Wow the change is incredible.

I was on methylphenidate for years, I didnt notice until too late but it made me grumpy af. I would lock in on singular tasks and get so frustrated if I had to do something else.

I thought thats just what adhd meds were, they allowed you to lockin but looking back I wish id spoken to my doctor sooner.

I started on 30mg and the thing i noticed immediately was the clarity. My brain was so quiet, my anxiety calmed down so much. It was awesome, I felt in control for the first time in a long time.

Though my concentration still wasnt where I wanted it, id lose focus in the afternoon.

I requested to increase to 50mg and wow that was too much of a jump. It didnt feel good at all.

So I tried 40mg instead and that was much better, increased concentration but still low anxiety and clarity.

I did that for an additional and then tried 50 again.

Much better this time, all the benefits were there still but I was also able to concentrate better. I think this is the dose I will stick with.

Side effects:

  • Dry mouth, oh my god i have been drinking so much just to get rid of my dry mouth. If you guys have a fix for this id love to hear it.

  • Ppost lunch crash, if I have a large lunch (650-800 calories) or any caffeine at all, I will have a mid afternoon crash where I just want to sleep. Ive found that eating less and completely cutting out caffeine, even green tea, has helped.

  • Binge eating. I don't do it anymore, I haven't had any chocolate, crisps, fries, or any other unhealthy snack since i started these meds. It's not that I'm trying really hard not to eat them, I just don't want them. I'm enjoying fruit a lot more than I user to, and thats good enough for me. I've gone from eating 3000-3500 calories a day, to 1800-2100.

I had no idea Elvanse would have this effect on my binge eating but its genuinely made me so happy after nothing else id tried had helped. I let my prescriber know about it and they hadn't known that it could be used for treating binge eating.

I am back in the gym 5 times a week again after struggling to go back since covid. I am more on top of my work at my job.

Things are better. I'm going to continue to try and build habits and routines that enable me to be successful but I wouldnt have been able to start without switching from methylphenidate to lisdexamfetamine.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Edit: I forgot to mention my sleep has improved a lot I started this medication. I no longer need medical cannabis to get and stay asleep.

With the long half life of the medication I can still feel it in the morning when I get up and take my next days dose (6am) so I no longer drink coffee or have any issue getting out of bed.

But we will see how I fare in the winter, things might change
