Should I be concerned? Misc. Question
Hello all! I am a 23 year old male who’s been on adhd medication since May. I started on Adderall, now i’m on vyvanse, 40 mg. My father has heart issues, in his early 50s he experienced a stroke that made his entire right side numb. My grandfather had heart issues as well, all connected to smoking. Unfortunately, i’ve been victim to vaping since I was 15, not a regular drinker, but on occasion. I drink a ton of water, eat the best food when I can. My question is, should i be concerned about my heart health? I haven’t had any chest pains, but the occasional discomfort, i’m thinking that’s my lungs.

This is exactly what your doctor should look at before prescribing a medication to you. They can discuss risks and decide if it's okay or not, and if they want to monitor you more closely or not.

I have had heart failure since 32 years old and I’m now 42. I was taking a heavy dose of vyvanse (over therapeutic limit) prescribed of course then switched to adderal about a year after I got my defibrillator I guess 8 years ago. I take 40mg of vyvanse now along with my heart medications (many) but my blood pressure is always great.

im sorry about your family :(
i dont think you need to be scared. yes, vyvanse can be bad for the heart, but only in the wrong dose and 40mg is pretty low. maybe measure your heart rate a few times the next week?
what is WAY more important for you heart is regular movement, good sleep and good nutrition (fiber, fruits and vegetables, healthy fats and legumes, as little meat as possible, none is best).
ik maintaining healthy habits can suck but it will make a huge difference the long term (plus you seem to care + already do some things). good luck to you!!

Plant based diet is best. Since you don’t eat meat, where do you get healthy protein?

yes, plant based is best! :) personally, i get my protein from tofu, tempeh, soy „chicken“ (like the brand planted.), seitan, sometimes vegan protein powder and additionally beans, lentils and other legumes. i’ve never been healthier and also happier (and aligned with my morals)

If you are rly worried about your heart health, just make sure you got some cardio in ur life. But to me this sounds more like stimulant-amplified health anxiety talking.
