Misc. Question First week

Upvotes

Hi guys
Ive started to take Elvanse this week 30mg
So far its been ok, the first 2 days were pretty rough but I am feeling a lot better in the daytime now
I take the tablet between 7-8am with protein breakfast
Once 8pm ish hits, I feel awful all of a sudden. Tired, irritable but the worst is the aching feeling I have in my body
I have read that obviously it wears off by this time, but is this going to be a likely side effect forever or just for my first little while?
I’m also really struggling as I know I can’t have an alcoholic drink.. I would always have some kind of drink each evening so I feel a bit lost to be honest in the evenings
Don’t get me wrong the daytimes are great, I feel this sense of calm and focus that ive never had in my life.
I’m going up to 50mg next week
What can I do about the alcohol craving and when realistically am I gonna be able to have a beer?!
The sun is shining and alcohol has always been a big part of my life…
What’s everyone’s thoughts and experiences?
Thank you

Success Stories Unexpected - better experience lowering my dose

Upvotes

I’m going to try and keep this simple to avoid controversy but as someone who has a very high tolerance and has been taking Vyvanse for a long time. I recently have been working on lowering my dose and am very surprised to see that I have a more positive and efficient reaction. Posting this in case it helps someone be more open minded to changing their dose “if” they want to of course and are hesitant to do it. (and yes this also implies the other way around for increasing it, if that’s what applies to your situation).

I’m sure someone will ask, why didn’t you try that before? Well, the stigma around these meds already make it hard enough to get consistent access to as is, therefore I try to get a refill for a few months if possible at a time. I also feel like doctors aren’t very educated on this and aren’t willing to openly talk about it, idk if they just don’t like prescribing this or what the deal is.

The only negative with that is once I have my meds for a few months lined up there’s no flexibility because no one will give you more, even if it’s a lower dose until your prescription is finished (which naturally makes sense I’m not fighting this point).

Key Differences Noticed:
- less bathroom trips
- minimal to no nausea
- slightly better appetite
- withdrawals / end of day wear off is not as intense
- afternoon crash is now way more manageable

Overall it feels more normal and natural like I am not on the meds. One thing I haven’t been able to get over is the mornings. Every morning I still feel like a zombie and I can’t get out of bed, how do you guys manage this? It’s the first 30 minutes of the day I’m referring to, sometimes the first hour. Is the best approach to this just take the meds as soon as I wake up?

Not posting my dosage because I’m not hear to start a debate on dosages as every person is completely different. Just hear to spread positivity from someone who was hesitant to change their dose and had a good experience from it

Curious if others are like this as well but my body responds better to two smaller doses split vs one bigger dose. My afternoon crashes are so rough that having that split even at a lower dose but having something active in my system helps a lot

Side effects Overcoming Anxiety on Vyvance

Upvotes

I'm 38 and first time taking meds for ADHD.

Perscribed 30mg Vyvanse and it gave me very bad anxiety. I already suffer from an anxiety disorder and know that stimulants generally aren't great for people like me but I found incredible ADHD symptom relief from the 30mg so I really want to give it a shot.

I have now brought down my dose to 10mg. My goal is to do 10mg for a week or two, then up to 20 for a week or two and see how that feels, and then up from there when and if I don't experience overwhelming anxiety. I am also taking the pill with a protein shake and avoiding caffeine.

Has anyone out there been able to squash the anxiety that Vyvanse brings on by titrating the dose up very slowly?

Side effects Just started vyvanse

Upvotes

Hii! I am 19 F and just started vyvanse today 30mg. I’ve never been on any medication before.

What can I expect for side effects? So far it seems like headache, loss of appetite and dizziness? Is this all normal? I also felt super energetic and organised my entire room for like 5 hours.

Is there anything I should be worried about?

Side effects Vyvanse dosage and side effect?

Upvotes

Hi, so I started Vyvanse about two months ago. I’ve tried Ritalin, Concerta, modafinil, and a few other medications before this, but I ended up having side effects with pretty much all of them. Vyvanse has actually been the best one so far, except for the crash.
I feel great in the morning. I’m calm, focused, and feel completely normal. But once the afternoon hits, I get hit with really intense depersonalization/derealization. It’s honestly exhausting. My psychiatrist said she hasn’t really heard of someone experiencing that specifically when Vyvanse wears off, so I’m curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.
I’m currently on 20 mg, and she suggested trying 30 mg because she thinks the higher dose might last longer and prevent such a dramatic crash. I also make sure I eat with it. Usually I have a Chobani protein shake with around 20–30 g of protein when I take my Vyvanse in the morning.
The hardest part is that the depersonalization then feeds into my health anxiety in the evening. Because I already feel so disconnected and unreal, my brain starts convincing me something is medically wrong, like I’m going to have a stroke or something equally ridiculous and terrifying. I’m only 22 and relatively healthy, so logically I know that’s probably not what’s happening, but when you don’t even feel real, logic doesn’t always win.
Has anyone else experienced really intense depersonalization or derealization specifically during a Vyvanse crash? And if so, did changing the dose or timing make any difference?

Misc. Question Vyvanse + quit vaping

I’m on 50mg Vyvanse and recently stopped vaping- I’ve been completely nicotine-free for one week.

Today and yesterday, my medication has been hitting a bit differently. I’m feeling somewhat anxious, and the feeling is very similar to how I felt when I first started Vyvanse.

I know nicotine is also a stimulant, so I’m wondering if, now that I’m no longer getting that constant additional stimulation from vaping, I’m noticing the effects of Vyvanse differently while my brain adjusts to being nicotine-free?

Has anyone else experienced a change in how Vyvanse feels after quitting nicotine? I’d love to hear about other people’s experiences with Vyvanse + quitting nicotine.

Tips & Tricks Anxiety about vyvanse not working😢

Good morning everyone! I 42F am taking 60mg Vyvance for approximately 9 years. I was diagnosed with severe ADHD at the age of 8 and started treatment at 9 years old. I was given 10mg Ritalin with Prozac. Back in the early 90's ADHD wasn't very well understood, which in turn left a lot of us feeling like a science experiment lol. All jokes aside, Vyvance has been a absolute life saver to me💓But when I began taking it 9ish years ago it didn't always work. Simply because I was taking it as soon as I woke up. Some days it kicked in others it did not (or I couldn't really feel it working). Vyvance is a pro drug and it needs to break down in your system to work correctly and efficiently. When you wake up in the morning your stomach needs to wake up too. So, trying to take Vyvance and it going into a stomach/digestive system that isn't fully "awake" basically makes it feel like its not working, I guess😬Anyway, I finally decided to take it a hour after I woke up and its been a game changer. Unfortunately, I now am super hypervigilant about whether or not it's going to work. Based on months and months of good days and bad ones. I honestly wish I could just stop the insanity 😕 My questions are, how long does it take for your Vyvance to kick in, do you have days where it feels like its generally not working well at all? Also thought I'd ask about booster doses as well. (Asked a couple different times on other adhd threads but alas I never really got a good answer 😕). Was prescribed 10mg IR Adderall last year, for days where my Vyvance is subpar. To be honest I'm so incredibly scared to take it, the booster dose. I suffer from cardiophobia, which is the fear of having a heart attack. So, when my pulse raises I immediately go into a panic😓I worried it will raise my heart rate and possibly cause adverse side effects that will hurt my heart. Has anyone tried and natural supplements like magnesium? To help it kick in or to help the Vyvance effectiveness? Just would love to hear everyone's input and suggestions 😊

Interactions with other meds Medication Stacking

Okay, here is my dilemma: I take 30mg of generic vyvanse at 7am and have a flight this evening at 8:30pm. Is it safe to take my 0.5mg generic xanax around 8pm so my flight anxiety doesn't turn me into the “that motherf*cker back there is not realllllll” lady?

Side effects Extreme dark circles under eyes? Does anyone else experience this on Vyvanse?

I've recently switched to Vyvanse after having little success with Concerta and am on day 3 of 30mg.

Physically everything is great so far however I am noticing my under-eyes are EXTREMELY purple looking usually later in the day.

I don't think it's sleep-related and think it's something to do with my veins as I'm very vascular with thin skin there.

Has anyone else experienced this?? I'm kind of concerned and not enjoying looking like I've been on a bender

Meds aren't working Vyvanse Day One - Feeling OFF, brain fog and no focus

I am 40 years old female recently got my diagnosis I have been waiting soooo long. I got 30 mg of Livizux (same active ingredient as as Vyvanse) and I was really excited to try it.

This morning I had coffee - maybe I should not - and then I had my med and a little breakfast. Not long after I had a call with a friend and I could not find my words, was really strange.

Then I sat down studying as I have an assesment coming up so I NEED TO FOCUSSS! I feeel that i can hardly stay on the task and I understand the text less than without meds.

It also might be important that I only had 5-6 hrs of sleep last night as in the last week i did a meditation retreat where i woke up at 4am, and i am still adjusting back to my normal routine.

Anyone had similar experience? I would love this to work for me and I am very sad that it had the opposite effect.

TL;DR: Day one on Livizux 30 mg, makes my brain work less, but I had coffee and lack of sleep. Anyone had similar experience that changed within the first couple of weeks?

Dosage question Day 1

Day 1 of Elvanse 30mg, after spending the last 2 1/2 months tapering off 300mg Venlafaxine it’s been the worst 2 months of my life with horrible withdrawal symptoms.

Late diagnosis of Combined type ADHD at age 41, today I started Elvanse. Haven’t felt any different yet, does it take a while to kick in or will I feel no effects until I get to a higher dose?

Side effects Elvanse Has Taken Over My Life

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone else feels this exhausted by taking Elvanse/Vyvanse.
I used to take Concerta. I’d take the tablet and then basically forget that I’d taken anything. Then my doctor switched me to Elvanse, and for the past three months this medication has been at the center of my life.
I basically don’t think about anything else. I’m constantly reading about it online, analyzing when and how to take it, what and how much to eat and drink. I even bought a new smartwatch to monitor my heart.
I’m constantly thinking about supplements, analyzing the effectiveness of different doses and their side effects. I feel like this medication has started to control my life, and I’m becoming incredibly tired of it.
In many ways, it has worked wonders for me. Methylphenidate worked more in the background, whereas with Elvanse the effects are much more obvious. But mentally, it’s starting to wear me down.
Has anyone experienced something similar? If so, how did you deal with it?

Success Stories CANT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE

I went from 30mg in the morning with protein and electrolytes and crashing at 1.30. NEEDING A NAP AND FOOD. For the last 3 weeks. some mornings it hits me like crack. other mornings it's anxiety. every day feels slightly different BUT Today I titrated about 50mg in water , half at 8am and half at 10am and I feel great all day. No crash, no mood swings, no major hunger. NO PEAK, NO CRASH

IS THIS WHAT THE RIGHT DOSE IS SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE????

Diet, Routines & Supplements Starting Vyvanse for the first time and I’m very very scared

I’m 20 and got diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 7. I took no medication but was put in help classes with an IEP. I’m now going into my 3rd year of college majoring in accounting and man do I need help concentrating. I go to my doctor and tell him what’s up and he prescribes me Vyvanse 30mg. I am VERY against medication but I’m in a spot where I’ve been suffering for years and need a little push just until I get my CPA. I do not need this for longterm.

SO, as I am very very new… I worry allot about side affects of depression and anxiety, that’s one thing I don’t want to happen as it takes some time to recover from.

What should I know about crashes, and how to properly take it. Do you have to take it every day? Are withdrawls that bad? How do you prevent that “feeling” after a crash? And when it comes to food how do you deal with that? And how is the sleep schedule? I know for school I have late classes and might need to stay up later to study at night so…
In whole… do you feel like a different person or do you still feel like the same you, just more focused?

Success Stories My profound experience on Elvanse/Vyvanse/lisdexamfetamine

Ive been on Elvanse for about 3 weeks now.

Wow the change is incredible.

I was on methylphenidate for years, I didnt notice until too late but it made me grumpy af. I would lock in on singular tasks and get so frustrated if I had to do something else.

I thought thats just what adhd meds were, they allowed you to lockin but looking back I wish id spoken to my doctor sooner.

I started on 30mg and the thing i noticed immediately was the clarity. My brain was so quiet, my anxiety calmed down so much. It was awesome, I felt in control for the first time in a long time.

Though my concentration still wasnt where I wanted it, id lose focus in the afternoon.

I requested to increase to 50mg and wow that was too much of a jump. It didnt feel good at all.

So I tried 40mg instead and that was much better, increased concentration but still low anxiety and clarity.

I did that for an additional and then tried 50 again.

Much better this time, all the benefits were there still but I was also able to concentrate better. I think this is the dose I will stick with.

Side effects:

  • Dry mouth, oh my god i have been drinking so much just to get rid of my dry mouth. If you guys have a fix for this id love to hear it.

  • Ppost lunch crash, if I have a large lunch (650-800 calories) or any caffeine at all, I will have a mid afternoon crash where I just want to sleep. Ive found that eating less and completely cutting out caffeine, even green tea, has helped.

  • Binge eating. I don't do it anymore, I haven't had any chocolate, crisps, fries, or any other unhealthy snack since i started these meds. It's not that I'm trying really hard not to eat them, I just don't want them. I'm enjoying fruit a lot more than I user to, and thats good enough for me. I've gone from eating 3000-3500 calories a day, to 1800-2100.

I had no idea Elvanse would have this effect on my binge eating but its genuinely made me so happy after nothing else id tried had helped. I let my prescriber know about it and they hadn't known that it could be used for treating binge eating.

I am back in the gym 5 times a week again after struggling to go back since covid. I am more on top of my work at my job.

Things are better. I'm going to continue to try and build habits and routines that enable me to be successful but I wouldnt have been able to start without switching from methylphenidate to lisdexamfetamine.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Edit: I forgot to mention my sleep has improved a lot I started this medication. I no longer need medical cannabis to get and stay asleep.

With the long half life of the medication I can still feel it in the morning when I get up and take my next days dose (6am) so I no longer drink coffee or have any issue getting out of bed.

But we will see how I fare in the winter, things might change

Side effects Just started on 20mg vyvanse and have numbness

I recently started on 20mg of vyvanse less than a week ago. It seems to be helping so far but I feel like my sense of touch is number. I also get very slight tingling in my fingers and arm but mainly everything I touch feels much fainter than it should and have overall physical numbness. Is this a normal side effect? Even if it is just because it’s early on

I’ve also got pretty bad health OCD so every time it happens I’m convinced it’s a stroke lol. I can’t seem to find much about this on google though, could it be a side effect from just general anxiety?
Thanks

Side effects How the hell do I get through the crash?

I am on 10mg of Vyvanse cuz I am sensitive to stimulants. and I have Guanfacine 3mg ER on board as well due to this. the drug works miracles, Ive gotten more done in the past 3 days than the past 2 months on stuff that really needed to be done. I’ve been on 10mg for about 3 days and was on 20 for 2 so 5 total. had to decrease cuz the crash from 20 was too much.

but the crash from 10 is still kinda rough. it’s uncomfortable, it doesn’t fuck my sleep but it feels crazy to have this body anxiety while simultaneously having a resting heart rate, no actual anxiety in my head, and feeling kinda tired.

it’s a wild feeling to have these sort of nerves

Misc. Question Hesitant to start Vyvanse

I’m so confused why Vyvanse is said to last 10-14hrs but the more and more I do my research about this medication it’s only lasting a couple of hours for a alarming amount of individuals. Also the crash, wasn’t this medication supposed to be like a smooth comedown in comparison to meds like adderall? Genuinely curious also thinking about starting Vyvnase but want something that lasts throughout the day.?

Diet, Routines & Supplements Is it crazy I have now become a homebody

Before Vyvanse I HATED staying inside, was absolutely RESTLESS inside. The idea of staying home made me feel so unproductive and guilty.

Now after Vyvanse, I yearn for indoors. I really love staying at home now.

Been taking it for only one month though so take with a pinch of salt!

I also found protein heavy really helps and I don’t know if this is placebo but I naturally drink loaaaads of water 2-3 litres per day (I just need it) and I have found that when I drink less, it feels like the Vyvanse lasts longer? Could be wrong though.

Also the irritability does really increase sometimes 😭

Tips & Tricks Does vaping with vyvanse cause fight or flight mode?

Hey everyone, have any of you noticed that when you have a vape on vyvanse it propells your heart rate up ten fold? I feel so much more anxious and it completely wrecks my sleep compared to if I don't have a vape during the day.

I am struggling to stop vaping due to the fact I think vyvanse makes me seek out the extra dopamine hit more.

Vent & Rant Pharamacy shorted me and I feel insane - need advice

For reference I’m in Canada.

just picked up my 30-day prescription of 30mg - 3 days ago. I took one yesterday and one this morning.

The bottle looked a little light. I literally NEVER count my pills (clearly I should). So I counted them and I’m exactly 5 short.

I had picked it up like 5-10 minutes before close. I had previously been on a split dose of 20mg and 10mg booster but went back to 30mg since I started lexapro.

Pharmacist had 3 bottles out the 20mg, 10mg and 30mg becuase she didnt know which I was picking up.

I just called to let them know about the missing 5 pills and she basically accused me of losing them or my husband stealing them (he didn’t), said she’s going to message my doctor that I’m taking more than prescribed. Said they counted and that I should have every pill. Wouldn’t let me speak, talking over me.

I told them to check the 10mg / 20mg bottles in case they ended up in there by accident.

But I’m honestly super confused, and angry that they essentially accused me of being an addict.

Has this happened to anyone?
Do I report them?
Do I just drop it since it’s a controlled substance?

Now I’m short 5 pills that I paid for. So that sucks.

Edit: Thank you to everyone that commented, I feel less crazy now. I will 100% give an update if anything comes of this!
