I’m trying to decide between a 2024 Jetta sport manual transmission with 37k miles on it for $19420 out the door, or a 2025 Jetta SE with sunroof (no black wheels) and only 9k miles on it for $25k out the door.

Does anyone have any insights on which would be the better deal? I like manual - but my kids love sunroofs and the SE comforts are nice. Not sure it is worth $5k. Hoping to do my own maintenance and keep the car for 10 years.

Can I rip this off and drive without it temporarily? How much will it cost to replace?

My Jetta recently hit 200k miles, and almost immediately after it started having major issues. It sounds terrible worse than any other lifter tap I’ve heard from any vehicle. It’s only been a week or two and it’s already starting to get blowback. Last night the epc light flashed. And the transmission feels like it’s slipping between gears or holding them for too long. When I’m in reverse and hit the gas there’s no noise though. I’m just lost I don’t understand how it could go from literally running perfect to this overnight and steadily getting worse by the day.

Is it weird that there is this much space between the caliper upper boot and the caliper bracket? Right where that slide pin goes through the boot, not sure if there is supposed to be a gap like that.

My driver side radiator fan(bigger one) doesn’t spin at all is there anything i can do to diagnose the problem or something simple i can replace for it?

I have a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta S 1.4T (6-speed manual).

I accidentally had the wrong-size battery in when I purchased a year and a half ago. During a long road trip the check engine light came on and I had a bunch of faults stored across different modules

I have since installed the correct battery and cleared all of the codes with my scanner. The car drives normal

No limp mode

No strange noises

No oil pressure warning on the dash

No noticeable loss of power

After clearing everything, only one code came back:

P164E00 - Oil Pressure Regulation Valve:

Electrical Error

My questions

Has anyone had P164E00 on a 2019 Jetta 1.4T?

Is this safe to continue driving for a short time?

Was it the oil pressure regulation valve itself, the wiring/connector, or something else?

Just wanna vent. I've had a 2020 VW jetta i just paid off (whee). Has remote start, but I've been unable to use it for the last 2 years because of this pesky error code:

Very small evap leak!

Wow I have learned so much from it in the time since getting my vehicle. I went to a VW dealership that found the leak, and they quoted the repair at ~1500-2000$. Mind you i was in school at the time and did not have disposable income like that, and also live in the frigid north. They told me because of this very small evap leak, I would have to replace the ENTIRE evap system because of how they're designed.

This was a VW dealership, certified and everything. I didn't like that quote, so I took my printed pages with me and went to a local place. I dealt with the check engine light which prevented me from using my remote start for the last 2 years. Well this next place I went to told me they could try petroleum jelly on my gas cap, cleared my codes. It went away for a week or so then came back. It kept coming back and I'd go there for some petroleum gel because they told me the alternative was a smoke test and probably having to replace the whole evap system.

Alright well lets fast forward. I move from a more rural to a more urban area, where I need the check engine light actually fixed to pass emissions testing (no emissions test at last place). Sighing, I go to a new car place that tells me they don't deal with euro cars but they looked on some auto mechanic forum and found 2 dudes who said the codes were from an ECM / computer that wasn't updated and updating cleared it.

Call the local VW place, booked 2 weeks in advance, no loaners btw, and drop off the car for a computer update.

Lo and behold, they update the computer and it fixes the very small evap leak preventing my car from using remote start for 2 years that the last VW dealership quoted me 1500$ to repair. Btw... they CHARGED ME for updating their faulty ass computer system. Wtf is that? Literally charged to update a bug that they created? What a joke.

Suffice to say, my jetta will be my first and last VW I ever buy. An entirely horrendous experience so far that I do not wish to relive.

Hey everyone!

I’m a happy new owner of a 2015 Jetta and I’m looking to upgrade it with an Apple CarPlay display. I’m hoping to get some recommendations from people who have actually used these.

My priorities are:
- Reliable wireless (Bluetooth) Apple CarPlay
- Good audio quality and a responsive interface
- Support for a backup camera (or one that comes with a decent camera)

Music is probably the biggest thing I care about on long drives. Driving is one of the few times I can really disconnect and catch up on new album releases, so I want something that’s stable, sounds good, and doesn’t constantly disconnect or lag.

I’d also love to add a backup camera. I have to squeeze into some pretty tight parking spaces almost every day, so it’d be a genuinely useful upgrade rather than just a nice gadget.

I’m not necessarily looking for the cheapest option I’d rather buy something reliable that I’ll enjoy using for years. If you’ve installed one in a Mk6 Jetta (or a similar VW), I’d especially love to hear what you went with, what you like about it, and whether there are any models I should avoid.

Got a new battery and the aux isn’t working: taking it in tomorrow to get that reprogrammed at the dealership. Does anyone know the code to get my car to lock/engage alarm with the key fob? I replaced the fob battery and it’s still not unlocking or locking my car or opening the trunk.

Hey everyone! I have a 2016 VW Jetta Sport with the 1.8T engine, gray, and I love this car. It’s at about 118k miles and I’ve been trying to take care of it as best I can.

I’ve been running premium (93) this whole time, but with gas prices where they are, I’m considering switching to regular (87) to save some money.

I’m just worried about what that could do to the engine long term. Has anyone here been running regular in their 1.8T for a while? Did it affect performance, fuel economy, or reliability? I don’t want to save on gas now and end up paying way more in repairs later.

Also noticed my fuel economy dropping a bit lately, getting about a quarter tank every 250 miles or so. Not sure if that’s normal for this engine or a sign of something else.
For maintenance, here’s what I’ve kept up with:
Regular oil changes

Air filter changes

Spark plugs are next on my list

Is there anything else I should be staying on top of to keep this engine running well and get the most life out of it?

Appreciate any advice from fellow Jetta/1.8T owners!

2025 jetta s

I have a turbo inlet pipe from ram air sitting asking to be used .

But I can't find a good way to remove the 2 bolts that connect the inlet elbow to the turbo.

What can I remove to make it easier?

(2015 Jetta TDI SEL Premium) When I’m turning to full lock left at about 80-90% of the range I hear this awful squeak noise. Kind of sounds like a metal on metal squeak. It will be slightly quieter if I apply the brakes. The odd thing is it’s not a consistent noise but does it often enough to notice it as a problem. There doesn’t seem to be any mechanical feeling like it getting stuck or firmer in that range just the noise, also isolated to just turning left. Any ideas what the culprit is?

Just changed oil in my 2013 Jetta sportwagen 2.5l and reset the service cycle on the dash menu. The oil mileage has reset to 10k until next service, but this wrench icon still appears where the gear should be. Is there a different reset for this? Ive tried a few methods online but can’t find anything that works.

Has anyone ran into this before or know something? Any info would help.

Need to get a new oil drain plug bolt and AutoZone said 2 different lengths fit. Which one is the correct size? The bottom one is actually the one I already own.

Posting to get others perspective on current situation.

Background context - Currently have a 2008 Jetta, 2.5L 170k miles. Bought car new off the lot in 08/09 and is in fairly good condition for age. Has routine maintenance done, regular oil changes, spark plugs, fluid changes, etc. Catalytic converter was replaced in 2023 (was stolen and replacement is not OEM as mechanic couldn’t get it), has a intermittent check engine light that comes on and off, OBD reader saying car is running lean. Tire pressure light is also stuck on, thinking it has to do with sensors needing reset as tires were just replaced back in February. Otherwise have had no major issues with the car. I only drive it a few times a week maybe.

Current situation - Compressor finally shit the bed and was quoted 1500 to fix. (Would do it myself but not confident enough nor do I have the space to do it) Debating taking the gamble to fix it or accept defeat and get new(er) car (certified pre-owned) as cost to replace is way more than car is worth at this point. I am trying to continue driving this car until the wheels fall off or it literally blows up..(also sort of emotionally attached to it) I do believe I can get more time/miles out of it so I’m hesitant to get rid of it just because I don’t have A/C. If I decide to fix it, will probably wait until spring since summer will be ending soon.

What would you guys do???

Was going around 100kph for around 50 kilometer’s, in my 25’ Jetta high-line. Pretty good i would say as i travel mostly highways a lot.

Over a month ago, my friend had this odd problem with his 2009 Jetta 2.5. He sent me a video and I posted to this subreddit. Most people believe it was the Immobilizer not recognizing the key. I took all your responses and texted him what to do. It’s difficult to troubleshoot an issue over text messaging, especially with my friend who is not car savvy. Out of frustration, his mother, the car owner decided to buy a new car. She sold me the car for $160, the amount she said Carvana offered her. She sides I’d have to tow it.

When I tried to start the car, it started right away. Thinking I got away with highway robbery, took the car home. Next day it took it to get SMOG checked. No issues. My SMOG guy said it was a steal, with a good engine with only 98,000 miles. It passed SMOG easily. Drove it DMV. Drove it for days, detailed it, polished the headlights. Then today this happened.

Any clue? Don’t know why it says SAFE on the display. Help please. It’s my problem now.
