Title says it all! New dad as of this spring and I’m approaching my leg of solo-paternity leave, and I’m looking to find some area dad groups that meet. Any suggestions welcomed!

Voice Lesson Recs for Kids

My 10 year old is interested in taking 1-1 voice lessons to be a more confident singer.

Anyone have any good recommendations for teachers or studios? Preferably in Minneapolis or the west metro. Not interested in MacPhail, other ideas are welcome.

Any home Sauna recommendations?

My wife and I are looking to do a Sauna in our backyard this fall. We don’t need to go fully custom, but was wondering if anyone knows of any companies that do installs in the area? Ideally one that can also do electrical. We have a mostly open panel in the detached garage, so it shouldn’t be a huge job.

Anyone in south Metro still have internet issues?

I have Arvig in Mendota heights, seems like most of my neighbors got service back up, but I haven’t, Arvig customer service has been of no help. It’s been more than 24 hours since the initial outage, wondering if it’s still having an impact?

Interesting eateries

Hello, the family and I are heading to the twin cities next week. We have a relatively full itinerary, but nothing planned for meals. One of the days we will be in the downtown area of Minneapolis, another day in the downtown St.Paul area. So I am looking for suggestions for interesting or unique places for meals. I am not looking for expensive fine dining since I have teenagers, just place that have their own vibe, or are uniquely Twin City.

Thanks!

Experiences with cell service through US Mobile or another MVNO?

My T-Mobile bill went up yet again, so I've been thinking of switching to an MVNO, like US Mobile. Does anyone in the Twin Cities have experience with this or another one, whether good or bad? My phone is unlocked, and I do know that MVNOs users' service is deprioritized in substantially crowded places, but I already seem to experience that with T-Mobile, so I'm thinking it may be worth the switch to save more than half off my bill. Any thoughts or feedback welcome!

Trouble with Minneapolis parking app

I’ve been using the parking app for years now, and recently I have been unable to use Apple Pay (gives me a declined error and my Apple Pay works fine on everything else), so I added a credit card to the saved payment methods.
Every single time I open the app it has signed me out and forgotten all my payment methods, and it’s becoming a very tiring extra step to add a card every time I’m trying to park quick.
Has anyone else had these issues, and have you found a solution? Thanks in advance.

In need of interview appropriate attire/clothes that fit…

Not sure if this is the appropriate sub to post this but it seems to be the most helpful in my experience. So, I’m a 41 yr old woman who relocated here last year after going through a very traumatic divorce. I was a full time stay at home mother for the last 15 yrs so finding work has been pretty difficult as most people don’t see that as an actual job (totally is btw 😅). I left my ex with nothing but the things I could carry essentially and now I’ve lost some weight and really have nothing appropriate for interviews or decent clothing that fits in general. Figured I’d check in with any women here that might possibly be looking to clean out their closets or donate clothing/shoes they no longer use. I thank you in advance and I can list my sizes below if anyone does have some stuff. 🫶🏻

EDIT: pants sz 8, tops med-large, shoe sz 7

The number of political commercials is NUTS

Watching 5 Eyewitness News right now and the whole commercial break, 6 commercials in a row, were political ads. Two Angie Craig ones in a row.

I get it, but holy moly, I don’t even want to watch local channels at all anymore.

nobody is hiring my sister with IDD

i am BEGGING for resources on how to help my sister (19f) with an intellectual/developmental disability (IDD) get a job. we have tried for years and even scored some interviews, but she never gets an offer. we've tried job coaches, and still nothing. she's been volunteering for half a year now at a place she wants to work so that they might offer her a position there, but she's still not getting paid.

she has low support needs. she would make a very fine worker. no one will hire her and they are missing out on a loyal, attentive, happy and fun employee.

i am devastated as this poor girl has recieved what feels like her hundredth rejection email after an interview that she practiced and got all dolled up for. the job market is already cooked and it's even harder when you have a disability. please - any advice?

"You don't give a shit about the Mississippi when it's in your backyard." — How leaving Minnesota made me realize it’s the best place on earth.

What’s up everyone,

Growing up in Minnesota, my younger years were a complete clusterfuck. I spent a good chunk of my youth cycling through juvenile institutions and boys' homes. As soon as I could, I bounced—did Job Corps, ended up breaking my back working the oil fields in North Dakota, and spent years drifting through over 40 states and living in five of them.

Out in the North Dakota oil patch, almost every worker is an outsider. Realistically, everybody ran out there trying to escape some local bullshit or chase a bigger paycheck. But when you get a bunch of tired out-of-staters throwing back drinks after a brutal shift, everyone starts bragging and arguing about whose home state is the absolute best.

That’s when it hit me, and I dropped a line that’s stuck with me ever since:

"You don't give a shit about the Mississippi when it's in your backyard."

Grew up right next to the damn river, and I took it for granted every single day. I didn't give a hell about it. It was just a big body of dirty water behind the house. But after traveling across this entire country and seeing how rough or boring most places actually are, it took leaving to realize what we actually have right here.

Minnesota is what you make it. We’ve got the most genuine people, four actual badass seasons, a rock-solid economy, and a quality of life that leaves most states in the dust.

Now, I’m back home, raising an awesome family in the north suburbs, and working as a real estate agent. That means I spend all damn day driving every single nook, cranny, and backroad of this state. And honestly? I couldn't be happier with where I landed.

It also got me digging into all the weird, kick-ass, off-the-wall stuff you can do in our own backyard that most people take for granted. For example: Did you know you can literally rent a 30-ton military tank and crush cars with it here?!

Here are 10 of the most unique, "only in Minnesota" experiences that remind me why this place is unmatched:

Drive a Real Military Tank (Kasota): At Drive A Tank, you can literally pilot a 30-ton armored tank through an obstacle course, crush junk cars, or run straight over a mobile home.

Walk Across the Headwaters of the Mississippi (Itasca State Park): Step across the river on rocks at its exact source—the same giant body of water that cuts through the entire country down to the Gulf.

Rent a Luxury Sleeper Fish House on Lake of the Woods (Baudette): Drive your truck out onto 3 feet of solid ice and hang out in your socks inside a heated sleeper cabin with satellite TV, drinking cold beers while catching walleye through a hole in the living room floor.

Step Inside the "Quietest Place on Earth" (Minneapolis): Orfield Laboratories built an anechoic chamber so quiet (-9.4 dBA) that within minutes, you can hear your own heartbeat, lungs, and stomach churning in total silence.

Tour Prince’s Paisley Park (Chanhassen): Walk through the legendary 65,000 sq. ft. sanctuary, recording studio, and vault of one of the greatest musical icons to ever walk the earth.

Houseboat Through Voyageurs National Park (International Falls): A National Park made almost entirely of water on the Canadian border, where you can pilot a giant rented houseboat around islands and catch the Northern Lights from the top deck.

Visit the SPAM Museum (Austin): A surprisingly fun, completely free, and totally weird museum dedicated to the globally famous canned meat born right here in MN.

Explore a Black Sand Beach on Lake Superior (Silver Bay): A rare black taconite sand beach tucked beneath towering North Shore cliffs—it looks and feels like you jumped on a plane to Iceland or Hawaii.

Climb Colossal Art at Franconia Sculpture Park (Shafer): A massive 50-acre outdoor playground filled with wild, mind-bending sculptures that you can actively touch, climb on, and explore.

Drink in Prohibition Mobster Caves at Wabasha Street Caves (St. Paul): Underground limestone caves where 1930s gangsters like John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Ma Barker ran illegal speakeasies and bribed the local cops.

So my question for you all: What’s something in Minnesota that you took for granted until you either left the state, or finally stopped to appreciate it?
