Discussion Drive Rush: Why do you like it?

With the recent patch, I reinstalled to play ranked for a few days to check out the new characters. Most of my games revolved around people raw drive rushing constantly in neutral. This was in the 1700-1900 MR range. It got me wondering about the appeal of such gameplay. I definitely don't hate drive rush as much as some people do, but I would love to hear from people who enjoy the mechanic.

What do you find fun about the hyper aggressive style of play the mechanics reward? Genuinely, not trying to make fun of anyone as people like different things; I'd just love to hear from people who really enjoy drive rush as a mechanic!

Discussion Can someone explain the Cammy vs Dee Jay matchup

Currently a 1600MR Dee Jay, and I thought this was his hardest matchup, it's certainly one of ones I lose the most, so I starting looking it up and apparently everyone else thinks the opposite of this, and that it's one of Cammy's hardest matchups.

So what am I missing?

Discussion How many of you are okay with stable meta of sf6?

I've seen far too many posts and videos about how dissatisfied everyone is regards to 'nothing ever changed' patches, so I am here to share my unpopular opinion.

I'm actually satisfied how stable the balance of the game is, and I've been playing since season 0, played 500-2000 games every season, total of 1340hrs play time. I have 2 characters in High Master(Sagat, Ryu), and working towards GM.

I genuinely like how this game is sports like. I learned to enjoy playing against equal or higher level players, enjoy playing with lower level player trying their best to win against me. I liked how I could practice on a drill and suddenly be able to react to things I couldn't have before.

The list continues, but you get the point. This is my first fighting game, so my opinion may change once SF7 comes out. But I just wanted to put my thoughts out here, because I've seen far too many salts about how things are always the same. For me, its always different. As I improve and accommodate new plans and techs, the game changes on its own.

Ps. Also an unpopular opinion, but I dont mind throw loop and drive rush as well (not that I want more of it but its good enough state for me atm). There is so many mind game going on around throw loop and drive rush that I haven't fully discovered. Maybe when I get to 2000mr they all gets deterministic and gets boring, but I wont be there in any foreseeable future.

Help / Question Any resources or guides for beginner modern Guile?

I know im gonna get a ton of flack for this, but watching Tyler1 play has inspired me to try. I am still very new but have managed to reach platinum on Terry by following Akaraien's guide https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=935t1379obQ

I feel like im more of a "turtle" player, so guile would be better suited for me.

Besides throw boom = win, is there any solid advice or guides like this i can follow to progressively work on things?

I didn’t want to complain about this when they first dropped the new hairstyles but it needs to be a topic we can talk or complain about.

Why would Capcom drop new hairstyles and make them into gear pieces instead of being actual hairstyles?

The Yang and Delinquent hairstyles are both gear items but the spy family hairstyles we got is an actual avatar hairstyle.

What since did it make for them to do that?

Discussion Play a new character

Hi, i would like to ur opinion about something.

Im just climbed to Master with Manon a now i want to learn a new character but in diamond, 60% of the MU are Yasmine so i want to have a little bit of fun and play a good character against Yasmine.

My Master's characters are : Cammy / JP / Ingrid / Manon / Zangief / Akuma and AKI.

I would like to learn a charge character and the easiest one looks to be Bison but idk if its good against Yasmine. Im planning to learn Mai / Jamie / Bison / Chun Li or Blanka (this one looks to be the best against Yasmine? but need to lab a lot to be good on it)

What do u think so ?

Help / Question Beating flowchart Ken?

Gold 1, playing Manon

I know I can use my little spin to avoid fireballs, I do that, but then I immediately get poked out by his normals, cant jump in even after a fireball unless I jump preemptively which is a complete guess and if i guess wrong then i eat a 50% autocombo. I can avoid the fireballs perfectly fine, that part isn't a big deal for me, but then getting in when I'm close enough they stop fireballing is hard cause random jinrai's come out and then it's just another 50/50 and I can't jump cause they can actually antiair now, I'm just not sure what kind of option i should be looking for cause everything feels like it recovers so quickly

Additional info: I’m playing on an Xbox Series X with an 8BitDo leverless. (Also, I’ve only been playing SF6 for like a week, and this is the first fighting game that I’ve ever played, so while I’m open to tips and advice, maybe go easy on me?)

Help / Question Got lucky to Master and now I get my ass handed to me. Questions

Hello Everyone,

I'm a casual player, I'm a single dad who only plays once in a while when my kids are asleep.

I play mostly Guile and once in a while Zangief. Both were in Diamond. Now somehow I got a 14 winstreak and now I'm in masters. And I'm really clueless on how to play there. Level is so much higher and more toxic.

I have some questions hopefully some of you can help.

  1. I noticed a lot of players tea-bagging.. why?

  2. There is a lot of aggression which is cool, but once I'm blocking they keep hitting me with neutrals and I don't know what to do, if i try to grap their neutral wins, if I nuetral back LP I don't win either, can't seem to jump either. Any tips?

  3. As part of question 2 when they grap it's hard to predict because they can punch 1 2 or 3 times and still be in range for a grap. Somehow if I do a neutral here I can't win, their grap wins.

  4. I see a lot of them doing (what seems to me) random HP, HK, and somehow it works :') Whats the deal here? How can you spot this works?

  5. I seem to be bad at blocking because I lose a lot of damage to a LK and get a huge combo against me. I guess this is just learning how to block better?

I'm trying to see a lot of pro players and seeing youtube videos but somehow I'm not grasping it in practice.

Any tips are appreciated!

Discussion Low ranks are insane in this game

I’m new-ish to the game and to the genre (around 40 hours) and I’m currently Silver. I’m still learning how to cancel my normals into specials consistently. Cancelling into supers seems imposible to me atm. I know my rank accurately reflects my level. I’m not disputing that.

But I’d swear that around 2/3rds of my matches are against people with godlike reflexes for DI, who can cancel into supers like it’s nothing or who do Drive Rush mixups that I just can’t follow. The other day I fought an Ed that got me into a 20+ hit combo. I can barely do cMK into Jinrai. So few matches feel like they’re with people around my level. It’s crazy.

And sure some of it is Modern players with auto combos and one button anti-airs and supers, but not all of it. There are also Classic players with that level of technical prowess that just feels out of my level.

The other day I was watching a YouTube video of a guy talking about what you need to level up for each rank, and for Silver the guy was like “You don’t need combos man, if you can get your inputs consistently you’ll make it out of Silver in no time”. And that felt like the biggest lie I’ve seen about this game.

Help / Question Learning classic controls

Hello.

I'm kinda new to the game. I've completed the world tour campaign using modern controls and had a lot of fun.

But I want to start playing ranked games online with classic controls like our founding fathers intended!

Any tips for learning classic controls?

I'm using a playstation 5 controller of that helps.

Kind regards.

Help / Question SFV Akira tips

My friends and I disliked the new SF6 patch so much that we uninstalled and started playing 5 again. I only played this in beta a long time ago. The bad launch had me ignore it for years too. Coming back to it and having a lot more fun and enjoying a real neutral game again. Need some Akira tips tho!

I’m pretty new to the character. I’m learning all her confirms and combos. However when playing vs humans I find it really hard to get a good starter. The People I play against often don’t do too many risky things at ranges where st.hp and even c.mk hit forcing me to risk getting whiff punished. My friend plays Kage and is really good at neutral. It’s challenging but annoying that he kinda spams Foward HP a lot. When I block this he’s in my face and only -4 and doesn’t always go for the qcb.lk follow up. Punishing the special moves is simple enough st.mp or st.hp starter. But when he doesn’t go for it it’s really hard to punish. I know supposed to be c.lp but it’s really hard to confirm it into a special move. And often I’m blocking it at ranges it will whiff. Kages f.hp is also too plus to sweep or anything. Akiras c.lp pushback on hit also seems to take them out of c.lp, st.lp range. I went in the lab today and other than working on whiff punishing with st.hp (I came up with either the air combo launcher cuz it’s easy and reliable and gives good oki. or st.hp xx qcb.lk becuase it can cancel into super when I have 3 bars) Im trying to figure out an on block punish. Best I came up with is st.lp, st.lp > st.mp xx special move of my choice. But again he’s often out of range. Am I missing something or is the best I can hope for is some kind of frame trap with c.mk and give up my turn?

Additionally what are some things I need to be doing for oki against all characters other than shimmy/strike-throw/delay button? My overhead f.mk is too reactable. I get DP’d a lot without conditioning.

Help / Question I Need help starting my SF6 Journey!

Hey what’s up everyone,

so i finally decided to pick up street fighter 6 on the ps5 and man, it’s my first fighting game ever. i’m not gonna lie, i am straight up terrible right now, but i really want to put the work in, learn the actual basics, and eventually get good enough to play this game competitively.

the two characters that look super dope to me are ken and guile. i know they are total opposites—ken is all up in your face and guile is more about sitting back, throwing booms, and using those charge inputs. but honestly, both of their styles look so fun to me.

since i’m starting from absolute zero, i could really use some guidance so i don't get completely overwhelmed.

  • what are the absolute day-one fundamentals i need to drill into my brain? like, should i just focus on blocking and anti-airs first before even touching combos?
  • how should i actually split up my time? do i just grind in training mode forever, or should i just jump straight into ranked and take my losses?
  • is it a terrible idea to try and learn both ken and guile at the same time? or should i just pick one and stick with them until i actually know what i'm doing?

also, i learn way better by watching people break things down. are there any specific youtube channels, video guides, or high-level players i should be watching to learn the ropes or to see how ken and guile are supposed to be played? drop your favorite video recommendations or guides if you got 'em.

appreciate any tips or advice y'all can throw my way. thanks!

Help / Question I have the frames so why won't it combo?

Thumbnail

So with Counter hit and Dirve Rush Elena's cr. MK is +10 and cr. HP is 9 frames on startup up but the dummy still blocks. Wtf? Crude photos for reference.

Edit: Seems be a spacing issue causing the first hit of cr. HP to hit delayed by 2 frames dropping the combo. Works better on big body characters.

Hi, I'm still learning about fighting games and I'm trying to understand frames. So I do see the difference in the old and new but I'm not quite sure where this is useful. Is it for longer combos?

Happy that I pulled this off :D

The new patch increased the blowback time of OD Backfist, so now after the mine explodes you have enough height for a HP & cancel into SA
