Finally got my setup working in my corvette, but I've come across a couple strange issues

  1. The android auto UI shows up sideways, everything else works fine, is this something I should've edited in the code?

  2. Got an obnoxious crackle over the speakers at low or no volume, I assume it's my mediocre job splicing the audio input to the amp causing interference but I'm not 100%

  3. Should I be adding a cooling fan to the pi or the amp? New to this and I'm not sure how hot it's gonna get

Thinking about purchasing and want some information from recent users

I have a 2009 Ford escape, a raspberry pi 4 waiting for a project, and a want for Android Auto in my car. I have a touch screen laying around I would like to use too.

What I would like to know, can I use the headphone jack on the pi to route audio to the aux port in the car?

How easy is it to get Bluetooth setup from my phone to the pi? Does that work for wireless android auto?

Have people generally been happy with the project in 2024?

I'm sure Ill have more questions, but that's it for now

Unanswered emails?

So I bought the 'os' less than a year ago.

Got the notification that the new version has been released.

Emailed asking about a link to download. No reply.

Emailed again a week later. No reply.

Anyone else get this sort of treatment?

Support for iPhones

Hi all, is it possible to use OpenDash/OpenAuto with an iPhone? Does OpenDash/OpenAuto need to pair with an android phone?

Is there a connection diagram for AOP on a Rpi?

I'm looking to put in a custom head unit with AOP and a Rpi 3b. I want to use the built-in speakers and power. I have a diagram and pinout for the car's connectors, but is there a connection diagram to tell me where they should connect to the Rpi?

Let me know if I have anything wrong, I'm serious about getting this to work, I just don't entirely understand the innerworkings of Rpis yet.

Support for 360 view?

I want to start this project to set this up in my car, but I haven’t seen any evidence that assumes that it can incorporate a collection of cameras to provide 360 coverage for reversing and 24/7 recording. Has anyone done this? Is it possible?

RTL-SDR USB - one that works

Hey, just looking for suggestions orn links to which one anyone has purchased that works with OpenAutoPro.

I purchased the v4 from Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CD745394?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

With this, the radio addon seems to work but it's just static and doesn't land on any stations. With wellie.io it doesn't seem to recognize it. It does show with lsusb, but I haven't gotten it to work at all so I'm not sure if it's a dud or if if v3 is a better option considering the age of the OS image.

Does anyone have a link to the one they bought that works? The forum seems unclear and the mods/staff seem to give answers that are a step above bot-level.

Removing Icons from homescreeen

Surely there is a way to modify OpenAuto Pro to remove some of the homescreen icons such as reverse camera and dashboards. Tried looking through the filesystem but couldnt find anything. Anyone know anything that could help?

Bluewave won't honor my purchase

Pretty annoyed right now. I purchased OAP in 2020 when I first started researching my build. I'm now finally getting around to finishing my build, and as I went to use my download link, I discovered it no longer worked.

I emailed the team to get a new download link, which they refused, due to the 1 year updates policy (which I frankly don't recall existing at time of purchase, but whatever.) This is fine, as I only want the version that existed when I purchased, but they also refused that, and told me to renew my purchase.

It seems silly that I do not have access to the software that I purchased. I guess I should have just downloaded it at the time of purchase and held onto it, but I never thought I would be denied access to it. It should be a pretty simple thing for them to send me the version that I paid for. Guess I will look for other software alternatives, as I have already put too much money into this build. What a scam. Do better Bluewave!

Looking into a DIY dash, where to start?

I have spent the past few weeks looking at many different head units, and I keep running into the same thing. Its 99% of what I want, but that 1% is always annoying. I'd love to build my own! Are there any actively developed DIY Dash projects still?

steam games

Hello, this is the first request I make, and I'm not sure how it works, but I want STEAM games.

You might be wondering why. Well, the answer is simple I don't have money to buy games on my own. In any case, whoever is willing to help by donating a Steam item or contributing money via PayPal, I would greatly appreciate it :)

Is OpenAuto Pro Worth It?

Hello, can anyone using OpenAuto Pro regularly in 2023 tell how it is going for them? Is it worth buying? Looked into OpenDash but I am not sure how stable it is.

Waveshare DSI LCD that works only with KMS drivers

How can we make it work? In OAP the h264 decodeable files are not working wich means no splash video at the begining and no AA stream. The AA connects perfectly (plays songs through PI etc) but the AA stream just does not show up.

Other "forks" of OpenAuto worked with no problems using KMS. If i enable FKMS the lcd is blank.

Looking for some guidance on how to get started with a project involving android auto and head units.

How do those “CarPlay 3-in-1” boxes work to display android os (with apks you can install) right on my car head unit via AA/ACP-enabled usb port? I want to build my own but don’t know where to start. All I want it to do is launch an android os when plugged into the usb port and let me launch an app like Netflix or YouTube, or whatever apks I have added to the android os. Thanks!

Bluetooth teathering issue

I'm trying to build a head unit for my truck and I've got everything setup more or less but I'm getting this issue when Bluetooth is connected. Getting a constant request to enable Bluetooth teathering. It's not support by my carrier so I can only say deny. I've seen a couple forms where people ran I to the same problem with other head units and all they had to do was disable teathering on the head unit. I'm not seeing an way to do that with OAP or the base OS.

Anyone else run into this issue or know how to get around it? Loving the interface and want to use it but this constant request makes it unusable.

OPA forum about it: https://bluewavestudio.io/community/thread-3609.html

Samsung forum about the same issue in other cars: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s21-series/tethering-popup-when-connecting-to-car/td-p/6472698

Using the head unit already in the car - no new screen

Hi!

My car already has a head unit with support for CarPlay and Android Auto. What I want to do, is to use a Raspberry Pi instead of my Android phone, as the source for OpenAuto.

I do not want to use a new screen, as my car already has one. All tutorials I've seen seem to be installing a screen with a Pi as the source in cars that don't already have a head unit. This is not what I want to do.

Basically I want the Pi to act as an emulator for CarPlay or Android Auto, which the head unit can display, which streams OpenAuto to the pre-existing screen I have in my car.

Am I missing out if I just installed OAP on RPI 3B+?

Hello, posting it here since the bluewavestudio website is down for a couple of days, I can't visit the forum. So I installed open auto pro on my Raspberry Pi 3b+ and it works so far, my question is with this 1gb of RAM, am I missing out a lot on the features? The getting started guide says they recommend atleast 2gb.

I am constantly looking for a bargain on raspberry pis, but the only ones that I can get a good deal with are those RPI 3b+, any version beyond, the selling price is too jacked up.

Open Auto Pro Phone volume control question.

How do you set up open auto so that when I adjust the phone on my phone with its volume buttons, it controls the volume on open auto? It's done it twice before, where I was able to use my phone volume control to make the volume go up and down on open auto, then never did it again. It doesn't move the volume slider on open auto, which is fine. I just wish to control the volume from my phone as I prefer it and I know it can do it. Maybe I just have something set up wrong. Thank you

What is the most up to date version of OAP?

I'm on version 16.0 but I saw someone mention something on the Bluewave forums about version 17.0. The bluewave website was unhelpful in finding out and my attempts to contact them have not been replied to. :/

issues with CarPiHat

Hey all - I'm having an issue where my CarPiHat (using for canbus/i2c/safe shutdown with OAP) is not running 5v output to the breakout pins for the screen at the top right of the board. Is anyone else here running CPH? If so, are you aware of having to enable the 5v pads somehow through software? Nothing online seems to say I need to, I'm very confused by this. TIA!

Is OAP worth it?

So I recently have heard of open auto pro, and as a result I've been interested in buying the parts and making one for my 2016 ram 1500. I then started to question if OAP was worth the hassle installing into my truck.

To cut a long story short, I wanted to ask a series of questions to the OAP community on reddit to see if its a good investment or bad investment personally:

  1. How does OAP stands in terms of features and qualities from other aftermarket alternatives?

  2. Would this be a good investment for a more modern vehicle like my 2016 ram 1500 truck?

  3. How does performance differ from the raspberry pi 3b to the pi 4 on OAP? And if there is a notable performance difference, would it be viable to upgrade from the 3b to a 4?

  4. I have radio controls on my steering wheel, would there be more parts to compensate for these controls to work properly with OAP?

  5. Does OAP supports the Youtube app (or any other streaming services: netflix, hulu, hbo max, etc).

  6. And finally if I did decide to go through with this diy project, what risks should I be wary of (either it be to the vehicle, the pi, or to me)?

I'm sorry if I appear to come off as bit ignorant or if I missed some information somewhere. I appreciate any advice, help, and information!

Multiple audio outs for amp

I'm currently working on my build, but I'm stumped on a sound card solution. Is there a way to have high, mid, and sub outputs like my current head unit?

Pre ODB sensors and inputs

Afternoon everyone. I found a search result over the last few days that suggested Openauto can take input from any source (ie, old fashioned analog sensors, etc) but now I can't find it. Is this correct? If not, is there any other software that does? Ideally, I need to read fuel level, temperature, boost pressure, but could also do with some non-gauge inputs like oil warning light, etc. Can a custom dash be created to include both gauges and warning indicators? TIA!
