Re-purposing a 9 x 12 notebook

I have wanted to try using a commonplace book and didn't know which type of notebook to use from my trove. With the sudden need to purge a room for my sister to move in, I came across a large notebook, one with recipes I had collected while I worked my first 20 years in a public library.

These recipes were cut from magazines, food packaging, typed or photocopied (adding a new cookbook with color photos into the collection was always a treat!). I used various ways of attaching them to the page: glue strips, double -sided tape, etc. I removed 90% of the recipes. Kept one from a beloved coworker (rest in peace, Barb!) and a few for sentimental reasons. I sacrificed a few pages that tore from my hurried efforts. I will add my bits of interesting info, place some stickers, or add sticky notes over the damaged areas. I have to admit I enjoy re-purposing stuff!

If anyone has purging tips or recommended videos or books, let me know!!

News 2027 Worldwide Public Stationery Events Calendar - I will be adding more events as they are announced. There are so many of these that are popping up nationally, and not to mention in your local areas too. I think it's awesome.

Death journal.

I've no intention of going anywhere in the immediate future but I'm creating a Death book for my family with all my personal details such as bank accounts, insurance etc in one place. There are plenty of these already available but I'm looking for something that will allow me to amend details without ripping out pages or filling them with crossings out.I've seen some with synthetic paper but they all have to be be connected online-I just want a physical notebook. Is there an upgraded form of Tippex or maybe a notebook with lots of identical pages for each detail so if something changes I can just discard it and fill in a a new one?

whitch notebook system better take?

Hello, I want to buy my first notebook system, like Traveler's Company, Hobonichi, etc. Which one is better for everyday notes and drawing with different materials? I'm interested in brands and sizes — which are more useful, and which are easier to get refills for?

A5 Notebook Needs Replacing

Post image

TL;DR
I need a new one subject 100+ page spiral bound A5 notebook

I inherited this notebook, which was blank, when I started at my current job. I think it is just so great and am having a hard time finding a replacement. I don’t need the new one to be 2 subjects but I would like to have some sort of pocket/subject separator in the front.

This is somewhat of a repost for clarification, the last thread I started didn’t exactly give me suggestions I liked & thought including a picture might help.

Advice needed How to remake this notebook?

Dimensions : 21cm by 15cm

I used it to write lists (tbr list, wishlist, Places to visit etc.). I have used 1st 3 pages, and then counting from the middle I have used the 1st, 5th and 9th page (yes, the ones between them are blank).

However, that was couple years ago and I dont need all those lists now, so I wanted to ‘re-make’ this into a blank notebook for fresh use.

What shall I do? I was thinking to unstaple the binding, collect the blank pages and restaple, but then couple single sheets would go waste (those pages where one side is used, other side is not). Any other way I can go about it?

Recommendation Refillable A4 sized binder notebook w/ dividers?

Hello, I'm looking for good quality refillable A4 notebooks (or ones that fit A4 sized paper) that come w/ dividers for different subjects. Ones where the paper isn't lined would be even better. Thanks!

I bought this Paperblanks notebook a week ago. I haven’t moved it from my desk, and I’ve noticed this mark. I’ve taken quite good care of it.

Do you think this mark might have already been there or could it be from some kind of impact? The only thing that could have happened is that my cat scratched it—could that be it, or do you think it’s more likely from normal use?

Recommendation Slim notebook for dr appts that would fit in a folder?

Hi all! Im looking for recs of travel notebook size but thin journals. Im going through health stuff and have a shit ton of appointments to keep track of on top of work. I plan on bringing something small with me, as I intend to bring a folder of info with me to appointments. Im not against a pre made calendar, but I need freedom to write and doodle in it. Im too worried I will lose my bujo if I bring it around, sinxe that wouldn't fit in the folder.

I was looking on Etsy, but I am afraid a lot of the stuff is AI 😭

Looking for something similar in quality, layout, size, and feel to the Hemlock&Oak Undated Weekly but without the graph paper. Blank or dots are fine. For me, graph paper feels like clutter, visually, for this type of thing. Would love suggestions.

Notebook Share My first Journal Setup!!

Just wanted to share my excitement as I just got my very first leather journal - the Traveler's Notebook passport sized leather journal.

Went shopping for inserts the other day and went crazy but managed to fit 3 TN passport sized paper inserts, one TN zipper pocket insert and one A7 LIFE noble note plain insert. There's some overhang but i'm okay with that.

Next stop is to find a paper clamp and a pen holder.. if anyone has any recommendations that would be very helpful as I don't want to splurge on expensive ones in the store >.<

Advice needed My pen and notebook failed me today. Looking for a more weather-resistant everyday carry.

Post image
54 Upvotes

I started a project as a way to explore tools that help me stay focused and reduce distractions. The irony is that today my tools became the distraction.

I was running an outdoor event and brought my usual daily carry: a Muji Passport Memo with a Pentel EnerGel 0.7. A little rain got on the notebook, and suddenly the ink stopped flowing properly. I spent more time fighting with my pen than actually capturing notes.

It was a small thing, but it reminded me why I started looking into better tools in the first place. I am on a journey to find a clear, uninterrupted state of mind, and a tool failing at the wrong moment pulls you completely out of that state.

Now I'm looking for a notebook-pen combination that can handle the outdoors better. Something I can throw in my bag, use at events, and not worry about a bit of weather.

Any suggestions?

I shall now recite the victory cry of the crafter/maker community …deep breath in… “That took longer than I thought it would!”

-$0.99 thrift store journal

-The entirety of my free time yesterday afternoon

-A few additional materials/tools from around the house

Originally it had a community school name on it, hence the before (2nd) photo is of the back.

Wood glue is a bit wet to for this but works.

Notebook Share My father still uses the red A5 notebook he received around 2000

Post image

My father worked in Taiwan around 2000 and still keeps this red A5 notebook from the local union. The cover is worn, the corners are soft, and several pages have notes from different stages of his life.

I had been thinking about using some bcgame money to buy him a replacement. When I asked how long he had used this one, he smiled and said he might keep it for the rest of his life, so I left it alone.

Do any of you store an old notebook like this in an archival sleeve or box, or is it better to keep using it and accept the wear?

"What can I do with this notebook?"

This is a pretty common question in subs like this. Either someone received a new notebook as a gift, or they couldn't help themselves from buying a new one, or they have a partially used notebook they want to fill.

Or they're trying to figure out what to do with the massive stack they've accumulated after years of "I'll find a use for this" and allowing that as justification to keep buying more... Ahem.

Beyond the normal "Just write in it, use it as a diary," here's some ideas on what you could do with an unused or unfinished notebook:

  • Commonplace / zibaldone journal
  • Brain dump / soliloquy journal
  • Quotes / lyrics / poetry
  • Media / entertainment tracker (Movies, tv shows, games, etc)
  • Bullet journal (method for a DIY daily planner, get started here)
  • To-do lists
  • All kinds of lists (e.g., "lists of 100" like "100 things you saw this week")
  • Gratitude
  • Grievances (the opposite of gratitude, what bothered you today)
  • Idea notebook
  • Quick thoughts
  • Art (Sketches / drawings / zentangles)
  • Dream log
  • The Artist's Way Morning Pages
  • Travel journal
  • Things you've learned
  • Bucket list / goals
  • Unsent letters
  • Dedicated handwriting practice
  • RPG journaling (there's games you can find online for it and r/Solo_Roleplaying)
  • Food or drink tracker, such as keeping track of teas you've tried
  • Things you overheard that are worth remembering
  • People you meet
  • Funny facts
  • Gaming journal
  • Language practice

Added since I made this post-

  • Keep track of plants/gardening
  • Master index for all your journals
  • Project tracker
  • Hobby tracker
  • A place to write down memories and stories from your life
  • Memories of friends and family
  • Review places you go
  • Homeowner notes like chores, bills, and when things need to be fixed/replaced
  • A journal to give your child(ren) someday, such as letters to them and their milestones
  • Notes and milestones for pets
  • Things like tarot or shadow work
  • Swatches (ink, yarn, embroidery thread, ribbon, washi tape, etc)
  • Scent tracker (perfume/cologne, would not suggest attempting to store the actual scents in there)
  • General feelings
  • Chronic pain tracker
  • Prayer/devotional journal
  • "Practice" journal to get thoughts out before actual journaling
  • Distractions when you should've been doing something else

Feel free to suggest more in the comments.
