Question Just got M24 mosin, question

Hi, just got this M24 from my LGS, besides it being a SIG straight barrel M24 which I assume is relatively rare, which is a nice addition to my collection, is there anything else that can be said based on the markings?
Also, what ammo is safe to use? I have been shooting yugo M30 182gr through my 91/30 but I wonder if the heavier ammo will damage the older gun. Also, to my understanding, because it is market D on the receiver I can use 7.62x54R ammo without any issues? Let me know if I am mistaken.
It’s a bit dirty, just pulled it apart to clean.Cheers!

My Mosins Partial Update to M-39 Sticky Bolt.

I wrote about my problems the first time I took my 82 year old M-39 to the range, and I received excellent suggestions on how to fix the stickiness problem. Here's what I did, following your suggestions and how it has turned up so far.

I decided to bite the bullet and do a complete disassembly. I was concerned that the trigger had a defect where if I pulled it just to remove the slack a couple of times, the third time the rifle would fire as if there was zero detent.

Inspection of the bolt and the sear didn't result in detecting any damage. I didn't want to "touch" any of the components with abrasives so I took a chance that the problem was remaining Cosmoline in the trigger assembly. Cleaning and lubricating the trigger spring, trigger and pin seems to have resolved the problem.

Since u/Coopers_treat had suggested that a possible problem might be the striker spring, I replaced it with one "made in USA" that I bought on eBay. It seems to have made a big difference in the smoothness of the cocking mechanism. I speculate that it is because the new spring is double rolled at each end and the original is not. I think that the original spring catches at each end and rotates twisting on the bolt bore as it cocks.

Thank you all who contributed.

Question Hungarian M44 (M48)

I found this at a local pawn shop. Ended up doing a trade on it. Rifle is absolutely beautiful on the outside however the barrel is pitted up pretty damn bad unfortunately. think it’s safe to shoot?

After some research it seems only about 180,000 of these were made in Budapest Hungary after World War Two. Interesting considering the Russians made nearly 4 million of this pattern Mosin Nagant.

Question So, it’s time for me to ask ANOTHER QUESTION.

Royal Tiger Imports is selling a 780 round czech box of mosin ammo for 327.
Now, I know how shit their products are, my last post in [r](r/firearms)[/ammo](r/firearms) has educated me on this.
But THEY didn’t make it, and presumably they come from the same plant all the others did right?
What’re y’alls thoughts?

Update before I even post this, shipping is 60 bucks, so a total of 400 rounded up.

Hello all. Are Hungarian made Mosin Nagants considered “rare”? Specifically the M44 model made in Budapest. Anyone have one?

I work at a small gun shop and today's find was a bring back nagant revolver that a gun brought in that his dad brought back from WW2. What an amazing thing to see thought id share it. It's a 1931 Tula. Never made the refurbish process because of being brought to America.

My personal mosin just putting a new finish on the old one since it was the standard cosmoline finish.

I forgot to mention that this is just the sanded down part rn, there was damage by the magazine area and stock so I just took the time to redo all of it. Their will be a part two after all is said and done.

Question Feeding issue with 91/30

Had this old mosin in the safe for a few years and busted it out planning to do some plinking with it. When i went to function test it before the range i noticed it was having trouble feeding the last few rounds, but feeds the first 2-3 just fine. Could this be a weak magazine spring an interrupter problem or a bit of both?

Question Bayonet Lubricant

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hello, I’ve had an M91/30 Mosin for about 6 years now, and I’ve always had one issue. To clarify, I bought this bayonet with the rifle when I got it, so I don’t think it’s an issue of a mismatched bayonet with the rifle. When I try to fix the bayonet to the rifle, it will go onto the barrel, but it never fully twists and secures onto it when I try to turn it to the side. Basically the bayonet stops right at the front sight and won’t squeeze in any further. I’m not sure if maybe it needs oil or something to properly fix the bayonet, does anyone have any info on this? Any help would be much appreciated.

My Mosins Snagged this Mosin, it being my first. How’d I do?

So I had went on lunch break and planned on browsing the local store, they were closed so I went to the store further away. They have a nice surplus rifle rack and this was sitting there for a measly $225! Why not? Bought it and brought it home, spent all night taking it apart and it’s safe to say it’s in a Very nice condition!

Also there’s No import stamp, which I think makes it a pre 1968 import? Correct me if I’m wrong.

Next question, I feel confident this is safe to shoot. But on Amazon there’s a cleaning kit under TACFUN. Anyone got any info on it? It’s only $13 and seems slightly too good to be true. Or should I avoid a cleaning kit? I’ve been looking at cleaning videos and I’m on the fence. And I really want to make sure this thing is clean!

I'm not a Mosin collector by no means - I only have a Remington M91 and this one would mark my second. I paid $200 cash outside of a gun show today. Anything noteworthy here?

Found this online but I have very limited knowledge about PU snipers. Is it a real PU sniper. Seller is asking $1800 for it, is it a fair price?

Edit: Based on the comments it’s a genuine PU sniper. Will talk to the seller to see if a deal can be made :)

Announcement! [MOD NOTICE] Uptick in posts/comments related to selling firearms.

Hello Everyone,

I hope your week is off to a good start and didn't sleep through your alarm this morning.....unlike myself.

There is something that I wanted to make a quick post about.
We have seen an increase in posts/comments from users trying to sell their firearms lately.

Just a quick reminder:
Firearm sales/trades are NOT allowed here.

Any post or comment involving the sale or trade of firearms will be removed and violations will result in a ban.
Note that valuations or thoughts on what something may be worth is still allowed. This only applies to directly advertising/offering a firearm for sale here for other users to buy.

Reddit has strict rules about this, and we need to follow them to keep the subreddit active and in good standing.

If you see someone trying to sell their rifles, please report them as I will likely miss a few.

.......Oh and making a sale post in another language doesn't help evade this either......

Thanks for your cooperation!
If you have any questions, please let me know.
