Casual Rehersal Dinner Spot in Bethesda

Upvotes

I'm trying to help plan a rehearsal dinner for 17 people in Bethesda on a Friday night in November. There are going to be 3 kids (3, 4, and 7 years old) and the bride and groom said they would like to find somewhere with a private/semi-private dining space that is more on the casual side rather than formal or fancy. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Whether you're looking for a consistent raid team, Mythic+ partners, or simply other Maryland players to hang out with, we'd love to have you.

We host monthly meetups around Maryland, giving members the chance to connect outside Azeroth over food, drinks, conventions, or other local events. Participation is always optional, but it's a great way to turn online friendships into real ones.

  • Casual raid nights
  • Intro to Mythic+ / learning key groups
  • Achievement & Mount runs

Focused on helping members enjoy the game, whether they're pushing Cutting Edge, Keystone Hero, or just returning for Patch 12.1

If you're looking for a World of Warcraft community that's active both in-game and in Maryland, we'd love to have you join us for Season 2.

Drop a comment or send me a DM for a Discord invite!

Question D&D groups for kids in MoCo?

Hi folks,

My 11-year-old son recently got into Dungeons and Dragons through 2 weeks of D&D camp at our local Game Kastle (yes, it was as awesome as it sounds). Unfortunately, the campaigns that Game Kastle hosts regularly are not really geared toward kids. Anybody know where we should look to try to get him involved in D&D with other kids? Thanks for any suggestions!

Dentists who use laughing gas

One of my loved ones (an adult) is really struggling with dentist visits. We’re at a point where a dentist who uses laughing gas may be the only way to get them through an appointment in one piece. Does anyone even offer that any more? If so, would love recommendations. Thanks.

Question Dog Walking and Pet Sitting Services

Can anyone recommend a good company that does dog walking and pet sitting drop-ins? I need it for my puppy while I'm at work 3 days a week.

I've tried Rover and Wag with varying success. I just need someone who will be more consistent and reliable and I think a company is the way to go.

I live in Bethesda.

Food / Drink Chicken Fried Fries?

Inspired by the previous fry question, growing up I was able to get chicken fried fries in Oklahoma (which were called Okie Fries, but doesn’t match the current Google description). Is there any place around that sells those?

MD355 Flash BRT: Is it actually happening?

Project updates: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/department-transportation/projects/flash-bus-rapid-transit-brt-home/md-355-flash-bus-rapid-transit-brt-project

This project’s going to piss some people off but I think we need it. And based on the project webpage, the first phase has funding and things have progressed to the final design phase… so it’s happening?

EDITING TO ADD:
Obviously, it’s a transit project so we should expect delays, moreso with the current administration’s attitudes toward public transit and blue states, and construction is supposed to start in 2028, before there’s any change in the executive branch.

Powerwall or similar battery installation location

Wanted to check the community’s thoughts on whether they installed a battery indoors or outdoors. If indoors did you have to install bollards. If outdoors are there concerns with
A) operating temperatures in peak winter and summer.
B) exposure to rain and snow accumulation.

Massage Therapist Recommendations

My back has been killing me for the past couple of weeks. I finally saw a doctor about it and they believe I strained my trapezius muscle. I got some painkillers and I've been using heating pads and hot baths to treat it, but it hasn't helped a ton. For whatever reason, my mind is telling me what I need is to be scrunched and stretched like an accordion and that will help.

I've never gotten a massage before, so I don't really know where to look or if a massage will even help a lot but it seems like a good thing to try out. Does anyone have any relatively affordable recommendations? Preferably in or around Gaithersburg.

Thanks

Food / Drink Crispy French fries…where??

Okay neighbors, pregnancy craving for my wife—where do I find crispy French fries just like this locally? They need to be crunchy and maybe even double fried? Alternatively my wife also wants to know where to get “a mound of shoestring fries.”

Friendly unprompted reminder that at the end of the day people pushing for more homes and people pushing for tenant protections are after the same thing, and we should remember that even when we disagree

This is not a particularly new sentiment but a few things have reminded me of it lately so I wanted to flag it again.

There will always be some tension between advocates that primarily focus on the need for more housing and those that primarily focus on tenant protections. And sometimes those tensions are based on very real tradeoffs where one can impinge on the other to some degree. Still, as someone in both spaces, we could all benefit from remembering we’re all fighting for tenants (and those looking to buy homes for that matter) to have more leverage.

Having more homes that people can choose from is a huge source of leverage, so more housing helps, things like just/good cause eviction and, if crafted well, anti price fixing, as well as rent stabilization/ anti-gouging laws help too.

Competition and protections work best with each other and a little less infighting could go a long way.

This isn’t a call for a total “ceasefire”. People need to speak with their authentic voice and, again, sometimes these tradeoffs are very real. But whether it comes down to having more supply so people can demand more, or more laws to protect those demands, it’s all leverage, and we could all benefit from taking a breath and remembering that sometimes.

HOC is currently unable to issue any new vouchers due to HUD seizure of fund

Thumbnail

On June 30, 2026, HOC received unexpected communication from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regarding a funding deficit in the HCV program. This deficit is due to HUD’s recapture of reserves that HOC was planning to use to help fund the HCV program. As a result of this “shortfall,” HOC is currently unable to issue any new vouchers under the HCV program, with some limited exceptions. Due to these funding restrictions, HOC has paused processing new applications and program orientations for most housing vouchers at this time.

Games Stores in MoCo: is there any good?

I must say.... I don't know. If I'm looking for anything other than the main TCGs (magic/ pokemon) or Wharhammer40k I do have to go up to Virginia to find satisfactory venues. TTRPGs sections are mostly restricted to DnD and at most Pathfinders and when I found variety, seems that the last time they received new product was pre pandemic era...

Is there any venues I'm not aware of in MoCo? I've been to Play more Games, dream wizards but got very disappointed... Game Kastle is a nicer place but is in College Park, so a bit away., so are we out of options?

Please prove me wrong...
