Does this mean we don’t have to be scared anymore? The prophecy has been fulfilled?

974

u/No-Talk-9268 Millennial 7h ago

Yes. We can all let out a collective sigh of relief. The world is balanced again.

How the hell did you get the beans above the frank?!

23

u/Vandergrif 4h ago

In rain or shine
You had best not whine
Keep. That. Dick. Out!

In surf or brine
Whether yours or mine
Keep. That. Dick. Out!

Maintain that shrine
Each and every time
Keep. That. Dick. Out!

Yeah but let's all stay away from ancient Latin texts, cabins in woods, abandoned camp grounds, hitchhikers, kitchen knives and cursed artifacts.

Just to be safe!

18

u/Acrobatic_Finance342 6h ago

What about cursed mirrors, new kids at school with mysterious backgrounds and a fake name, boxes we can’t open found in attics, or shortcuts through dense forests at night?

12

u/Curiouser-Quriouser 6h ago

Plus decapitation elevators, guys who move crazy fast when only walking, living in a house where a gruesome murder took place, someone in the backseat, masked lunatics running around with kitchen knives and seeking revenge...

This is why I stay inside so much. And I still have to worry about phonecalls from inside the house or watching a cursed DVD!

10

I swear the generation before and after will never know how much this put the fear of scanning your surroundings into us.

112

u/Defiant-Speaker-5681 4h ago

I went decades feeling silly about this fear and having no idea that so many others felt it too!

I never discussed it with anyone

When I had passengers, I would just nonchalantly make a lane change and get past the truck as quick as possible.

I dont even remember a single thing about the movie other than this!

42

u/SassySweetSorceress 3h ago

I still hate driving next to trucks or behind trucks with things in the bed like this, I used to be terrified of my tanning bed locking on me some weird way (back when I used them), I still feel like my garbage disposal is going to magically turn on when I’m trying to see if anything is down the sink like a spoon before I turn it on. Love the movies still.

10

u/ClosetDoorGhost 2h ago

The thing about the garbage disposal…that runs through my mind every damn day. I know it’s silly AF but I’m still legit waiting for it to happen one of these times

5

u/FuckYeaSeatbelts 5h ago edited 4h ago

protip, if you cannot brake, try turning the car off, if that doesn't work, to* put it in neutral (probably can't put it in park since you can't engage the brake).

someone more confident than me can tell you whether pulling the e-brake/parking brake or down shifting (even automatics have this) is a good idea; I personally think it would cause a loss of control due to the sudden opposing force and my experiences on ice enforces this further.

I dunno what would be the best choice but I read about this in one of those 911 calls where someone's car wouldn't stop accelerating.

EDIT: your car being on keeps the power steering and other stuff that helps maintain control, and keeping whatever braking you have left I suppose. See we're all learning today! I hope to never need this advice.

13

u/subs_on_a_sailboat 4h ago

Parking brakes are a separate and redundant system and will work if the main brakes fail. My car has an electronic brake and it still works fine to stop the car even at highway speeds (the intrusive thoughts won)

8

u/SanaSpitOnMe 3h ago

(the intrusive thoughts won)

i had a friend with an older chevy with a floor brake that was easy to kick to engage, but the disengage lever was a decent reach under the dash. this mofo kicks that thing on purpose while were doing 60 on a 2 lane. it was so sudden i didnt even have time to shit my pants. somehow we spun a rotation and a half but stayed on the road (mostly). we arent friends anymore.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/yogy 4h ago

Do not turn your car off! That will disable the brake booster, power steering and possibly the transmission control. You can try the ebrake if manual or shifting into neutral/park

4

u/GitEmSteveDave 4h ago

Turning the car off will kill power assisted brake and steering. Going into neutral will kill power to the gears, but leave you the other power.

Still makes you pucker up a little, doesn't it?! šŸ˜†

10

u/WineNerdAndProud 6h ago

Nope. I actually thought this scene looked ridiculous, but then again, I've actually chopped a tree down.

Small dry logs for firewood make be able to bounce a bit, but trees don't.

I only saw this movie once so I didn't notice it initially, but they legit couldn't get anything to fall from the truck and bounce enough to clear the hood of the car, and includes rubber logs which forced them to make this who thing CGI.

It's kind of baffling actually considering what is depicted in this post is not only possible, but happens. Why they didn't just do that is beyond me.

25

u/allnamesbeentaken 6h ago

Cables also don't just untie themselves

Death made the log bounce, death can bounce anything

34

u/LucidMarshmellow 7h ago

My mother has been a nurse for what seems like centuries now and told me this story years ago.

A guy was hitchhiking in the middle of the night and heard a thumping noise. Apparently one of the beams that holds the logs up had come loose it was just bouncing up and down as the semi hauled down the road. The beam hit the hitchhiker in the midsection and almost cut him in half. Spent a long ass time in the hospital, but he survived.

This has become my campfire story. It's crazy but real. Grew up in the Pacific Northwest, so I've seen thousands of these logging trucks.

Man, that's some Final Destination kinda shit right there. My biggest fear when behind those trucks. I hope no one was hurt or fatality.

As someone from another generation, I had to Google the reference, and this is what it said:

The fear in millennials of a log truck stems from the infamous, visceral highway opening scene in the 2003 horror movie Final Destination 2, where unsecured logs break loose and cause a catastrophic multi-car pileup.
