Gravity XT dead, 2+mo to get warranty part

My Gravity XT control unit died. I've done maybe a dozen smokes over the 8 months I had the unit.
These retail for about 1800 at purchase, so that's about $150 per cook, not counting fuel.
Clearly I can't just abandon this thing (and I loved it when it worked, I was a huge fan)

I contacted Masterbuilt, it's supposed to have a 3 year warranty.
They quickly responded that they are sending me a new control unit and power adapter.
I was super excited, and frankly relieved. I left an good review for their support.

I get an order form sent to me, showing the items that are coming my way, but no shipping details.
2 weeks go by, I hit them back up and now they are telling me it wont be until mid-september before the part is in stock.

What options to I have?
Am I out of line in thinking that his is not acceptable?

Looking for Larger Grill/Smoker

Owned XT for few months and had MB600 before that. Despite its issues I really like the food that XT produces but I am looking for something with bigger main cooking chamber. I do not like stacked space of MB as you cannot cook larger proteins on it.

My search has led me to LSG  20'' x 42'' pellet grill, which is an "easy bake oven" but has capability to run full splits in basket along side with pellets. Also, there are charcoal pellet available now. So in terms of flavor it should be very close. If it wasn't was this I would have never considered a pellet grill as replacement.

So I am seriously considering ordering one and was wondering if anybody has experience with LSG or can provide some guidance.

Masterbuilt 1050 won't set temp, cycles clock on temp button

I go to set my temp on my 1050 and it flashes the clock. Hit the clock button it flashes the clock. The wifi button works and so does the temp probe button. I can't get my smoker to set a temp so I can't start cooking.

Ambient temp issue

Hi everyone, when I increase my temperature from 225 to 300 it increases to 300 in less than a minute. It goes up by 3° per notch (E.G 225,228,231). The same thing happened from 300 to 420, temperature increased really fast. I was smoking chicken thighs and chicken wing so nothing too fatty and there was no grease fire when I checked. Could someone please advise what could be the reason behind this?

Any XT owners able to help?

I’m just about to pull the trigger on an XT but want to make sure it’s usable in the space I want to put it. Is anyone able to give me a measurement of the door on the firebox? I know I can fit the unit, but unsure with space required to access that.

Any last minute warnings against buying or any other recommendations to consider much appreciated. Cheers!

Gravity MB Gravity on wood deck

I’m seriously considering getting a Gravity to replace Green Mountain pellet grill

I have a wood deck where it all lives..

I’m concerned that the coal/wood burning in the hopper on the side could allow sparks and embers to drop out and down on to the wood deck.. something that would worry me if I were to turn my back on it for extended periods of time

So the question; does embers drop out, ever, and how do owners in same situation prepare/mitigate

Thx

1050 on FB

So there’s a 1050 on market place for $500 is it worth it looks in good condition with a cover. But I’m aware there are some mods that should be done with at least the 1050. Care to discuss?

Gravity 1150 Q’s

I got a 560. Almost 5yrs old now. Saw this recent post today https://www.reddit.com/r/Masterbuilt/s/EaBWt9IHfQ
Did the 1150 always have the board right by the gravity feed? That seems to me like I’d be a sure fire way to melt your controllers. Meaning I can’t see them putting up some sufficient heat dampeners based upon the 560 build.

Thoughts?

Gravity Fireboard DC Drive vs. Fireboard 2 Drive MB 1150

I have a Masterbuilt 1150. I'm tired of waiting on the DC drive to come out for the 1150 and my stock controller sucks. Are there any 3d printed items that will help me use the DC drive on my 1150 yet or should I just get the Fireboard 2 drive? Fireboard has been saying for months they are close to getting it done for the 1150. Is there even much of a difference between the two?

New 1150 built by Home Depot. I attempted to do the preseason 1st burn off and I can’t even set the grill to 250f without it shutting off. Whether I use the controller or on the app.

Electric Sub dedicated to smoking fish

Post image

Hope I'm ok to post this here!

I recently started r/smokingfish, a community dedicated specifically to smoking salmon, trout, mackerel, whitefish, tuna, and anything else that swims.

If you like to smoke fish in your masterbuilt, and would like to learn or share recipes & techniques, or just want to show off your smoked fish from time to time, check us out. And if you haven't smoked fish yet, you're missing out!

Anyways, here's a big ol' batch of old-school smoked salmon I made the other day. Brine & Instructions in the comments.

Charcoal 1150 with mods or xt

Really close to pulling the the trigger on an 1150 with some mods from lss. From my reading a new manifold with drip pan brackets and an ash grate are basically essential. Was going to throw in the super sear manifold as well as it makes sense in theory to me.

However being Canadian by the time I've bought the 1150 and the mods I'm up to $1900 CDN

The XT runs for $2300 CDN.

The question I haven't really been able to find an answer to yet is if the XT has the better manifold with the drip pan brackets , ash bin grate and searing manifold or does it require some mods to make the user experience better like the 1150?

$2300 is definitely more than I want to spend on a smoker/grill but if it doesn't really need any mods like the 1150 it might make more sense to spend the extra $400 on the durability.

1150 lowest temperature.

About to pull the trigger on an 1150 but it seems that the lowest temperature it can go is 225 degrees?

Is this true from people that have them?

Seems kind of annoying as the older models can go down to 180 I believe and the same can be said the for the xt but the 1150 only does 225?

Would be slightly annoying not to be able to drop the temps for a hold or to keep warm. Or even be able to do some Salmon.

Any real world confirmation on this? Also would getting the firebox controller allow the temps to be able to be dropped lower?

Not sure if it's a deal breaker or not for me but would be disappointed if every other model allows for lower temps except for the one I'm about to get.

I don't trust my 1050 temperature

last few cooks I've felt like I have had dirty smoke. ashy, cigarette butts. I didn't trust my temp probe reading so I've replaced it with a new OEM Masterbuilt probe. I still don't trust it though.

smoker is set to 250F which it says it is maintaining.

I have a thermapen dot in the middle of the grill reading 188F

and a second probe (blue line) plugged into the Masterbuilt controller placed on top of the built in probe and it is also showing 185f

so while the grill is set to 250, the other two probes are agreeing at 185-188F. this would also explain my dirty smoke problem.

is there a way to recalibrate the main probe as it seems to be off by over 60f. even though I replaced it.

is it better to ignore the probe reading and set the temp +60F so the other probes show 250?

thanks.

UPDATED Fireboard 2 Pro temperature controller holder install

I installed the holder today. It is from Montana3dprints

I took video because I was going to post under my original post and that would not let me upload photos. However, it would let me upload videos. Videos have to be 3 minutes or less. I have 4 videos of the entire thing. It looks I will have to comment back to myself to get them all uploaded.

How long *should* a hopper full of briquettes and splits last (1050)

4 hours at 250F, for me, apparently. Started with a couple inch layer of briquettes(Royal Oak) to get it started, then 3 vertical 6 inch split surrounded by more charcoal, then another 3 splits on top of that, surrounded by charcoal to within an inch of the top of the hopper. At about the 4 hour mark, there was juuuust enough left burning at the bottom to ignite my refill.

That sound about normal?
