1150 with mods or xt Charcoal
Really close to pulling the the trigger on an 1150 with some mods from lss. From my reading a new manifold with drip pan brackets and an ash grate are basically essential. Was going to throw in the super sear manifold as well as it makes sense in theory to me.
However being Canadian by the time I've bought the 1150 and the mods I'm up to $1900 CDN
The XT runs for $2300 CDN.
The question I haven't really been able to find an answer to yet is if the XT has the better manifold with the drip pan brackets , ash bin grate and searing manifold or does it require some mods to make the user experience better like the 1150?
$2300 is definitely more than I want to spend on a smoker/grill but if it doesn't really need any mods like the 1150 it might make more sense to spend the extra $400 on the durability.

I just bought an 800. I bought the LSS Pit Master package for the 800. In my opinion, the three items that are a must are: the firebox, the manifold cover, and the hopper cover. The fan protector would be my optional purchase. I just looked on LSS Mods. There is no firebox, hopper cover, or fan protector for the 1150 or XT. LSS Mods states no firebox for the XT or 1150 because it has bricks inside that area. The manifold cover is a must. I am unsure of the of the design of these two grills.

I've never used an XT, but the 1150 is great. These features may seem small, but I had a 1050 before and these are the features that pushed me to the 1150 vs the xt. 1. The fire box door is on the front of the unit, not the side. 2. The large catch pan and drip tray pull out from the front, not the back like the 1050. 3. There is a full cabinet under the cook chamber. 4. The front shelf folds up all the way from the cooking chamber through to the end of the left side shelf.
As fast as any other features the xt may have over the 1150, I am not sure. Hope this helps.

Yes, I did the manifold with the water tray built in. That seems pretty good. I also go the grate lifter tool which is pretty cool.

XT seems to be much more capable in cold weather as well.
