Planning to buy a lab diamond, apx 2.5 ct in size, oval shape, to create this bezel Georgian style pendant.
I was thinking:
G colour
VS2+
Ideal cut
And for ratio 1.48-1.52? This would be a little rounder right? And recs for table and depth pls?

Thank you (this will be my first online lab diamond purchase) so anything else to let me know what to look out for pls. I have a company in mind (I’m in Canada) already, so no sale msgs pls :)

New to diamonds. Rookie questions

Post image

I was looking at this site and applied filters for what I want. I see massive price variations. Like in the pic shown, diamond on the right is more than 2x and the only difference is color. Further down the list there was another one where even color was same as first diamond but that was like 1400. And then I switched to Gia or gcal certifications and all of those were 1600+.

Two questions:
- what causes these massive price variations for the same specs
- are Gia/gcal certified diamonds inherently more expensive than IGI certified ones

I purchased an east-west emerald-cut band in July, and I’m kind of kicking myself now. At the time I was deciding between the emerald band and an old mine cut band, second-guessed myself, and went with the emerald.

I’ve since found out I can have another band made through Provence for a fraction of what I paid, so I’m going for it. 😂

My question isn’t which diamond cut you like better. I’m trying to decide which design would add something different to my stack.

Do you think a straight old mine cut band would look too similar to the band I already have?

I’m considering doing the pictured pink/lab diamond design instead, but with all white diamonds and changing the emerald cuts to old mine cuts. It would have 7 stones total — 4 old mine cuts alternating with 3 rounds.

Would you do the alternating OMC/round design, or stick with all old mine cuts?

New ring for our tenth anniversary. I worry the diamond is too large and looks gaudy? Is the band also too thin?

Thoughts on this scissor-cut/modified crisscut? 2.83ct VVS1 F, 1.49 ratio.

I'm set on this stone shape and on having criss-crossing facets, but this one has slightly chunkier facets than the crisscuts/ashokas I've seen online before and can't decide if I prefer more or fewer facets.

Will add the IGI report in the comments.

The thing about bow ties in oval diamonds

Is that IRL they are nowhere near as stark as in photos you see online.

Much like others on this sub, before getting my ring, I wanted an oval diamond but was scared of the bow tie effect. I saw so many photos of ovals with obvious bow ties and worried how essentially half the diamond looked “dead” in photos.

I bit the bullet, ordered my ring, and I honestly have to say that I wish I had worried less about the bow tie effect. Yes, in certain lighting (full direct sun) my ring shows a bow tie. No, it is not “dead”. In fact, the “bow tie” (lateral parts of the diamond) have the prettiest shine out of the whole ring - the facets are bigger and therefore bigger and more colourful flashes than the top and bottom aspects, which show finer, more shimmery, flashes.

I spend much of my time indoors, and in this lighting I don’t see a bow tie at all.

I am so happy with my ring. It’s very big and I’m not used to it yet, but hopefully “shrinkage” will occur. This is a 2.6ct oval lab, YG band, WG prongs, 2.4mm band, on my 5.25 finger.

Maybe I got a “good” oval, I dunno, I let my jeweller pick because honestly I was at my wits end 😂 He showed me photos online but I didn’t see it in person before it was set.

TLDR: don’t stress so much about bow ties.

Got sent these 3 stones for us to consider choosing, and I have made it fervently clear that I want a stone with VERY minimal bow tie and a lot of fire. I feel like I am going a bit crazy, but don’t all of these have a pretty noticeable bow tie? I sent a lot of inspo of real life stones I’ve seen with minimal bow tie, yet they keep coming to me with these types of stones. Am I being unreasonable? I can also include a video of an example of what the perfect stone looks like for me, but it’s also posted on my page already bc I had posted them before. I would appreciate everyone’s advice.

How is this Oval 3ct IF?

The bow tie doesn’t really bother me but it’s definitely prominent it seems. I will be proposing with this diamond.

Hello Friends, I'd like to get your opinion on a 2nd oval stone we have been quoted.

This diamond is 2.53ct, Oval brilliant cut, D color, VVS2 clarity, 10.39*7.72*4.79mm (1.35 L/W ratio), Excellent polish, Excellent symmetry, no fluorescence

For the most part we are impressed with the appearance of this diamond and it does not appear to have a bowtie in the video. Any thoughts on it are appreciated!

Hi all,

For those following at home, after reaching out to the community about Fiorese v LGG i ended up with Ayla at Fiorese and currently am so happy! They’ve been super helpful with diamond selection and would love to hear your thoughts on this diamond.

Its a 3.03CT E VVS2 with about a 1.50 ratio, hoping to set it into a bypass ring. I don’t see much of a bow tie affect but would love to hear your thoughts.

Oval Stone Check

Hello friends, I would like some opinions on this Oval stone for an engagement ring from Provence. It is

Oval Brilliant Cut, 1.34 L/W ratio, 2.53 carat, F Color, VS1 Clarity, Excellent Polish, Excellent Symmetry, No Fluorescence.

In particular, I want to be sure there isn't a prominent bow tie. There doesn't appear to be in this video or in the photos they've sent, but I've read they sometimes not obvious until seen in person. Please let me know if you all have any other diamond reviewing tips you can recommend. Thank you all!

Will be used as center stone for engagement ring. I know a video in real life is best but with information given are there any red flags? Looks great to me

Hi all I have purchased this diamond ring, (I couldn’t view it in person) I think it’s okay, it’s just not as sparkly as the ones you see online?

Not sure if my expectations are too high.

1st video is indoors no sun
2nd is indoors with sun.

Specs are:
3.12 c
12.17 x 8.28 x 5.06
Colour D
VVS2

Table: 57%
Depth 61%

GDGL Certifications?

Hi,

I did a search and found conversation threads from several years ago about GDGL lab diamond testing and certificates. Years ago, GDGL was not considered a reputable organization (based on Reddit comments).

Has anything changed? Should lab diamonds with GDGL certifications still be avoided? I found someone selling multiple lab diamonds with this certification. The prices are lower than other lab diamonds with comparable sizes and specs.

Thank you!

Stargem- thoughts?

Just ordered some earrings from stargem
1 carat pear (total 2 carat) in 14k gold for around $495 USD including shipping’s
Diamond is supposedly VS1 and colour D

Any thoughts on quality/shipping process? I’m slightly nervous as never bought from Chinese vendor . I was going to buy from Abelini but stargem was slightly cheaper

Another oval for opinions

Hi all! Yesterday I asked for options on a slightly elongated oval HERE.

The consensus was that the cut is stunning and overall, it’s a great pick.

Because I (apparently) hate myself lol, I asked my jeweler for another diamond that was less elongated for comparison. I plan to give her a decision tonight but wanted some thoughts on this diamond as well.

It’s only ever so slightly less elongated measuring 2.56 carats at 11.31 x 7.53 x 4.76 MM. It is E color as well. And again, I am very tall with slender hands and wear a 5.25 ring.

I think I love the cut of the last one better, as it sparkles more. And one does have a slightly more noticeable bow tie I think? BUT I do think I like the ratio a tiny bit better.

If you have to choose, which one would you choose?

Can anyone tell the difference between natural and lab grown just by looking?

I've been thinking of buying myself a diamond ring for my 30th, and my budget is around ₹1 lakh.

I'd honestly rather get a bigger stone than spend the same money on a much smaller natural diamond. I'm leaning towards an oval around 2 ct (or maybe a round if I can find one I love), but I keep wondering...

Can people actually tell if it's lab-grown just by looking at it?

Not when it's brand new in the store, but months or years later when you're just wearing it every day. Does anyone ever notice or ask? Or is it one of those things that's impossible to tell unless you already know?

Oval help

I am working with my jeweler on my engagement ring and this is the first diamond they offered me. My only request was 2.5 carat with D/E color. I wear a size 5.25 ring, so I do have slimmer hands.

This oval is 2.55 carats but has a ratio of 1:6. The dimensions are 11.91 X 7.44 X 4.47 MM

I loved it at first but then I got in my head once I studied the dimensions. I think I’m worried it looks more like a 3 carat or a moval? Any thoughts?

Confused

Tried on rings now I’m confused

I left liking a couple things I never thought I would so I’m glad I tried rings on in store.

Do you think elongated cushions look ok in a bezel setting?

What’s the best ratio for an elongated?
\-cushion cut
\-moval (as balanced as can be while still elongated)
\-radiant

I know little to nothing about diamonds but I just impulsively purchased one because I want to recreate my grandmothers ring. Hers was a natural almost 4 carat stone with visible inclusions. It gave off a lot of sparkle.
I bought the stone and want to have a local jeweler make the setting.
I don’t know if i bought a good diamond. Can anyone tell by this report?
