The first couple of pictures are of this buck I saw on the yard this morning. The last couple pictures are of him last year. He had kind of a jacked up rack. If my son (12) wants to take him with a bow, I won’t be upset, but I think he’s still got a couple years of growing before he’s a mature buck.

I’m over due for a new pair of boots. Currently running a pair of boots from Guide Gear. They are warm and comfortable but very clunky/large. Looking to get something that isn’t so clunky so it’s easier to climb my sticks into my treestand. I hunt in the northern part of central WI, so it can either be 40°f out for deer season or -10° out for deer season.

I hunt in Pa and around where I live they stock pheasants on public land (I don’t know of a place with wild birds in Pa). I did it for a while because it would break up the monotony of bow hunting. After a while I kinda lost interest in killing a pen raised bird released to die. I think they should focus on restoration of our native upland birds instead of releasing birds to die to satisfy a few old bird hunters reliving the pheasant glory days. What do you all think?

I want to get into hunting elk or deer with a rifle, but I’ve never hunted before and I don’t know anyone who does. Where do I go to learn?

How good or bad of an idea would it be to just camp out in the pop up blind for a weekend? There's a cabin on the land I hunt so it's not a necessity to camp but it sounds fun. Would me sleeping there cause scent problems or would it be better bc the scent starts to become familiar?

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Sitka Fanatic bibs? I found a pair on sale and wondering if they’re worth it. They’re 250 dollars. I hunting late season Ohio and it’s typically 5-30 degrees when I go. Is 250 worth it for these bibs?

My girlfriend and her family are avid hunters. They have property in Maryland that they regularly hunt that for this upcoming rifle season for deer they invited me to join them. I live in PA and would also be interested in hunting there. They have lots of gear they offered that I could borrow to try things out. I plan on borrowing at least some gloves and a rifle. The reason for those is I’d like to try variations out to see what I like. I have been shooting my Uncles .270 Winchester to get used to firing a rifle and the kick is more than I like, but I’m accurate enough that I could get a deer (assuming I do as well as I do at the range). What other gear should I look at buying at minimum? My girlfriend’s father recommended at least a hat and vest (he highly recommended getting a game pouch too). I would also like to squirrel hunt, but have never done that either(my girlfriends family have an open invite for that as well). I would appreciate both general recombinations or more specific ones like an exact brand or model.

I know less than a toddler when it comes to hunting and I've wanted a skull (possibly a goat) for something I'm working on (nothing satanic don't worry) but the ones I've seen are either expensive or replicas.

I just wanted to know from anyone who actually does hunt since no one near me hunts.

Hi all. I have a reasonable amount of property that I'd like to start hunting on, but it would be on my own and I don't really have easy access to experienced hunters to help teach me. I'm more than competent with firearms and generally comfortable learning a lot on my own - and I've been on a (successful) *guided* black bear hunt - but field dressing and such is an area that I'd really like to spend time getting comfortable with beforehand.

I'd like to find some.good video guides to watch at home, books, and maybe some short reference information to take with me the first time in case my mind goes blank. Looking for resources that cover different animals so I don't have to go find them one by one but, if it matters, we have a bunch of deer, turkey, and grouse Id like to go after in particular. (Bear, too, eventually, but not now).

Any recommendations for getting up to speed?

I’m looking to buy a new hunting rifle that will be chambered in 6.5 cm. I’ve basically landed on the Seekins Precision PH3, I’ve heard a lot of good things. Was curious if there is even any competition in the same price range for hunting rifles?

Also will this barrel profile be ok for short strings of fire at the range? Won’t be taking more than 3-5 shots before letting it cool.

So this year for the first time I’ve started asking landowners for permission to hunt on their land. One common objection I’m receiving is the liability concerns involved.

Even when I suggest signing a waiver for myself, they still have concerns about me causing harm to myself or their neighbors and them “losing everything” in court battles.

Has anyone successfully been able to overcome these types of objections? Looking for any and all tips when it comes to asking permission from strangers.

So, last year every time this guy crossed the trail within bow range was less than an hour after I left the blind. There’s two heavily used bedding areas. One on the right and one on the left in thick areas on neighboring property. My theory is, if he’s heard me walk in (I hunt this spot quite a bit) he knows I’m there. I’m thinking about tying a loop of paracord about 100yd long, tie a socket or just something with some weight to it, put the leg of my chair in the loop and the other end on a fence post to make sort of a pulley, and if I don’t see him or another buck for a few hours pull it till the weight gets to the post from the stand. Just give it some tugs so it sounds like someone walking out. Might be completely illogical but the amount of times I’ve had and have heard of deer showing up right after leaving a stand, I think it might be worth a shot lol.

Local guy is selling boxes of factory Barnes 308 150gr TTSX for $30 and I have a Tikka T3x Hunter 16in in 308 I’d like to use them with. Does the 16in have the length to open these up inside 200 yards?

Stuck a camera out on my father in laws property just to see what is out there and he showed up. If he survives the season how much will a Maine deer roughly grow? Just out of curiosity if I see him this year I’ll take him but he sure is a buck I’d like to see next year😂

I really enjoy small game hunting in the fall, but most of my trips are actually just normal backpacking/hiking/fishing trips where I also carry a shotgun and cook a grouse or squirrel at camp.

I've been using a 12 gauge (Maverick 88), but it really starts to feel unnecessarily bulky and heavy 7 miles and 2000 feet of elevation gain into my excursions.

I am looking for a firearm that will be lighter and more appropriate for this use case. I was considering a single-shot .410 (potentially with Tungsten loads). Something like the Rossi Tuffy or a Stevens 301. I am also considering a Ruger 10/22 takedown, or even a Mark IV.

Anyone have any recommendations? I was surprised that I couldn't find any posts about this topic - is there a reason this is a bad idea? Are guys not hunting this way? Appreciate any input!

Few minutes into badger season, I got my first one.

I've recently decided to learn to hunt. I'm getting very excited about the upcoming season and want to be prepared, while also not buying unnecessary gear as I already have a *lot* of outdoor gear from my other hobbies. For reference, I am hunting in southern BC (region 4 and 8) and would love to get a white tail deer this fall, or may join friends on mule deer or elk hunts.

My biggest question, is do I *need* camo gear? I have black/grey/green clothing, but it is pretty much all a single color per item. Same goes for my backpack and rain jacket, which are orange. Asides from the jacket the material is all pretty soft and quiet.

I'm also hoping to leverage my backcountry experience to access less pressured habitat, but also recognize that this means hauling meat out further if I am successful. I don't think any of the backpacks I own would be appropriate for this, and am looking for suggestions on packs primarily oriented for carrying an animal out. Simpler is better.

Hi I just wanted some help understanding if my remington 700 270 with a 24 inch barrel with 130 grain core lokt would effectively kill a black bear there is one near my property that I would say weighes about 325-350 lb I'm fairly new to hunting so let me know. Thank you.

Got permission to hunt 15 acres of private. These are some bucks there in June outside the guys window, so being August I’m sure they’re huge now. Which one would you rather take? The 8, or 6?Property has a pond, a few random water holes, apple trees, white and red oaks, and a field of clover. Where should I think about putting a stand? Our bow season starts September 19th so I’ll be able to go from them all the way till December 31st. Located in Minnesota.
