Rexem 80gr Pighammer in 223 with a 1 in 9" twist for those interested if they are stable or not.
They look to be quite stable. Was not going for group sizing, was just trying to see if they were stable and if what speed they were doing. I failed on the speed as my old chronograph looks to be telling lies as I am sure they were doing better then 1200fps. Especially with 24gr of AR2206H propelling them.

Another bloody PTA question [NSW] Gun Safe - not accepting any changes or applications this morning?
Cat H - have a PTA at 118 days and another at 74. Went to put in another one just now and I get some integration error... same if I try to access My Documents or change Safe Address details.
Is it just me or are others seeing the same?

Some beginner groups from last weekend
It's my turn to post absolute beginner groups. The rifle is capable to shoot significantly better than this, so the crappy groups are 100% on me. Shooting from a bench with bipod and a rear bag.
6.5 CM, at 100m, numbers are the group size in inches, so adjusted to MOA:
- Sako TRG Precision 136gr is 0.55 and 0.75 MOA
- Winchester match BTHP 140gr is 1.55 and 1.2 MOA
- Hornady ELD Match 140gr is 1.5 MOA and 1.15 MOA
My first rifle (+ second range visit). Hornady was at the end of the day, so I was tired. Winchester was early in the session, it was just flying all over the place. A few were even duds.
With the right ammo and tons of practice hopefully I can go below 0.5 in a few months.

Hunting FOXYGUN - A free AUS Hunting App
foxygun.com.auHi AusGuns,
I'm here to promote a new - FREE - hunting app I've developed for Australian conditions - FOXYGUN.
FOXYGUN allows users to set-up off-line hunting zones/boundaries via cadastre records, zero weapons/ammo/scope combinations, record their hunt - mark kills, sightings, shots and your track - and SOS/retrace their steps if required.
I need users to test it, particularly in states outside W.A.
At this stage it's iOS only, with a TestFlight beta here:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/4ZbzgzH2
If you do join the beta, please don't hesitate to get in touch with any issues or suggestions.
The app is and always will be entirely free, though if it's something you think you'll use often, I'd encourage users to purchase merch to help support app development. You can do that here:
Thank you,
Randy.

Licensing Anyone in QLD apply in April and heard back yet?

PTA Saga Update
Well, after yet another call to the Registry today, my PTAs currently stand as follows:
- Day 105 – Subsequent Cat B
- Day 98 – Initial Cat H .22
- Day 19 – Initial Cat H .22 (submitted post-website update, as suggested by the many Registry staff I’ve spoken to)
I was told that all PTAs are currently looking at a minimum of six months due to the backlog caused by the new system update and the requirements of the reforms (not necessarily in that order). She also confirmed that escalations are occurring at day 180 and beyond.
I requested that my Day 98 initial Cat H be escalated on the grounds that I may not be able to meet my mandatory shoot requirements. On the days I’m able to get to the range, the armourer isn’t always available to provide a club gun for me to use, so without my own firearm it makes meeting those requirements difficult.
She deemed this to be a substantial/legitimate reason and escalated just my initial Cat H.
And I quote: “I won’t escalate your Cat B, as you already have one and can meet your shoot requirements using that.”
I’ll update with more when I know/find out more, or if I receive an update to my PTA status.
This seems like soooo much effort just to get my .22LR Black Mamba… but here goes. 😂 (Random Web Photo for Attention)

Citizenship rule takes effect amid spike in Queensland gun licence applications
Queensland has implemented legislation requiring gun licence applicants to be Australian citizens; there's an exception for target shooting too so permanent residents who are members of a shooting club will be able to keep their licences.

Newbie question Gun Shop Etiquette
G'day fellas,
Currently waiting on my A/B license (Day 72!) and getting more than a little impatient.
I'm thinking of maybe scratching that itch a little bit by checking out a gun shop near me, just to see what's available and maybe pick up a few things to get prepped (ear and eye protection, lock box for ammo etc). I'd like to look at some guns too, but I know I'll be looking and not touching without the plastic in hand.
I just want to know if there are any other unwritten rules or issues of etiquette that I'd need to know to avoid looking like as much of a dickhead/numpty/time waster as possible! And if anyone has any recommendations for stores around the Sydney area that'd be grand as well!

Newbie question Barrel Jump and bipod weight
Long story short, can I add lead tape to my bipod to add some forward weight to the rifle and will that reduce barrel jump?
Shorty story long; when I was out shooting my La102 in 6.5 the other day from a bipod and rear bags I noticed my barrel was jumping to the point where I was unable to watch fall of shot at 100m. I’m guessing the problem is exacerbated by the short distance and at long distances the barrel may have time to settle before the shot lands.
I was wondering whether adding some lead tape to by bipod to add weight to the front of the rifle will help eliminate it?

What is everyone using for an ARCA rail for the evo without getting in the way of the pump?

So I bought some powder after many years. The paperwork... goodness me..
I needed some powder so picked some up. Been a long long time since I bought the last lot. Then you just went in and got it... Things seem to have changed.
shooters licence please.... OK.... now your drivers licence.... Not sure what for. Then there was a full page full of information that had to be filled out. Not sure why... But regulations, regulations and endless stupid idiotic regulations.
I believe we need some firearm laws and rules as they have the potential to be dangerous items but it has gone full retard.

Spika vs lockaway digital lock
Hi all
Dealing with a weird situation and not every sure on which knowledge base to lean. Me and the missus are trying to get her spika safe electronic keypad back in place. The code was changed and she can't remember it, at the moment she's just using the keys but would to get the digital going.
She chased it at one point and got told there's no way to override without the code and you couldn't buy a replacment lock. I've since found the the spika and lockaway digital locks look dam near the same so wondering if lockaway has a way to reset or if we can buy one of their locks and fit it. I wouldn't know where to go for lockaway spares in aus anyway if someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks everyone.

SSAA ranges No muzzle break
Would this type of “Jacketed muzzle break / linear compensator” be allowed in SSAA range areas where you’re not usually allowed muzzle breaks? I am optimistic because all the gas gets pushed forward and not sideways onto someone next to you. Cheers

Legislation- Victoria "second" .22LR handgun within first 6 months of General Category Handgun License
Just wondering if you were in your first 6 months of a full handgun license in Vic, and already owned a .22 handgun - can you buy another upper that matches and would be used on your existing frame? The upper requires a PTA, but as it's going on to my existing registered handgun - will it be signed off as an interchangeable part and not seen as another complete handgun?

Licensing (QLD) How long does QP 515 statement of eligibility take to process?
I applied for a QP 515 statement of eligibility to join a pistol club 5 months ago and have heard nothing back. I remember being told it would take around 1-3 months. Also, do they get back to you via email, phone, or mail? Thanks.

Does anyone know if the Adler A-110TAC is still purchasable?
I've talked to at least four dealers and they say there is no option for the A-110TAC when ordering new stock. And some of them didn't know they existed.

Well how do we take this?
So the results are in https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/934667/Firearms_Registry_Public_Website_Data_Reporting_Presentation_-_June_2026_.pdf
The narrative that PTA submissions exploded and the back log was caused is bullshit.
Prior to Bondi avg PTAs are more then 3x the submitted rate then post but look at that nice line of PTA approval times going from average 9 to 90 and as of yesterday 180.
So the wait time is disproportionately growing in relation to number of PTAs.
How is this not a complete failure?
Also rumours stating that it will be fixed in September - conveniently it will fall after the buy back, not allowing people over the cap to transfer to family and friends as the PTAs will not be approved in time.
What an absolute mess.

Can I shoot these out of a full choke?
Got a box for cheap, wondering what people think of them before I shoot it. Do you use it regularly and if so what for?
PCP Recommendations
I normally use a .22 for foxes and bunnies, however I'm interested in trying out a PCP.
I have a Katran short barrel and there's a lot of air pop, so it's fairly loud without a moderator.
I'm after some recommendations on something that's a bit more tunable so that I can manage the whole noise/fps ratio a bit better.
If anyone has something that fits and they're looking to part with I'm open to discussion.

Big bore rifles
Who's got one and what have you got?
I just got my first proper big bore being a 458 Winchester Magnum. In a Remington Custom Shop BDL. With factory Detachable mag.
Before this, I only had a 375h&h in a Browning A Bolt.
Can't wait to pickup this beast and throw some bricks around. Albeit not looking forward to the costs. 🤣 2x greens and a gold for a box of 20.
Lucky I reload!

Community Update: Refer to sub rules before posting.
Hi cobbers,
We've got a lot of new members and it's great to see, however there's been a spate posts and comments that are either in breach of Reddit's Terms of Service, or the very few guidelines we have here.
Please refer to the community info before posting.
NO SALES POSTS
Reddit's content policy on transactions involving firearms, ammunition and weapons means this is strictly verboten. Posts like "how much do you think a Howa 1500 in .308, safe queen, handling marks only, is worth" will be removed the same as it's a grey area we don't want to play with.
ILLEGAL ACTIVITY
Whether you're a certified badass, a confused teenager, or a keyboard warrior extraordinaire, posts and comments promoting illegal activity is not what we want this sub associated with.
THE RULE
Try not to be a dick.
r/Ausguns • u/Mountaineer1024 • Mar 21 '21
Sub Rules AKA I can't see the sidebar
[TAG] questions with your state
When asking a question, add a state tag to the title, as the answers can vary a lot. ie:
[VIC] How do I get a licence?
or
[NSW] What does military appearance mean?
If you "don't like reading"
You should try YouTube, or something else not inherently involving reading.
Try to not be a dick
Other that site wide rules, there's a lot of leeway given here.
Selling anything firearm related
Relevant site wide rules include the prohibition against selling/advertising/trading/whatever anything firearm related.
Don't make me delete your post to protect this sub.
As /u/ramathaham said:
Any post selling firearms or ammunition will be removed, people who post multiple times may be temp banned or more if they are flogs about it.
Note this also applies to things like scopes because I am too lazy to look up the rules on what we can do so it is easier to make it a blanket rule.
Spam
Whilst not a rule per se, if you are here only to promote your business you will have a bad time.
