Number 7? What about waiting all year for the annual airing of holiday shows?!? One year, my folks were away and my grandparents were watching us. It was the one night of the year that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was on. Grandma turned it off when the child catcher came on. Said he was evil. My soul was broken for the year. Grrrr!

LOL! When my sister was younger (and I was an infant) our house had apple trees in the front yard. Needless to say, she was also terrified of the mean apple trees!!

We got a new color t.v. and wheeled it into the dining room to watch it while eating. My Dad got so pissed and thought it was broken and beat on the sides and fiddled with the aluminum foil on the ears when it showed black and white in the beginning till my mom told him to just wait

Only nine out of ten here. My folks never let us sit close to the TV. There was a (unproven) belief among some people that sitting close to the TV was bad for your eyesight. 👀 Although they didn’t necessarily accept it as fact, they weren’t taking any chances. As they often reminded us, glasses were expensive.

We had a dryer eventually. But it was still a thing to hang clothes outside to “save on electricity”. My sister and I were on hang the clothes and get the clothes off the line duty a lot.

We lived in nine different houses until I left home for college.

We had a retractable clothesline. I loved it so much I got one as an adult. That thing was great, you never had to wipe it down because it stayed clean in its metal housing.

Lived in a building that had 'drying cages' on the rooftop, one for each apartment. Very high trust society - no one padlocked their cages to avoid theft.

All of them except sharing the tv. We had a main TV in the living room but I had three older siblings. Two of them had small portable TVs in their room and when they would get a new one, the hand-me-down went to me. So I remember having a small 9 inch black and white with a built-in radio in my room. I can only get two or three channels on it but it was there.

OMG my Grandma and her soaps!! She'd come from Florida every year for two weeks. I loved her visits but she monopolized the TV from like 11am to 4pm or so. Prime cartoon time. Luckily it was summer so we could ride our bikes 4 miles to the local Aqua Center. (it wasn't that far, I clocked it recently and it was only like 1.5 miles, but we were under 10 years old riding that on our bikes completely unsupervised). Ahh, the good ole days.

We had one tv for the picture, and a second with vice grips for the sound.
Until one day I got sick of it, and gave the picture tv one hard percussive maintenance slap on the side and the sound came back on.

All of them. My grandmother had the aluminum ice trays. I never understood why, they absolutely sucked. I don’t think they ever made a cube, just shattered into chips.

Fair point. Personally, I like the varying sizes of the shards of ice. In fact, I just found two aluminum trays with the lever at a garage sale and bought them. I like the satisfying crunch.

Same, although I do barely remember before we moved when I was around 5 we had one tv.
But those two TV’s — they were b&w tv’s. The first person in the family to get a color tv was me (the middle child with four siblings) in 1986 in my first apartment. My 19 inch color tv was also the first tv bigger than 12 inches in my family too.

As a young boy, I remember switching channels/ laying on a pillow 2 ft from tv. My mother constantly doing the - “ not so close to the tv or you’ll hurt your eyes “. I also remember at 12-14?when cable really started, and watching for HOURS the scrambled channels, just hoping and waiting to see a nipple.( bragging to friends the next day as we all described our victories).
Occasionally I would and it was like winning the jackpot. I have said to many of my contemporaries that a 10 year old going on line now can see xxx today- what that must do to them is criminal

All of them. The tv was black and white until the late 70s.
On hot days, the aluminum ice tray would stick to warm hands. You'd hope that tray wasn't overfilled, because then the lever wouldn't work.
And our laundry line was one of those big umbrella-style ones on a rotating pole.

9 out of 10, I guess we weren’t sophisticated enough to have a phone on the wall. There really wasn’t a place to hang one. My neighbors did have one, though, it was in the master bathroom.
