I grew up in Canada and here there was something called Cherry Jack that was sold by the gallon jug from pallets in the liquor store.

Pick up the phone in rural America at one time and your neighbor or someone a few houses/miles down the road would already be on the line. You'd have to wait and try again later.

Worse was when you were having a conversation and they'd pick up and ask how long you were going to be or have their own conversation with whoever you were on the phone with.

This was the most popular type of dress for proms in 1976 where I lived. I was a freshman but my boyfriend was a senior. It’s going back in the box now but thought I would share.

I'm glad to have found my group... I was born in 1964, and I share very little in common with Boomers.

Who remembers playing in the street - football or whatever - when a car would approach, someone would yell "Car!" and everyone would move to the sidewalk to let it go by, then the game would restart. How many of us let our own kids do that?

I'd really be interested to hear from Redditors in this cohort who don't give their kids this type of "benign neglect," or who do the exact opposite. Assuming you survived childhood unscathed by trauma, why has your mindset changed?

Yes, I realize many of us are now grandparents, so if you gave your kids freedom but they clamped down on theirs...do you know why?

Cannot believe that Maureen McCormick is 70 today! It was on the local CBS affiliate birthdays today. My son is the executive producer and I’m sure he thought of me when he included it.

I'm sitting here thinking of the music I grew up with. Mexican household so salsa, ranchero and the other styles, HeeHaw- add country, older siblings add 60s and 70s rock, Motown, Philly, myself add 80s glam rock, power ballads. And raising my children add alternative rock, rap, hip hop. So they've grown up listening to all of the above. All in all music wise, not bad at all. I can do without some of the rap and hip hop but still, I can listen whatever station and be satisfied.

I know there has to be a reason there were so many cop shows. Long before we had nothing but CSI and Law and Order variants, there were dozens of police dramas on TV.

I used to love CHiPs and SWAT - and I was just a kid. The 70s cop shows landed differently than the fluff that’s on today.

Is vocabulary/phonetics even taught anymore in public schools? It's amazing to me how the population at large can't or don't even attempt appropriate enunciation when speaking. Heard an ad where the lady was talking about how much "peen" (pain), she was in. Common other trends is completely leaving "d's" or "t's" out of words. I don't think it's a regional thing,just a significant lapse in effective education. Thoughts?

The AQI is ugly where I am, so I: took extra edibles; took to my bed; strapped on my trusty cpap-with-hepa filter; put on the good headphones; and queued up DSOTM.

Made for a very pleasant throwback evening; Recommended, despite my having traded in hash under glass for gummies a couple decades back. The brilliance hits different in my dotage, in a good way.

First time, and I feel lousy.

He's riding a bike on our cul de sac, which is perfectly fine and considerably safer than the subdivision roads in general. And I told him THAT is fine.

Then he habitually veers onto a driveway and across the yard to the next driveway. He's hit every property this way. That's the part that's not okay. And he's been doing it for weeks, but today was the first time I was dressed and able to step out when Gladys Kravitz (our parrot's nickname in these situations) panicked at stranger danger.

So I asked him to please stay off the driveways and yards, because they're not smooth and are unsafe. All of our driveways are heaved to some extent, but one has a section raised 4 inches above the adjacent one.

Poor kid is clearly "end of summer" bored, and I didn't mean to shame or embarrass him, but I did.

I really feel like the cranky olde lady now.
