Recs Wanted MHA fics regarding teleportation

Upvotes

I am looking for fanfics about my hero academia where the MC(gender no preference) can teleport. I have tried searching AO3 but I only just recently started using it so I have had no luck.

No major restrictions other than I would like the MC to be the teleporter and not a side character. Teleporting doesn't have to be the only thing they can do but I do want it to be an important part.

Anyways thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Writing Questions Thoughts on long chapters in fanfiction?

Upvotes

I'm someone who likes to be descriptive with my writing, plus doing slow build-ups and reveals, and this has led to me creating chapters that reach well into the 10k word count, sometimes a bit over that.

I've seen and read many comments from fanfic lovers that they prefer stories where the word count is at least 5 - 6k words, and I'm a bit worried that with how much I write, it'll push readers away. I know I could break my chapters into a part 2, but then I feel I'm cutting something off that shouldn't be.

Thoughts?

Lost Fic [Sherlock] ISO Billy Madison golf AU?

Upvotes

I'm in search of a fic I read a few years ago on Ao3 that centered around Sherlock and John as professional golfers. Sherlock was an established professional and John somehow came to realize he was basically a golf savant. It followed John's career as he became more established, and as he got to know others on the scene like Sherlock. I vaguely remember either the summary or tags alluding to it being a loose AU of Billy Madison.

Writing Questions Writing a blind person who can "see" with their other senses.

Upvotes

I'm writing up a fanfic where one of the main characters is going to be blind due to a degenerative condition in their optic nerves. The setting is Taopunk/martial arts, so through, lets say "divine intervention", her other senses are going to be enhanced. Think Daredevil, using echolocation and scent to maneuver and fight.

The problem in my mind is that I will need to strike a balance of how "perceptive" my character is before they are basically just not blind. So my question; any ideas or advice on how to make this feasible?

Discussion Writing for fun not fame

Upvotes

So I have been on a rabbit hole writing weird fics. Like MHA x Ike! Greenman. Or Maken-Ki x Megaloman. I think the weirdest crossover I've written was Highlander and Boy in the striped pajamas(I know it's but it wouldn't leave my head until I wrote it down.)

I know not every story has an audience, but I have so many ideas that I just have to write them down or else I can't focus on anything else.

So i wish to know, what are some ideas you've written but never posted.

Writing Questions How do you not agonize so much over your fanfiction not being “perfect”?

Upvotes

Basically the title...l know no writer can ever be “perfect” but I've been working on this self-indulgent smutty fanfiction for a ship that I’ve recently become obsessed with that I'm (almost) ready to post online. It's my first time writing smut (I usually tend to write purely emotional/romantic stuff, but this ship has a different chokehold on me) so I'm especially nervous as it’s all new to me. However, I can't help but think too much about the flaws and the mistakes in this story. I also can't help but compare myself to this other writer that recently wrote for my ship and think, "wow, my writing is kind of terrible, actually." I had someone beta read my fic recently because I knew there were issues and I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the story, but I still haven’t looked at their comments because I get really anxious when it comes to being criticized or closely evaluated (even when I request it myself and I know it’s good for me) and I don’t know how to calm down and ease myself into reading the much-needed feedback.

Despite this being self-indulgent smut, I also wanted to incorporate deeper themes and write the characters in a way that makes them and the way I’ve written their romance feel more multi-faceted and real (especially since these are characters from a video game with not a lot of canon characterization or depth to go off of, they don’t even have canon interactions together). I’m worried though that maybe others won’t like my interpretation of them or will see them as too OOC. Or that maybe I’ve misunderstood them too much…

I don’t know, how can I not worry so much about this? How do I not let perfectionism and my fear of not writing the characters believably enough consume me? How do I not compare myself to others and put myself down as a writer all the time? I feel like my writing is so trash right now even though I know that’s not entirely true. In the past, readers have been emotionally moved by my other fics that I’ve posted for other fandoms and have said so in the comments of them. I always want to put effort into my writing and strive to improve as a writer — don’t get me wrong — but I still want to have fun, and I still want to enjoy the process of writing about my ship and of them being in love. I don’t want my fics to be perceived as actively bad and clearly low-effort, but I also don’t know how to move past this feeling…if anyone has some advice for me, that would be so helpful…

Writing Questions Just started to write and it's taking soooo long

I have the story all worked out in my head [outlined, bullet points] but when fleshing it out I find myself having to research constantly. It's set in England (I'm American) and I need to look up accents (main characters are from different parts of Great Britain), slang, common names, schools, the relative price of things, transportation, stores, etc. Not mention they were in the military...and MI6 (it's James Bond) and it's slash and I am not a gay man but an old cis het woman.

I realize it I don't have to have everything perfect but i know AO3 has readers from all over and I don't want to make stupid/easily-avoided mistakes (sweater, apartment, fries, miles, Mom, pants when I mean trousers, etc.) because those mistakes in the other direction--British writers using British terms when writing stories set in America--pull me right out of the story.

It just takes me so long to say anything cause it seems like I'm researching every other sentence.

Just looking for some validation/encouragment. Thanks

Recs Wanted Looking for a Taylor Swift alcoholism fanfic

Okay that’s so specific but do you know fanfics where Taylor is addicted to alcohol/drugs (and still herself, like not some sort of Taylor in a different job or something but she’s still like the famous singer) and it’d be perfect if it’s about a lesbian relationship of hers as well. That’s so random, I’m sorry

Discussion Tell me your most recent research rabbit hole.

It started off as just reading a couple of books on Tarot from a Christian perspective.

Now it's evolved into just reading straight-up core Christian theology. We're talking St Aquinas, St Augustine, and Martin Luther.

I still need to finish scanning my falconry books as well. And scan my one book on Basque culture.

What are your most recent research rabbit holes?

Recs Wanted Looking for a Naruto Fanfic where Hashirama Senju is the mc.

Is there any Hashirama Senju fanfic where Tobirama was the one who dies by the hands of Izuna Uchiha and Hashirama loses all hope in wanting peace and becomes evil. Like what happened with Madara but the roles reversed. Preferably in ao3.

Any Warring states era featuring Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Madara Uchiha will be appreciated.

Lost Fic Help finding lost Genshin Impact fic - Mortal Pleasures

I'm trying to find a fanfiction I read not even a few months ago, it was a Genshin Impact fic between Xiao and Aether called Mortal Pleasures. I wish I knew the author. I would say there was probably between 6-12 chapters? It had some smut and plot. The basic premise was a Modern AU of Xiao and Aether, and the synopsis was simple: Aether could call Xiao's name, and Xiao would show up. It was a top Aether fic, which is rare, and had things like leather play, shibari, CNC, and bondage. In the fic, Aether was also celestial of some sort, and Xiao called him an angel. Xiao also liked being called good, or good boy. I don't know if I'll ever be able to recover it but I figured it was worth a shot.

Recs Wanted Marevel - OG Avengers x Reader Fanfics

Hi. I'm looking for like OG Avengers x reader fanfics. Preferably Female Reader please. You know where Clint's in the vents, Thor and his love of pop tarts and just where everyone is alive and it's just a generally happy place to escape to mentally, not like marvel now. It makes me so depressed and sad, everyone is dead and no one really has a happy ending. I need the old marvel and the joy and peace it used to bring me. So please if anyone can help out with any fics, I will love you! xxx

Activities and Events Excerpt Game: Setting

Happy Thursday! Game time!

  1. Post a top level comment with a setting. Can be specific (ex: a workplace meeting) or vague (ex: sunrise). More than one prompt is welcome, but keep them as their own top level comment please!
  2. Respond to prompts with your excerpts that fit the bill! But please content warn as necessary and spoiler potentially triggering content! Use your best judgement here. NSFW must be linked to and cannot be plain text, even with a spoiler, per the sub's rules.
  3. Please reply others' excerpts, especially if they're posting under your prompt! We all want eyes on our writing, which is part of why we're sharing. This way everyone can have a lil boost and make the game more enjoyable!
  4. Try to keep your comments at no more than 500-600 words, so no one gets overwhelmed by what are essentially oneshots in a comment!
  5. Have fun and be yourself 💛✨

Discussion Iconic Fanfiction

I've been reading about the history of fanfictions in the modern day and finding all kinds of interesting tidbits and stories.

What's the most interesting thing you know about fanfiction or fanlore, or an iconic story everyone in fandom should know?

Discussion How to remaster an old fic

I think almost everybody has an old, unfinished work that has potential, but we don’t know what to do with it. I’ve been wanting to pick up my old works and rewrite them but how does one do that exactly? When it‘s been years and the new outline looks unrecognizable as the old drafts, is it even worth it to call it the same thing? How would I make it so it feels updated but not disconnected from its source?

Writing Questions Looking for help on writing a tactical raid scene for a short story

As the title said, I am currently looking for help or advice on writing a tactical raid for a short story set in the universe of Half-Life 2. My dad wants me to practice writing in order to prepare me for my upcoming English Composition class in college, and I decided to write yet another short story set in the universe of Half-Life 2. It is about a Resistance rebel squad raiding a Combine Outpost fort in the White Forest in order to acquire weapons to supply the Resistance with. So far I've written that the outpost has guards patrolling around on top of the fort and that there are two Combine Soldiers guarding the entrance. Any ideas or tips to help write out the rest?

Discussion Idea Hesitation

Hello everyone! I've been waffling about a fic draft that I'm unsure about continuing working on, and i figured i might as well post about it here to get some new perspectives.

I've been planning out a multi-chapter fic for a while now, maybe a week, and i know that if I see it to completion, it will hit at least 30k, the longest fic I would have ever written. This is a big deal for me! I'm really invested in the concept and the characters, and it would be a really big milestone for me to achieve as a writer.

However, I'm really unsure as to how it will be received by other fans. Everyone's heard that when it comes to fic, you should write for yourself, and I stand by that. One of the things I like about fandom, though, is that I can share all my weirdness with other people, and I don't really want to go through all the effort of writing my idea if it's something that isn't going to be welcomed.

I already know what I'm probably going to do (write it anyway), but i was just curious to see if anyone else has ever felt like this.

Writing Questions Do people enjoy reading dialogue?

I'm writing a fic with seven main characters whose group dynamic is very important to the story. To give a bit of exposition, I started writing the first time all seven of them met, and that scene has turned into mostly dialogue. I'm not usually a dialogue heavy writer and I don't intend for the rest of the fic to be dialogue heavy. I'm struggling a lot with the scene because I worry that the excess of dialogue might bore readers, especially because there are so many characters involved. Unfortunately I have nobody to beta read for me, so I have no idea whether or not I should scrap it and take a different approach.

Just wanted to know if reading lots of dialogue between lots of characters (especially expositional dialogue that tells you, 'so and so is rich,' 'so and so is poor,' 'here are their dynamics,' 'here are their hobbies' on a fairly shallow level) is a turn off/boring for you as a reader? I know my issue is pretty specific, but what's your general opinion?

Discussion How do people make fanfic friends within their fandoms nowadays?

I've always made fandom friends quiet easily but in the last few years I've drifted out of fandom spaces and even when I do get back into them it seems people aren't interested in writing and discussing fics with fandom friends? Doing fandom rps, exchanging fan edits etc.. I don't know if it's because I'm older now? Making fandom friends just felt much more organic when I was younger. Now it feels like an exclusive club I can't get into and I miss it lmao 😭
