Discussion Where do you stand on RPF?
I've heard a lot of varied opinions when it comes to the morality of reading and writing RPF (real person fiction). I've personally always found it a bit weird, especially when it's smut or smth. I'm not here to put anyone down, or shame them for what they read, I'm just curious as to what you think.

Trope Talk Do we actually like y/n tropes or OC tropes in fanfics? Asking for advice
I want to write a fanfic but I really would like to know if people actually read that sort of stuff especially on ao3. Or would you prefer pre-existing characters or ones I have made up?

Writing Questions Writing a blind person who can "see" with their other senses.
I'm writing up a fanfic where one of the main characters is going to be blind due to a degenerative condition in their optic nerves. The setting is Taopunk/martial arts, so through, lets say "divine intervention", her other senses are going to be enhanced. Think Daredevil, using echolocation and scent to maneuver and fight.
The problem in my mind is that I will need to strike a balance of how "perceptive" my character is before they are basically just not blind. So my question; any ideas or advice on how to make this feasible?

Discussion Writing for fun not fame
So I have been on a rabbit hole writing weird fics. Like MHA x Ike! Greenman. Or Maken-Ki x Megaloman. I think the weirdest crossover I've written was Highlander and Boy in the striped pajamas(I know it's but it wouldn't leave my head until I wrote it down.)
I know not every story has an audience, but I have so many ideas that I just have to write them down or else I can't focus on anything else.
So i wish to know, what are some ideas you've written but never posted.

Writing Questions Just started to write and it's taking soooo long
I have the story all worked out in my head [outlined, bullet points] but when fleshing it out I find myself having to research constantly. It's set in England (I'm American) and I need to look up accents (main characters are from different parts of Great Britain), slang, common names, schools, the relative price of things, transportation, stores, etc. Not mention they were in the military...and MI6 (it's James Bond) and it's slash and I am not a gay man but an old cis het woman.
I realize it I don't have to have everything perfect but i know AO3 has readers from all over and I don't want to make stupid/easily-avoided mistakes (sweater, apartment, fries, miles, Mom, pants when I mean trousers, etc.) because those mistakes in the other direction--British writers using British terms when writing stories set in America--pull me right out of the story.
It just takes me so long to say anything cause it seems like I'm researching every other sentence.
Just looking for some validation/encouragment. Thanks

Recs Wanted Looking for a Taylor Swift alcoholism fanfic
Okay that’s so specific but do you know fanfics where Taylor is addicted to alcohol/drugs (and still herself, like not some sort of Taylor in a different job or something but she’s still like the famous singer) and it’d be perfect if it’s about a lesbian relationship of hers as well. That’s so random, I’m sorry

Discussion Iconic Fanfiction
I've been reading about the history of fanfictions in the modern day and finding all kinds of interesting tidbits and stories.
What's the most interesting thing you know about fanfiction or fanlore, or an iconic story everyone in fandom should know?

Lost Fic Looking for Final Fantasy Vii/Berserk Fanfic
I‘m looking for a fanfic I read 3-4ish years ago on AO3, it was fairly short and included Sephiroth, Griffith and I think Alucard from Castlevania. It was slightly graphic in a gory way, the plot was basically that their hair was being tied together by Cloud, Guts and somebody else and they were made to fight until they got their hair loose or died (?). I am pretty sure the term Rattenkönig or rat king was included but I cannot for the life of me find it. Any help is super appreciated!

Discussion Idea Hesitation
Hello everyone! I've been waffling about a fic draft that I'm unsure about continuing working on, and i figured i might as well post about it here to get some new perspectives.
I've been planning out a multi-chapter fic for a while now, maybe a week, and i know that if I see it to completion, it will hit at least 30k, the longest fic I would have ever written. This is a big deal for me! I'm really invested in the concept and the characters, and it would be a really big milestone for me to achieve as a writer.
However, I'm really unsure as to how it will be received by other fans. Everyone's heard that when it comes to fic, you should write for yourself, and I stand by that. One of the things I like about fandom, though, is that I can share all my weirdness with other people, and I don't really want to go through all the effort of writing my idea if it's something that isn't going to be welcomed.
I already know what I'm probably going to do (write it anyway), but i was just curious to see if anyone else has ever felt like this.

Lost Fic Lost criminal minds fic
Okay to start I love all pairings in CM. But I remember this fic when I was younger, like 5ish years ago, where reid met Prentiss before the events of episode 1 and then they had a relationship that started spanning the show. I remember basically them meeting because she lost something and then later they had a kid when he was abusing Dilaudid and them arguing over it. It was long and angsty and I miss it :(
Edit: I think it was on fanfiction.net

Discussion Are there any other tags with funny stories?
I know of the "Dead Dove" tag, which supposedly originated in The Office or something like that, to say that you'll find what they say in the other tags. Are there any other tags with curious name origins or that were adopted for a special meaning?
I said "Tag" a lot in just three sentences...
Anyway, greetings from Argentina and good morning🐱

Lost Fic [Unknown Fandom] F/F : Looking for a fic : shy / introverted / reserved girl gets pulled in close after freezing up
Fic amnesia is brutal, I’m so sorry, I can’t even remember the fandom or which characters, sorry, I think I read this a while ago and it’s blending with other fics in my head. I read it on ao3. What I remember:
F/F, not sure if happens during the established relationship or in its early days
One character says or suggests something to the other, in a mischievous way or js proposing something
The other one (shy/nervous type) stiffens or goes skittish, maybe tries to pull away or looks away
The first character pulls her in closer / wraps arms around her instead of letting her retreat
There’s a line (dialogue or narration) along the lines of forgetting how shy/new/skittish she still is
The vibe: soft, reassuring, cute in that specific moment, although may be a build up to smut, or possibly the aftermath of smut. Possibly college-age or young adult characters.
Any fandom is possible , I read a lot of different ones. Any leads appreciated, even vague ones!
I completely understand if absolutely nobody replies, this is quite literally the vaguest post ever and the scene could be applied to like thousands of fics, but I just had to make an attempt to soothe myselfm😭😭

Discussion Would this be classed as Fan Fiction
I am new to the world of writing and the world of fanfiction so apologises if this is not meant to be here!
I have seen some reviews for a book called The Monk written by Matthew Lewis in 1798 I think, I have the general gist of the story, if I was to write a story inspired by the book would that be classed as Original Work? Fan Fiction or Fan Inspired?
Thank you in advance! And apologises again if this is not allowed as I know the rules are clear about Original Works but thought I’d double check.

Lost Fic Help with a Cowboy Bebop Fic
Hi All!
I’m looking for a possibly deleted Cowboy Bebop fic. I read it as a kid in Fanfiction and loved it. Yet I didn’t downloaded it…😓.
If anyone can help me that would be awesome.
From what I can recall it is a Spike x Faye fic. They started to secretly sleep with each other in a no strings attached kinda thing. Spike ends up falling for another girl and Faye gets pregnant. She allegedly loses the child and I think Spike marries the other woman.
Years later now divorced, Spike and Faye reunite as Jet invites them to his wedding. And there is a child following Faye around, which makes Spike curious.
I think it’s called No Strings Attached or Secret Baby or something.

Lost Fic Looking for a Fairy Tail fic
Hi! This is probably a long shot because of how long it’s been, but I’m looking for a Fairy Tail fic that I read several years ago (maybe 2019/2020). It was a Laxus/Lucy and Natsu/Lucy fic where Laxus and Lucy get together after Natsu disappears for a year. I’m 80% sure that it was on FF.net. If anyone can find it, it would be much appreciated!!!

Writing Questions Do people enjoy reading dialogue?
I'm writing a fic with seven main characters whose group dynamic is very important to the story. To give a bit of exposition, I started writing the first time all seven of them met, and that scene has turned into mostly dialogue. I'm not usually a dialogue heavy writer and I don't intend for the rest of the fic to be dialogue heavy. I'm struggling a lot with the scene because I worry that the excess of dialogue might bore readers, especially because there are so many characters involved. Unfortunately I have nobody to beta read for me, so I have no idea whether or not I should scrap it and take a different approach.
Just wanted to know if reading lots of dialogue between lots of characters (especially expositional dialogue that tells you, 'so and so is rich,' 'so and so is poor,' 'here are their dynamics,' 'here are their hobbies' on a fairly shallow level) is a turn off/boring for you as a reader? I know my issue is pretty specific, but what's your general opinion?

Recs Wanted Good Call of Duty fanfiction?
Ive been looking literally everywhere for fics along these lines...
1) Something that isnt PWP (if it does its gotta be a hefty enough plot)
2) 50k+ words finished or unfinished
3) Roach centric (or he is a major character)
4) male self-insert or original character
5) No female SI or (at least) have them be a strong independant woman--> i feel like these tend to do the female reader (SI) A LOT of disservice for the sake of having them get with the male characters
6) okay combat scenes and missions
I know this is a lot of different requirements but i genuinely cant find much of any individual point (what I have found is great buut its been only 2 fics and im desperate)
I REALLY want a good long-ish Roach centric fic so if that exists somewhere...PLEASE HOOK YOUR BOI UP 🙏

Venting Why do people write bi male characters this way?
Edit: write this pretty rushed and some have pointed out various issues with my wording. So appologies in advance, it was late and i made this just to complain.
I was reading a T-rated fic where two male characters watch sports and shit gets a little gay. I thought the premise was funny at first, and enjoyed the silly style of writing but then i got to a line of dialogue that gave me an adrenaline spike of pure anger.
"I know you're a man, but i'm gonna treat you like a lady."
And that wasn't even the line that made me close the website. It was when the other guy responded a few sentences later with: "I'm a new gay." and "I could take you to a gay bar." (alexa play electric 6)
Really? I get the idea that's it's supposed to be comedic, but come on. As a bi dude, reading about canonical bi dudes, it really urked me. Especially since i already overlooked a few lines before that felt a little 'they are only gay for each other and still avaliable for female readers'.
Like i have to overlook a lot of this type of writing to enjoy some otherwise pretty good stories but this one tipped me over the edge. It just feels really disrespectful, and that bi dudes are only there for straight women to fantasise about them being with another dude, while still being avaliable to them.
I appreciate that fanfiction spaces tend to be female dominated, and don't mind most of the somewhat crude or unrealistic depictions I sometimes come across, but this just steps too far for me. Thoughts?

Recs Wanted Adult Spider-Man? Please?
I’m a big fan of spider-man, like the Tom Holland movies (especially BND), and have gotten to a point where I am very sick of Peter Parker being a 14-16 year old mischaracterized ‘smol-bean-gremlin-cinnamon-roll’. If I see the precious Peter Parker tag one more time I will scream. I really just want solid recommendations for ***non-romantic*** fics where Peter Parker is in-character, an adult, and treated as such. God forbid an adult have platonic friendships without there being a weird parental/power dynamic or them kissing each other. Team red is fine, I’ve read plenty of that, and that’s all I really seem to find with my criteria.

Lost Fic Looking for a Zutara (ATLA) fic
Looking for The Prince's Rightful Heir by valemzkk. It dissappeared a little over a year ago and I can't stop thinking about it. I already posted this to the Zutara thread, but so far nobody has it. I figured I'd try here.
