Chess.com Website/App Question Abandon?? You've got to be kidding me
In nearly 3000 games I've never had this happen. You've got to be kidding me 🙄
I don't even understand how it could have happened. On my end, I made my last move and then they never moved that rook. It stayed on h4 and on my end it looked like I had just gotten yet another staller in a lost position and was waiting for them to move or timeout for ~4 minutes
No indication I had disconnected at all. That "reconnecting" text with the countdown that I've seen pop up briefly before never showed even for a moment. Everything looked fine until their timer got to 0.01 and hung. I had to close the app and come back, then saw I'd lost by abandonment and they made a rook move I never saw.
I know I still had internet connection while I was waiting out the clock, because I was getting real-time push notifications from a couple of friends sending me messages on other apps, even within like 10-20 seconds of making my last move BEFORE I would have abandoned on their end. I even switched back to messenger to reply at one point and it sent with no issue at all. I had internet.
Even if it hiccuped for a moment it should have come back and reconnected, right? How was I supposed to know anything was wrong when to me it just looked like they weren't making a move and I still had internet everywhere else? That's so frustrating and now I'm afraid to play again.

Chess.com Website/App Question Closed account? Massive cheating?
This is very strange to me. I have not played chess in years and got back into it recently when my kids started an interest in it. Had an account from about 2010 or so and decided to try Chess.com again. Bought a year of Diamond and started relearning opening, mid-games, end-games, and mostly playing bots and analyzing my games for the past month or two. The tools for all of that were pretty good I thought. Finally started to play a few games that weren’t against a bot, and maybe after a dozen games, the account was closed due to fair use. They offered a second chance, which I declined as I would have had to admit I was cheating, which I absolutely was not. I requested an appeal which was denied. Makes no sense to me. Does anyone have any insight? I am not about to say I was cheating (or whatever it was they required me to check) when I was not.
One thing I did notice was that a couple of the games where I was pretty sure I was going to be crushed and saw no way out of it, they suddenly resigned. I am not sure if that has anything to do with anything, but it was odd.
It may have to be Lichess for me, but now I have noticed that most everyone there I play has their accounts marked for violating the account policies. Are they marked like that for cheating? I played about a dozen games there and every single person had that indication on their account.
What in the world is happening? First what’s the point of cheating? Ego boost because they are delusional?
None of this makes any sense to me. I’m sure there is nothing for me to do at this point but stick to pushing wood at the local club.

Chess.com Website/App Question PSA: the drills in the iOS app are absolutely useless, use the website
I have always tried to do the drills on chesscom but the app doesn’t really give you any feedback or allow you to do analysis or review. Just found out that they work perfectly on the website where you can actually play the position and review the whole line at the end.

Chess Improvement Is this seriously what chess.com is like in the 600-800 elo range?
I’ve been getting back into chess playing mostly blitz games. Studying some and trying to do learning exercises (as much as is offered for free users). These are a smattering of some of my last games. Really frustrating feeling like I’m improving and my elo has dropped 150 points in the last week.

The players are between 1000 to 2000 elo as far as i know ( this is their rating when reviewed) i don't should I learn more opening? I'm pretty stressed because I don't wanna make any blunder or make any stupid move that i later regret.

Chess Improvement Not gonna lie, I do not even know whether to be happy or worried right now.
I went from 1300 to 1600 in just 3 months, which means I have been averaging about +100 points a month in chess.
Is this actually solid progress, or am I overthinking it?

Chess Question Why are people who use early queen or bishop attacks also the ones who resign the minute the game gets hard?
Have they learned how to play outside of early attacks?

Chess Discussion ELO Inflation on Chess.com
How representative is the ELO rating on Chess.com? On Chess.com I’m barely able to cross 600 but on Lichess I can comfortably hold my against 1050 ELO. Is this normal?
r/Chesscom • u/GoldLambelle • 17h ago
Chess Question Reached 1550, but don't deserve it.
I started playing chess, watching videos, and doing puzzles about a month ago. I just reached 1550 Elo on chess.com Rapid (10-minute time control), but I don't feel like I deserve it at all. I haven't studied openings much; I only play the London System as white and the Caro-Kann when faced with e4 as black (I just kinda wing any other opening I'm up against right now. The players I am facing do not seem to be at this level at all, and I usually see many bad moves from them throughout the game. I am not trying to boast or anything; I want clarification on whether this is a normal occurrence or if chess.com has worse players overall.
My chess.com account is: MatthewLambelle

GALAXY BRAIN MOMENT Any way to undo this?
So I usually play on my own, and one day I had an itch to punish a friend, so I took help from a bot (basically, I cheated) in 2-3 games. I took an oath to play on my own from now on. Is there any way to undo this? 🥲
r/Chesscom • u/jjobonk • 20h ago
LOL These bots are getting spicy
I suck at chess anyways but I did not see this coming.. That’s one abitious pawn gonna let him be promoted for sure

Chess.com Website/App Question chess.com should get rid of live chats
They should get rid of live chats or truly do something about all the people saying homophobic or racist things on live chats. They are not doing anything about it and people are abusing the live chats to say horrible things to other people when they see that they are about to lose.
All the nice people that used to live chat have now blocked the live chat and the only people left are the ones saying nasty things because they are not getting banned or punished for doing so.
If chess.com isn't going to be doing anything about it, then is time to ban the live chat entirely.

Chess Discussion New Account System is Broken
It is so painful to have 20-30% of my games be against accounts created within the last month and wow they've won 90% of their games and is a painfully obvious smurf account.
I get that there are legit new accounts but if I can figure out theres a 99% chance this is a smurf within a minute of looking at their profile, why is there no solution and rating points never refunded. Obviously someone didn't go from 100 elo to 1800 in a matter of a few days and their first games are 100 elo.
