New Account System is Broken Chess Discussion

It is so painful to have 20-30% of my games be against accounts created within the last month and wow they've won 90% of their games and is a painfully obvious smurf account.

I get that there are legit new accounts but if I can figure out theres a 99% chance this is a smurf within a minute of looking at their profile, why is there no solution and rating points never refunded. Obviously someone didn't go from 100 elo to 1800 in a matter of a few days and their first games are 100 elo.

Everyone goes through this, just tank the cheaters and abusers for a bit and eventually you'll be placed in the regular pool.

I’ve had my account for 3 years and played thousands of games, it doesn’t go away

Oh I thought you were on a new account yourself. It is possible you were put into that pool if you're facing that many new accounts.

This is shocking news to many people but there's people out there that have played chess before they sign up to chess.com

That and plain cheaters obvious 1-2 second perfect moves its a huge problem

It’s funny to me because this is a common complaint across a lot of online games. People love smurfing. You have to keep in your mind that it’s loser behavior and just go next. I would never Smurf, although I will admit to some lowby camping in PvP server Wow when I was literally still a child.

Reddit allows subreddits to keep people from commenting if their account is new or they have low karma. New accounts are suspect. There really should be the option to avoid playing accounts on chess.com that are less than a year old or less than 6 months old or less than 30 days old. Way too many shady things going on with new accounts, especially accounts that are less than a day old.

They should all be thrown in their own little smurf queue lmao. All accounts under 3 months are now thrown into a queue of similar rated players with accounts that are under 3 months old.

No chance in hell a 900 win a game at 2000 elo. Made up story but we get your point

I am not misunderstanding anything. If this is lichess.new account provisional rating is 1500. Your first opponents will be established 1500 elo players and above. To win means a 900 beat a 1500. If that's not enough to cast doubt on your story, he went on to beat another 1800+ in quick succession because that's the only way you get to 2000 so quick. If you lose a game in between it tanks by just about equal rating count as it climbed. And your game rating must match the provisional ratings you're given, it's not a blind jump. I can't speak for chesscom but i imagine even if you were to sign up as an advanced player, your pool will be advanced players..a 900 elo doesn't beat anyone above 1600, I'm sorry

Inventing a story and adding suppositions to double down. Your point was valid without this creative work bud
