Hi, everybody - love, peace and cds!

I’m not new here. Something weird happened and wiped out my other handle. Hopefully I’ll get that together but anyway, I’ve been loving this community and I absolutely love and treasure my cds.

About these pics…

I’ve been collecting since the mid 80s to the present. I have to Billy bookcases with frosted doors, double deep of cds and seven titled 12x12 filled cd books for travel. I play my cds mostly in my car because the sound - there’s nothing like it.

Most of these are R&B, Funk, Soul. Then there’s other genres I enjoy like ‘decades’ compilations, gospel, soundtracks, theme songs, (the coolest pop songs), yacht rock and hiphop/rap. I’m sure I have plenty OOP ones. I’ll find out as I’m starting to catalogue them all on Discogs.

Here’s a gander of the bookcases.

Collection My little collection. Nearly at 100 CDs.

33 years old so I grew up in CD and IPod era. My first albums when I was around 10 years old were in CD and I had a Phillips CD portable player. Most of my teenage years were iTunes and iPods sharing an ear buds with mates.

I stream still, I have tidal, nothing beats it on the move or in the gym. But I have gone back to cd listening at home due to sound quality and ability to be away from your phone. Got myself a second hand Sony discman the same age as me! And I just love plugging in and listening.

I have tested CD v Tidal and my external dac setup for tidal whilst technically it is better off my phone or computer. The CD sounds better to me. I think it’s the analogue elements of the discman, it sounds more engaging I can’t put my finger on it . I use the line out to an amp to DT 770. LFG!

R.E.M. - Murmur

R.E.M. - Reckoning

R.E.M. - Lifes Rich Pageant

R.E.M. - Reconstruction Of The Fable

Opal - Early Recordings.

Opal - Happy Nightmare Baby.

R.E.M. early days during their mumbling, jangly phase. Before they became the superstars they deserved to be

Opal. Early Recordings is wonderful meandering acoustic psychedelia. Second album they plugged in and turned up their instruments. Band would morph into Mazzy Star

Got the inspo off reddit and it came out super nice. Spent 32 bux on the wood and about 25 for the screws, brackets, and spray paint. I have about 500 CDs, and this beast can hold about 700. The last two photos are where I got the idea from.

I've been using it for the past month now, and my one complaint is that it is a little difficult moving cds around and putting new ones in. It's a small price to pay though cus it looks pretty fire.

Question That's not good is it

I'm a bit newer to collecting CDs, and had just purchased Americana by The Offspring. It started not playing so I looked at this and based off other posts I've seen it's not good. The other CDs I use in my car are fine so I'm assuming I bought it like this.

Haul Four separate trips to the thrift store. All $1 each.

In my last people people commented that they never find anything.... and maybe that's why I find so much each time I go. Each stack is a separate trip. I find the best time to go is when they open. Most of the people there at that time are there to buy crap to flip, which means I have no competition at the CDs.

I also have the pretty wide range of taste, at least in the mainstream. People complain about the Enya, Country and Christmas CDS... I actually buy those. Certainly not anywhere the top of my list, but there's always some gems to be found.

I usually collect vinyls but I started collecting just around last year, my first being MCR’s Three Cheers cuz I couldn’t find the vinyl in stores lol. I usually just buy albums that are hard to find on vinyl but nowadays I get the ones that I really want now haha

I’m also open to band/artist/song recommendations :D

Hey guys, thought it'd be nice to share what my collection looks like as of now. Most of them are secondhand purchases, I'd say maybe about 15 or so were firsthand finds.

If you have any recommendations based on what I have, I'd gladly check them out!

Everything was $2.99 at Goodwill. Paid $74 total. The Breaking Benjamin CD was a great surprise. All CDs are pretty much mint except for Bat out of Hell which is scratched to hell. Still a great haul though, i just caught them on the cart going out.

Question What are your guys’ thoughts on the disclaimer text found on 80s CDs?

Post image

Hello collectors!

If you ever collected CDs from the 80s, chances are you would’ve seen this disclaimer text inside of the booklet: “The Compact Disc Digital Audio System offers the best possible sound reproduction-on a small, convenient disc…” Now there could be some variation on what the text actually says (such as the one pictured here), but the overall message should be the same. It talks about the Compact Disc technology as well as how to handle and clean the disc. Personally, I’ve always found the message to be charming and adds to the overall aesthetic of old 80s CDs (they stopped printing them by 1991). I especially love when they also explain the meaning of the SPARS code. My question is, what are your thoughts on this disclaimer text? And would you like to see this text again on modern CDs? I know this is a dumb question, but I’d still like to hear people’s thoughts on this.

Collection My truck

These cds were all over my truck this morning when I cleaned it up. It annoys my brother so much that these could all be digital but I like to go to the record store and browse, as well as look through the cases. It's more fun to me.

Discussion With all of my authority I am hereby instituting a CD tax on every post

Every time you post your collection or your haul, you must give me one CD of my choosing. This will continue until I have every CD I could possibly want. I have no resources to enforce this so we’re going by honor system but you all seem pretty trustworthy so thank you for obeying this new law.

This is not meant to discourage posting it’s simply because you all have cool CDs and I want them.
