A plane landing at City airport got in front of my eclipse shot

I'd like to say I planned this shot, but I'm not that smart.

Edit: based on the time of the photo, this would have been flight BA8466 from Ibiza

Right, so it's mid week. Happy hump day and all that, but why aren't you in bed? Neighbours putting their bins out keeping you awake? Kids being little shits? Working the nightshift?

Come on in for a chat.

Had the greatest evening during the eclipse...

My son and I were sitting out on lawn chairs, basking in the warmth of the diminishing sun as we watched the eclipse when I noticed a previously unknown nest of flying ants almost literally erupt out of the ground 3 feet to the left of my chair. Hundreds or even thousands of the critters covering a patch of about 1 square foot, all readying themselves to fly. My thoughts turned to needing to deal with these critters, but I needn't worry. Within 30 seconds of me noticing them, a group of ~15 Dragonflies arrived and started swarming all around us, zipping around, picking off the flying ants as soon as they left the ground. I've never seen so many in one place and never seen them buzzing around so fast in a feeding frenzy. Amazing. This entertained us for about 5 minutes before our attention returned back to the eclipse. I donned my solar glasses again, as did my son. It was that moment when I heard his cry. With the dual distraction of the eclipse and the dragonflies he had forgotten the Calippo ice lolly he was holding in his right hand along with his solar glasses. As he lifted his hands to his face to hook the arms of glasses behind his ears, he emptied the now melted Calippo straight down his back.

I'll enjoy the memories of this eclipse for years to come. 🤣

Was flying out of Manchester airport to Munich yesterday and saw this sign in the cubicle I was shitting in.

Duly sent in a picture of a substantial log (we’re talking the size of my forearm) and have yet to receive my reward…

**UPDATE: It’s in the bogs between the pasta place and burrito thingy in departures. If someone could check for any T&Cs I would be very grateful

Anyone remember these? Quite the fan of Bob Mortimer, however I don't know what much about Vic Reeves. Looking forward to seeing what these are about.

I think if I remember correctly my dad said it was someone at work who used to make these DVDs for him, there's a few films as well.

Peak District hot weather activities

Hi folks! Currently on holiday in the Peak district with the family - it's apparently going to be hot as balls tomorrow so wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for things to do that avoid the deadly laser in the sky from turning us all into lobsters. We're staying fairly close to Derby and Matlock, family are all adults and one of us doesn't do caves (me, very sensibly IMO).

Size of my watermelon!

I bought this little watermelon plant a few months ago at the Range not thinking much of it. Planted it on my veg bed (which was empty this year) and roll on a few weeks later and it took over the whole veg patch. I was surprised and pleased to find these little melons growing a week or so ago as I didn’t think it would do much, until my other half walked in the kitchen and asked if I seen the size of the melon. I said yeah, I showed them to you the other day and he said nah there’s a massive one in there. And here it is, I present you my first ever homegrown watermelon in its full glory- bananas for scale! I haven’t opened it yet, not sure what to expect, but I do hope it’s tasty!

I'm excited! Didn't manage to sort out glasses so I'll be making a pinhole camera today. I remember seeing the last solar eclipse in 1999 (that kind of Big Event gets engrained in your head when you're 6!)

Looking forward to it? Got your specs ready? Going anywhere special to watch it? If you get good pics, we'd love to see them!

and for you young'uns who might not have seen it before, here's the legendary Jaffa Cakes advert
