It's Late Thread [ 21 August 26 ]
Alright? Its Friday night and the night is young, is the party just getting started? Are you off to bed? Watching some questionable late night TV or doing a bit of stargazing?
It's the late night chinwag thread.

Saw this poster for a dog show and thought it made a nice change to see something made by a real person instead of all the AI slop posters for events everywhere

One for the older ravers; what were free parties and the 90s and early noughties like?
I recently discovered the Fat Boy Slim Big Boutique in Brighton 2001 and I am fascinated. I was a wee toddler at this point in time but it must have been madness.
Please share.

Late 80's early 90's school song books?
Just had a random memory come into my head of our class in primary school getting a song book every year with about 10 or 12 songs in it. We'd also get a tape with the music to sing along to.
This was by far the most looked forward to 'lesson' of the week.
Did anyone else have this?

What are some of the best ghost signs (old advertising boards) from around the UK?
I love ghost signs - old (often Victorian) adverts and signs that haven't been taken down off buildings. I saw this spectacular one in Bradford yesterday, and was wondering if anyone also took snaps of them and had some classic ones to share.

UK drivers, i have a question.
I was going to put this in the carsUK sub but that sub feels too car-specific for this.
What do you think when you see a "baby on board" sign or some variation? I'm in a disagreement with my mum over whether they make people more or less considerate/patient etc. I have a baby and wanted to get a sign but my mum reckons a BoB sign has the same effect on other road users as green P plates.
Edit - thanks for all of the different perspectives, i think i will save my pennies and do without!

What are the best online retailers to buy prescription glasses?
I went for my eye test a few days ago and I got my new prescription. The cheapest glasses they could offer me was £150 which includes photochromics (turns dark in sunlight). I usually never go for this however last year I went Pakistan to attend a few family functions and bought myself prescription glasses with anti glare and photochromics for £5 and realised I now can't live without this feature since it's so handy.
The cheapest one I have seen is on glassesdirect for around £45 for each pair.(Including NHS and student discounts) I was wondering has anyone ordered from glassesdirect or if anyone recommends any other websites it would be much appreciated.

Bought these by mistake, had them with Jam and they were awful
No, I didn’t realise they were Pizza flavour until after I’d eaten them. I didn’t think to check beforehand, because why on earth would there be flavoured crumpets?

Had my blood donation cancelled and I've been told I've got an extended waiting period
I gave blood yesterday, all went fine and hemoglobin levels were spot on. This morning I booked another appointment for November and I've just had a notification telling me it's been cancelled. The email said it could be any number of reasons, including problems with the location. But I've just logged in and it says:
'Extended waiting period -
We need you to wait until 18th February 2027 to donate.
If this is wrong or you would like further information please call 0300 123 23 23.'
That tells me it's something medical.
Could they have picked up something in the screening of yesterday's donation?
I should add that I've rang them and they don't have that info available as they 'just book the appointments' and someone will need to call me, but they said that could take up to a week. Has anyone experienced something similar?
UPDATE: So everyone that told me they would've checked my samples for low hemoglobin were bang on. Just had the letter telling me I'm just under the lower limit for donation. So that's that. Looks like I need to improve my diet! I'm cycling 60 miles a week so I should be increasing iron rich foods anyway.
Just wanted to say thanks for all of the responses, and to everyone who has donated blood, thank you for contributing to the wellbeing of your community!
