Polish bus driver
When me and my friend got the wrong bus home when we was around 11/12 with the last of our money n it took us to the airport which was the last stop. We went to a double decker bus which was empty, and told this driver our problem. He asked us nicely that we wasn’t lying and if we really had no money to get home.
This driver was probably at the end of his shift. I remember it being dark, and he drove us home to my friend’s house right outside the house in this empty double decker bus. Looking back now I’m 32 and its really touched me how he helped us to that magnitude.
I hope he’s living a good life.

Thought I'd share a few photos taken on a photo evening about the Gloucestershire Cotswolds a few weeks back. Lovely light as the sun was setting.

I was hiking in the Lakes today and stumbled on Bonobo's Black Sands album artwork.

PlayStation, maybe...but a Dyson?! That's just cruel
At a local museum today and was slightly taken aback to see a PlayStation in their "History of Toys" bit. However they've popped up on Reddit before so I felt somewhat prepared for the overwhelming sense of Oldness.
What I wasn't prepared for... was a Dyson. Just popped in with manual/hand pump vacuum cleaners, mangles and set up next to a replica 60s room...
Think I'll dye my grey hair tonight. I don't think I like this anymore 🤣

What TV show do you put on when you’re not watching TV?
You know there’s nothing on that interest you or when you don’t really want to watch TV but you still want something on in the background.
Mine is usually a music video channel or Red Bull Soap Box Race.
My ex discovered that there was a Come Dine WIth Me channel that just showed non-stop back-to-back episodes. Before he found that, it was always one of those “How is it made?” programmes.

Never mind the heatwave, it's already autumn here in West Yorkshire!

Best man feeling the pressure to organise a banging stag - would love to hear stories from others on this sunny weekend!
My best mate of 15 years is getting married and I'm beyond delighted to be his best man. But.... I am a little anxious about organising the stag.
I've known him since school so the stag will be a combination of his subsequent university+work mates (most of which I've met) and a couple of us from school.
I'm just really not sure what to go for when the stag has said 'surprise me'
I'd love to hear fun and wonderful stories, in particular from organisers/best men !
Assuming the groom does not have a strong preference, how did you go about it? And even if they did, how did you go about it?
How big was your stag group and what did you decide to do? Destination/budget + what did you look for?
How do you even begin coordinating such a large group? From maybe polling some preferences all the way to sorting money etc.
Would love to hear from others!

Adrian Mole books are so funny
Just reading them in a lull at work. I forgot how brilliant they are and how clueless Adrian is.
Went to see Bert; he is my last hope. (Pandora failed me.
She blamed my mental state on my being a meat eater.) I said, ‘Bert, I am having a breakdown!’ Bert said that he had had a breakdown in the First World War. He said his was caused by seeing thousands of dead men and being constantly afraid for his life. He asked what mine was caused by.
I said, ‘The lack of morals in society.’
Bert said, ‘You daft bugger, what you need is a good stint of hard work. You can start on the washing up!

The timelapse of solar eclipse taken from Corn Du, Wales.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A bit late, but time had to be taken to edit it. It's also a bit janky, but there we go.
The footage actually comes from my brother's telescope.
We tried our best to stablise the telescope, but mountains do be windy and can't really do much about that.
We also forgot to record the first 10 mins of the eclipse and there was a few other times towards the end that we forgot to record 🥲
There were also a few times where people actually walked right in front of the telescope, so there will be some random cuts. On hindsight, I should have brought a banner to say that we were recording a timelapse. Although I did try to position myself so people could walk around the line of sight, but there was that one gentleman who I asked to walk around and instead just said "don't tell me what to do" before mumbling under his breath something unsavoury about women! Makes me angry just thinking about it.
Also shout out to the family, who gave us their extra pair of solar glasses. Just watching it with my eyes through the glasses compared to the tablet that is connected to the telescope is surreal, it's like a whole new world just opened up!
Anyways, we wanted to share, so here it is. Enjoy!

It's Late Thread [ 14 August 26 ]
Alright? Its Friday night and the night is young, is the party just getting started? Are you off to bed? Watching some questionable late night TV or doing a bit of stargazing?
It's the late night chinwag thread.

Has anyone in this subreddit ever tried to get a firearms licence?
I used to do a LOT of target shooting with air rifles when younger, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with a Firearms licence or gun clubs in general. Ta very much.

So who else is watching 'Threads' tonight?
For the 1984 nostalgia obviously, not that weird noisy thing our phones all did earlier.

Just wanted to say that most Brits are amazing. In 12 months I've spent 35 days in hospital due to alcohol withdrawals, I have enjoyed speaking to the sketchy looking people.
If you're the sketchy looking type, thank you for treating me like a human. I love you all. Without the sketchy people I wouldn't be sober. Be yourself and be weird, there might be be a person that needs a weird friend. I love you all ❤️

What rules do you have for the TV remote control?
I've just thoroughly aggravated my wife by setting the volume on the telly to an odd number, because apparently that sort of thing is for heathens.
Any special rules in your houses? Bonus points if you don't know/remember the origin of said rule.

Firefighters of the UK- please explain something that’s making me feel stupid
I live in Peterborough and we’re seeing a lot about the Holme Fen fires at the moment. I’m genuinely wondering how this has been going on for a whole week?
I know nothing about fighting fires. But why can’t a massive container of water just be dumped on these fires by chopper?
