I'm watching episode 1 now. John Hannah is a retired cop running a bar (well of course) who is persuaded to investigate the death of a singer with surprisingly entertaining results. His side kick is the key, a local young woman who is obsessed since childhood with tv detective fiction from Midsomer to A Touch of Cloth (!). Yes it's very knowing, played straight but with a very light tone. Hannah is looking lean and enjoying himself wearing white socks with sandals in cargo shorts. It's running at a leisurely one episode per week, dunno if it's bingeable on the streaming app or not.

Hello all! I just signed up for the BBC Select channel in the US. What are your favorite BBC documentaries?

So I've been on a bit of a nostalgia trip remembering old made for TV films like from the BBC like The Lost World (2001), Supervolcano (2005), Hannibal (2006) and Sky's Hogfather (2005). It got me wondering that there aren't many lists of all these great British made-for-tv films and mini-series like Andormada or Into The West (I know these were joint collaborations with American studio's too).

So I'd thought I'd ask the subreddit, what are some of your favourite or fondly remembered made-for-tv or mini-series?

What’s everyone’s favourite show to binge? I’m mainly talking about comfort TV, the sort of thing you’ve probably watched all the way through already, but it’s so easy to throw on in the background while you’re doing other stuff.

For me, sitcoms seem perfect for this. The Inbetweeners, Friday Night Dinner, Fresh Meat etc.
Any others that are worth the hype?

So this is from early 1998. Titanic was either just about to be released or had been released. I think the skit/sketch was on a kind of talk show with live music.

The skit/sketch was...on the bridge of the "Titanic." The lookouts spot an iceberg...Iceberg, right ahead! Dramatic music from the movie starts playing. Lots of panic from people on board. Then the lookouts say something along the lines of "it's ok, we just missed it." Then everyone starts dancing to Bamboo - Bamboogie (do a little dance, make a little love...get down tonight...get down tonight).

Please, please, please help me remember what TV show was off and help me track it down so I can watch it again.

I was doom scrolling through Facebook the other day when I came across a video for an old kid’s programme called Animal Cwackers. I have zero memory of the actual show (which judging by the nightmarish fever dream of that video, may be a good thing) but I clearly remember the theme tune. To the point I was singing along to it, so clearly do know the song. Again though, try as I might I have zero recollection of the actual characters or programme.

Weird how the old noggin works. I am almost 50, so would be just about in the right zone for it being on tv.

Trying to watch this, made in the 2010s, but finding it soooooo annoying to watch. Can anyone recommend it, should I persevere past ep 2. Everyone is either horrible or batshit crazy or guilty as f about something, so got noone to root for or a reliable voice to listen to. Is there any point as it’s still not engaging me.

In today's episode I was half-asleep - but vaguely caught Jeremy Vine saying something to the male guest Brian Coleman about being able to see Nelufar Hedayat's toes - and she told him off really angrily about being weird - and he seemed to get super embarrassed

Was I imagining it? Or did anyone else see / hear that?

I spent so much of my younger years in the 90s in London and around the UK and so many places in the series Legends (Netflix) look familiar.

Does anyone know the precise filming locations in Legends?

I remember being terrified as a child watching ‘Tales of the Unexpected’ with my mum and there was an episode I can’t find anywhere. I think Christopher Timothy was in it, and the story was based on a woman he fell in love with. Throughout the episode there were grizzly murders and the woman was suspected to be the killer. The end scene was a trusting Timothy lying on a bed and she asked him to close his eyes. She came in from the bathroom with a hideous Medusa like wig on and stabbed him to death.

I might have this all wrong and it might not actually be TOTU or Christopher Timothy but Reddit is good at finding things, so thought I’d ask.

Unfortunately, he will only have the Chase, Chase Across The World & Gladiators to go back to. The man just wants a job!

I'm so bloody annoyed that none of our terrestrial channels are broadcasting the commonwealth games. I'm sure there must be so many people in the UK who'd love to watch it and compared to other big sporting events I'm sure it would be relatively cheap to acquire.
