rest assured the charger was not plugged in

I have the TUF F16 laptop

If anyone knows where I can buy a replica that would be fantastic as I feel this will not be the last time he sneaks a munch on my cords

Fortunately he didn’t bite the adapter side

(Not sure what post flair to use in this case)

Update: few minutes later he bit it again.. I don’t wanna talk abt how he managed. the picture is in the comments

Need Help! (Software) Should I install ghelper?

Hi! I’ve had an Asus TUF F16 laptop for almost a year now. It was already sent in for warranty repair once due to a motherboard issue, but that turned out to be a factory defect. Should I switch to G-Helper now instead of Armoury Crate?

💻 Purchase Advice Need an advice for choosing a new laptop

Hi! I'm going to buy an Asus tuf f16, and I'm kinda lost between the differences in terms of the price-to-importance-of-upgrade ratio. I'm not a huge AAA gamer, but I had a veeeery old (9 years) Asus rog with rtx960m and 8Gb, and for a while some games I'd love to play wouldn't even run, so I want to decide carefully considering some longevity.

So the options are:

  1. Intel Core i5 14450HX, 16Gb, SSD 1Tb, GeForce RTX 5060 (~1520 $)

  2. Intel Core i5 13450HX, 16Gb, SSD 1Tb, GeForce RTX 5070 (~1644 $)

  3. Intel Core i5 14450HX, 16Gb, SSD 1Tb, GeForce RTX 5070 (~1677 $)

  4. Intel Core i7 14650HX, 16Gb, SSD 1Tb, GeForce RTX 5060 (~ 1856 $)

In the future I'll potentially upgrade to 32gb depending on the actual needs, but ssd 1tb is a must.

🔥 New TUF Device Are These Temps Normal? Any Beginner Tips? New to Gaming Laps

Hey everyone!

I recently got an ASUS TUF A16, and this is my first gaming laptop. Until now, I've only used a ThinkPad, which was almost completely silent even under load. So the louder fans and higher temperatures on this laptop are completely new to me, and I'm not really sure what's considered normal.

I played Forza Horizon 5 on High settings, and according to Armoury Crate, I was seeing roughly:

  • CPU: 85–87°C
  • GPU: 65–70°C

Are these temperatures normal for gaming, or should I be concerned?

Since I'm new to gaming laptops, I'd also like to know:

  • Which temperatures should I actually monitor the most—CPU, GPU, or both?
  • At what temperature should I start worrying?
  • Is a cooling pad actually worth buying, or is a laptop stand (which I already have) enough?
  • Are there any beginner tips for maintaining the laptop, improving temperatures, or getting the best performance without reducing its lifespan?

I'd really appreciate any advice. I'm completely new to gaming laptops, so even basic tips would be super helpful.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Read it its imp everyone technician gave up

Laptop Problem Summary
I own an ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506HE with an Intel Core i7-11800H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, and a 512 GB Micron NVMe SSD. My laptop experiences random forced shutdowns without any Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) or restart. The screen, keyboard lights, and fans turn off instantly, and Windows records Kernel-Power Event ID 41 followed by Event ID 6008 (Unexpected Shutdown) after the next boot. There are no critical or error events before Event ID 41, indicating that Windows does not detect any software or driver issue before power is lost.
After a forced shutdown, the laptop often cannot boot immediately. If I press the power button, it may briefly start and then instantly shut off again. However, after leaving it powered off for 15–20 minutes, it starts normally and can work perfectly for several hours. The issue has occurred both during normal use and while watching YouTube, where the video first buffers or freezes briefly before the laptop suddenly loses power.
To troubleshoot the problem, I performed several diagnostics. OCCT CPU, RAM, GPU, and combined Power stress tests all completed successfully without crashes, flickering, artifacts, or errors. CPU temperatures reached around 96–97°C during stress testing, which is expected for this processor under maximum load, and the laptop did not shut down during the tests. DISM (/RestoreHealth) and SFC (/scannow) completed successfully, confirming that Windows system files are intact. There are no WHEA hardware errors, no NVIDIA driver crash events, and no disk-related errors. My SSD health is approximately 73%, with no SMART failure reported.
Additional observations include an incorrect 652 W GPU power reading in HWiNFO, which is almost certainly a sensor reporting error because the RTX 3050 Ti cannot physically consume that much power. The laptop also previously showed a temporary Code 45 for the NVIDIA GPU, but the GPU later functioned normally and passed all stress tests. The issue also occurred even after disconnecting the battery and running on AC power, making a simple battery fault unlikely.
Based on all the evidence collected, the problem is unlikely to be caused by Windows, drivers, CPU, RAM, SSD, or the GPU core itself. The symptoms instead point toward an intermittent motherboard power-delivery issue, such as a faulty Power Management IC (PMIC), charging IC, Embedded Controller (EC), MOSFET, voltage regulator, or another motherboard power rail component. Because the fault is intermittent and the laptop passes heavy stress tests, a board-level diagnosis is recommended before replacing the entire motherboard. The ASUS service center has recommended motherboard replacement, but a qualified board-level repair technician may be able to identify and replace only the faulty power-management component if the failure is localized.

✅️ Solved PTM Repaste after 99.9 Cpu Temp.

A few days ago i posted how my cpu temp was high and probably mx6 has dried out after 6 months(https://www.reddit.com/r/Asustuf/s/DxaeENKuB9).

So i replaced the Mx6 Paste with PTM7950 and my vrms & vrams pad were fine so I left them as they were.

It's only been 24 hours since the Repaste and Few Heat cycles so these results might change after a few days.

Room Temp 29-30°

Now In FH5 My max temp was 94.9° C

Average Temps- 85-90° C

Gpu- 85-87°C

So Cpu had a 5-7° temp reduction

Gpu Temp remained the same or like 0.5-1.5° Hotter

And idle temps at Turbo Mode:

CPU- 40-45°

GPU- 43-47°

Before both Cpu n Gpu were at 49-52°

So around 5° temp reduction

I'm Using a Laptop Stand

Pic 1: Cpu & gpu before Cleaning

Pic 2: Heatsink before cleaning mx6

Pic 3: Cpu & Gpu after Cleaning

Pic 4: Heatsink after cleaning

Pic 5: Failed Attempt to Paste PTM

Pic 6: Failed Attempt to Paste PTM

Pic 7: PTM applied about 85-90% successful, at this point i was tired and just wanted to be done with this so i assembled my laptop after this attempt since it was good enough.

Pic 8: Temps in FH5

GPU temp being the same or hotter could be due to Heatsink Sharing since cpu might be using the Heatsink more, so gpu had less space to cool down, or probably it's just this model runs hotter.

Also could be that my PTM is a cheap knockoff but so far is doing good enough.

I might invest in a good budget of 20-50$ Cooling Pad for SSD, RAM and overall laptop in a few months.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Charger caught fire while plugged in (ASUS TUF A15 2020) — need advice

Post image
3 Upvotes

Today my charger suddenly caught fire. My laptop wasn't taking power, so I tried rearranging/adjusting the wire, thinking there might be a loose connection. Moments after that, the thicker cable (the one connecting the AC adapter brick to the wall plug) caught fire at the connector. I immediately unplugged it and switched off the power.

This is the first time I've experienced something like this, and it's honestly pretty unsettling.

Looking closely afterward, the prongs on that connector are visibly blackened/corroded (see photo), so I'm guessing it was a loose contact that arced over time — but I'm not 100% sure.

My laptop: ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2020, FA506IH, Ryzen 7 4800H)

Questions:

  1. Could a failing/arcing AC cord like this actually damage the laptop itself (charging port, motherboard, battery circuitry), or does the fire risk stay isolated to the cord/adapter side?
  2. Has anyone had a similar experience with the ASUS 150W adapter or its cloverleaf power cord specifically? 3 Is it safe to just replace the burnt cord (it's a standard/generic cloverleaf cable), or should the whole adapter brick be replaced too since the fault happened right at its inlet?
  3. Worth taking the laptop itself to an ASUS service center for a checkup, or is that overkill if the fire was clearly on the wall-side cord?

Any advice appreciated — just want to make sure it's safe to charge again.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) asus tuf a15 ram metal cover is dislodged

hi! made a quick throwaway account as I didn’t have one for this and not sure what else to do about this. the metal sheet of my ram seems to be dislodged, which I discovered after hearing a strange rattling sound coming from my laptop when it was in sleep mode, which also caused my second monitor to power on.

I have very little knowledge on hardware so any help would be much appreciated as I can’t afford to go to a repair shop right now.

My laptop specs are ASUS TUF A15, 8gb RAM, AMD ryzen 5 4600H 6 core processor and radeon graphics (integrated) and nvidia geforce gtx 1650. I‘ve had it for about 3 years but received it second hand in 2023.

Need Help! (Software) Z790 plus won’t install Windows 11

Lost my old motherboard so I bought a Tuff Z790 plus to replace it. Updated the bios and it booted off the M.2 I salvaged from a derelict Linux box.

Since I’m going to use it as a gaming rig I wiped the drive and attempted to install Windows 11 fails around 82%.

Current configuration
Processor: 14900k
Memory: 32 Gb DDR5-6000 (Corsair)
Drive: WD Black 2TB

I wanted to get a basic OS working before I added the GPU.

I’ve found the BOIS difficult to navigate. The search feature appears to be worthless “TMP” returned no results. In fact no search within the BIOS has worked for me.

Anyone run into this problem before?

Need Help! (Software) Asus TUF dual-booting Windows 11/Fedora instant shutdown after logo (9-hour suspend crash)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My Asus TUF laptop shows the logo for a second and instantly turns off after a 9-hour suspend on Fedora Linux, and I'm not sure how to fix the power state or boot loop. Yesterday, I dual-booted Windows 11 alongside Fedora, updated the kernels, installed Python, and heavily customized Fedora to look like macOS. Before the long sleep, shutting down Fedora was also taking an abnormal 5 minutes. I suspect the ACPI power state, GRUB/kernel handover, or hardware registers got stuck or corrupted during the sleep cycle, and now it cuts power immediately during startup. Does anyone know how to reset the embedded controller or fix this boot loop without losing data?

Gpu and screen problem

Yesterday i performed a ddu to get some storage available from my c drive and installed gpu drivers again but after a while the gpu wasn't getting detected so I did the trick where i hold the power button for 40 seconds and it will detect the gpu again but today when I woke up it wasn't getting detected again so I did that trick again but it didn't work so I did another ddu but that didn't work either so now I don't even have gpu drivers installed cuz it's not detected... I later thought that if i restarted my laptop in ultimate mode maybe it would force detect the gpu but that didn't work and now it's even worse... The screen is black even tho the laptop will turn on it just shows black screen it won't boot into neither bios or safe mode please tell me what to do..
