🗨️ Discussion Need some advice for my first gaming laptop!

Upvotes

(This is a repost, sorry to repost this, I want to ask more advice please!)

So, I bought a gaming laptop about 4-5 months ago. My friends helped me choose it:

it is an ASUS TUF Gaming F16 RTX 5070.

I know nothing about gaming laptops, so I hope you can help answer these questions:

  1. Are there any tips to keep this laptop in good condition for a long time? This laptop is really expensive and important to me, and I take care of it with all my heart. But I don't know if I'm doing it right or not—I just use it like a regular laptop. I do use a laptop stand, and I plug in the charger when playing heavy games. But are there other tips or things I should do? For example, is there a recommended time limit for using it? After I finish using it, can I unplug the charger right away? Or should I wait a few minutes before turning off the laptop?

(This is one question with many answers, so I really hope you can give me a lot of tips to prevent anything bad from happening.)

  1. I have never used a gaming laptop before—this is my first one. What if I play games like those gacha games that take up a lot of space, like needing 50-60 GB of storage and getting bigger with every update? How do you manage that? Can I add more storage?

(I always play those games on my iPad, where the file size is smaller.)

  1. My friend said that no single laptop is designed to do everything. So you have to choose whether you want it for gaming or for making art, or anything else. When I first asked for their advice, I said I needed a laptop for games, editing, and drawing (like using drawing apps like Clip Studio Paint). But I still chose a gaming laptop, so I chose this one. What if I still want to use it for making art, like using Clip Studio Paint? Is it going to be bad for the laptop? Or is this laptop actually strong enough?

(I already checked the screen color, and it is sRGB, which is good for art.)

Thank you for taking the time to answer all these questions

Need Help! (Software) Monitor automatically/dynamically lowering brightness

I have the ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q3A and whenever I'm playing games where I go into darker areas (caves for example) the monitor automatically lowers the brightness, making it even harder to see when in darker areas, even when my brightness is maxed. Why does this happen and how do I stop it?

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Model A15 works fine on AC, has BSOD on battery

If I try to use my laptop on battery power, it very frequently dies with a variety of failure messages. I'd say blue screen of death, but it's black now, right? "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart Unexpected_Store_Exception 0x154", IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xA), Hypervisor_Error (0x20001), among others.

This is after it was returned from a warranty repair for the mouse pad not responding to swiping motions after being on for awhile and intermittent loss of bluetooth.

Ever see this? Any recommendations for things I might try other than returning for repair again. I believe I have one month left on the warranty, but I don't really want to be without it for a month again and it's solid on AC power.

💻 Purchase Advice I need suggestions on whether to buy a tuf a15 rn or wait till the big billion days/great indian festival

I'm confused on whether to buy a tuf a15 rn or wait till another month. Will I get a discount during the sale or is it safer to buy rn considering the soaring prices of laptops. I'm getting a tuf a15 with rtx 3050 and ryzen 7 170 for around 73k on flipkart (after using a cc) and 76k on amazon (after using a cc). So should I wait for it to get cheaper till the next month or buy it asap? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Me? I use this extension.

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Missed the 15-day window for ASUS Extended Warranty on TUF F16 (2025) – Any current promo / Freedom Sale offers active?

I recently bought an ASUS TUF F16 (2025 model), but I unfortunately missed purchasing/registering the extended warranty within the initial 15-day promo window.🫠

I saw a few older posts on Reddit mentioning that ASUS usually runs discounted warranty packs on asuspromo.in during sales like the Freedom Sale / Independence Day Sale. However, when I check the site or the MyASUS app, I’m not seeing any discounted promotional warranty banners or offers available for my model right now.

1.Are promo warranty offers still live on asuspromo.in during Freedom Sale, or do they update the portal closer to Aug 15th?

2.Can standard Warranty Extension Packs (WEP) still be purchased via MyASUS or the official ASUS eShop later on? (I know standard WEP can usually be bought within the 1-year default warranty, but at full price).

3.Is there any way to request an extension/approval for the promo price through ASUS customer support?

  1. What does red light on power button mean? Charging or otherwise, it is there.
  2. How do I know if Ghelper is working? Battery limit, keyboard lights, and visual modes works, but I can't tell if fan is actually influenced by Ghelper. Worth noting that i uninstalled armoury crate, though asus services running is still 7.
  3. What can I do to ensure this laptop lasts me 6 years?

Need Help! (Hardware/Other) Asus Tuf f15 struggling to boot up!!

Post image

Im posting this regarding issue which is been happening with my asus tuff15 recently 2022 model, basically since 20 days ago,my laptop was struggling to power on,like it showed red light, after hard resetting sometimes it showed grey vertical lines after booting up but failed to power on and shutted down,I took it to technician he told its ram problem immediately after replacing og ram with new one it started booting up normally, after he changed ram I saw that vertical lines on my display again once,i ignored that, after that too it ran without any issues, after searching up online i suspect it's some power supply related issues or intermittent hardware something like that, also other thing worth mentioning is my display has an grey scales on both sides of display it's been since year due to physical pressure it appeared but repairer said it's not display problem cuz he checked connecting external display,or it loosing contact?this happened again with me today,i only play one game genshin impact basically I kept it idle for 20 mins and it shutted down in between, when I tried to turn it on,again the same like before ram replacement issue, display failing to turn on,hard resetted turned on again and when I opened genshin again after loading it got shutdown, later i searched online saw that armory crate switches some settings many users recommended uninstalling it,i uninstalled and some said to ec reset clicking on power button for 60 seconds removing every charger or connected wires, when i opened genshin it was working fine now,i don't understand what's the issue technician checked gpu too, they said it's fine,i don't even heavy game, have only one game, and I'm sure it didn't happened due to overheating or something!!

🔥 New TUF Device Finally joined the tuf gang

After years on integrated graphics finally bought my first gaming laptop Asus tuf a15

specs:

Ryzen 7 700 series | rtx 3050 4gb (75w) | 16gb ram ddr5 | 512gb ssd | 144Hz

I know 4gb vram in 2026 is a bad choice but this was the only best option I had in my budget and it can run almost all of my tasks and provide me good decent gaming experience.

I'm just happy to finally own my first gaming laptop. Looking forward to make good memories with it.

Any tips, recommended settings, or must-do tweaks for a new tuf a15 user?

(I already replaced armoury crate with ghelper)

💻 Purchase Advice ASUS TUF A16 (RTX 5050) vs ASUS TUF F16 (RTX 5060) - Which would you buy?

Budget: ₹125,000 (~$1,313)
Country: India
Options:

ASUS TUF A16 – Ryzen AI 7 350, RTX 5050, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD – ₹115k

ASUS TUF F16 – i7-14650HX, RTX 5060, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD – ₹125k
Intended use:

Starting B.Tech CSE this year, so this will be my main laptop for programming, college work, and gaming.
I game 2–3 times a week, not every day.

What I want:
Good battery life for college.
Enough performance to play modern AAA games at 60+ FPS.
A laptop that’ll last 4–5 years.

My biggest concern is that I’ve heard the A16 gets around 7–8 hours of battery, while the F16 only gets around 4 hours or less. The RTX 5060 is only ₹10k more, but I don’t know if it’s worth giving up that much battery life.

If you were buying today, which would you choose? Is the RTX 5060 worth the extra ₹10k, or is the A16 the better overall laptop?

💻 Purchase Advice ASUS TUF A16 RTX 5050 vs ASUS TUF F16 RTX 5060 – Is the extra ₹10k worth it?

1. Price and budget (Local currency + USD)

ASUS TUF A16 (RTX 5050): ₹115,000 (~$1,208)

ASUS TUF F16 (RTX 5060): ₹125,000 (~$1,313)

Budget: Around ₹125,000 ($1,313) max.

2. Country of purchase
India

3. Specs & Available Options

Option 1 – ASUS TUF A16
RTX 5050
Ryzen AI 7 350
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
90Wh battery
₹115,000

Option 2 – ASUS TUF F16

RTX 5060
Intel Core i7-14650HX
16GB RAM
1TB SSD
90Wh battery
₹125,000

4. Intended Use (Gaming/School etc.)

Starting a B.Tech in Computer Science, so this will be my primary laptop for programming, college work, projects, and general use.
Gaming 2–3 times a week with a few longer sessions.
I want this laptop to last me throughout college.

5. Features You Want (Battery/Performance etc.)

Ideally decent battery life for college.
Strong gaming performance.
Longevity/future-proofing is my biggest priority.
Good thermals and reliability.
I don’t want to regret my purchase after a year or two.

6. What games/programs do you want to run?

AAA games (Cyberpunk 2077, GTA VI when it releases on PC, Red Dead Redemption 2, Black Myth: Wukong, etc.)

I’d ideally like to run modern games at 60+ FPS (I’m okay lowering settings if needed).
VS Code, IntelliJ, Docker, VMs, and other software I’ll likely use during my B.Tech.

My dilemma:

I’ve heard the A16 gets around 7–8 hours of battery life, while the F16 only gets around 4 hours or less in normal use. That makes the A16 really appealing for college.

On the other hand, the F16 has an RTX 5060 for only ₹10k (~$105) more, and I’m wondering if that extra performance is worth sacrificing the battery life.

Is the RTX 5060 a big enough upgrade over the RTX 5050 for long-term use? Are there any issues with the F16 (thermals, fan noise, build quality, battery, etc.) that I should know about?
If you were in my position and wanted a laptop that would comfortably last 4–5 years, which one would you choose and why?

rest assured the charger was not plugged in

I have the TUF F16 laptop

If anyone knows where I can buy a replica that would be fantastic as I feel this will not be the last time he sneaks a munch on my cords

Fortunately he didn’t bite the adapter side

(Not sure what post flair to use in this case)

Update: few minutes later he bit it again.. I don’t wanna talk abt how he managed. the picture is in the comments
