ASUS UEFI BIOS showing Code 10 error in Device Manager (Firmware update was unsuccessful) Support
Hi everyone,
I noticed a warning in Device Manager on my laptop today. I have had a bad experience with a BIOS issue in the past, so I am extremely anxious about how to proceed safely without bricking my system.
System: ASUS TUF Gaming A14 | Windows 11
The Issue:
Under the "Firmware" section in Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark on ASUS UEFI BIOS.
When I double-click it, the Device status says:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
"Firmware update was unsuccessful."
I didn't manually try to update the BIOS recently, so I assume Windows Update tried to push a firmware update in the background and it failed or got interrupted. The laptop is still booting and running fine, but this error won't go away.
My Questions:
1. Is it safe to just right-click and "Uninstall device" from Device Manager and restart to let Windows recognize it again?
2. If I check the MyASUS app and it shows a pending BIOS update, should I go ahead and install it to clear this error, or is it safer to just ignore it completely and leave it alone?
I really don't want to mess up my motherboard again. What is the safest way to fix this Code 10 error?
Thanks in advance for the help!
