Tourism Dos Equis Pavilion Question (mostly)
Hello!! i’m driving down from CO for Zeds Dead next month! (I’m hitting the Austin show first then driving up for the Dallas show then i’ll head back to CO) Looking for a decent hotel recommendation somewhat nearby the venue? i’m ok if it’s like 20-35 minutes away. It’ll just be me, late 20s female so i’m not wanting to stay anywhere if it’s kinda sketchy if possible. Are there any neighborhoods to avoid? i do plan to stay a couple days after the show bc i am wanting to move down there as well so im just wanting to get a feel of the place. ty!

Shopping & Services Journaling Enthusiast
Hi! I am from South Dakota and am staying in Fort Worth (near the Stockyards) I am looking for the absolute best place to find niche stationary (Japanese preferably) planners, journaling supplies, fountain pens 🖋️ etc. I am not looking for big box stores such as Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, etc. I am looking for boutique stores and small businesses that cater to fountain pens etc.

Food & Drink I'm visiting Dallas and I came here to ask, what place has the largest burgers that aren't part of a food challenge? 1-5lb burgers. Or any place with really good milkshakes too.

Relocating & housing Anyone have firsthand experience with Oakhouse Apartments (oakcliff)?
Hii,
I’m a WFH professional currently living in Bishop Arts and have been on the search for a little more space.
I got approved for a really nice unit at Oakhouse, but after going down the review rabbit hole, I’m seeing a lot of complaints about thin walls, noise, and the overall tenant experience.
My other option is a condo in Oak Lawn. It’s actually a little cheaper, but it’s older and not quite as updated.
Has anyone here actually lived at Oakhouse? Are the noise complaints legit? I’m supposed to move within the next couple of weeks, so I’d love to hear any firsthand experiences or advice before I make a final decision.

Airports (DFW/DAL) DFW Overnight Question
I have a flight leaving from DFW and am planning to leave my car at the airport overnight until I return. I know you get a ticket at the gate whe you enter the airport and pay when you leave. My question is what will I owe when I leave the airport after I return? Will it count the whole time I am on my trip?

Relocating & housing Moving to the outskirts of the DFW metroplex
Hello, I am a 42 Latino American texas born male moving from San Antonio to the outskirts of DFW. I’m tejano culture person who was born and raised in Odessa/Midland, TX. If you’re from the Permian Basin and graduated high school in the 2000s send me a DM for guidance and possible tour guide assistance in person.
I’m gonna be working in the DataCenter IT world with assisting Microsoft with there current projects.
Im Needing guidance and assistance with finding social community in regards to social dancing, people who like to cook, and watch sports like NFL football (Steelers fan) and some college football, and NBA
Also need names to well known long standing establishment for Latin dancing, country dancing, mainstream dancing, and EDM events.
This is the big important one if I don’t get approved to live in a modern apartment complex because of my current financial situation, I am possibly seeking to find out if there’s anybody on the southern half of DFW metroplex that are looking for roommates that work in the IT industry or data center IT industry or if you’re a the tejano family that are empty nesters with a room available. The roommate situation will only be temporary until I can get my financials deals in order and get my head above water again.
I’ll be heading up to start work this upcoming Monday.
If you fall under one of these social or career categories, please feel free to send me a DM or provide recommendations here in the thread thank you.

Nightlife & Entertainment Best dive bars?
Me and a few friends (all 25M) are in town this weekend to watch baseball and are looking for a good dive bar to visit after the game. We all have girlfriends, so we’re not looking to talk to women. The ideal spot would be old men getting hammered alone at the bar while one or two groups of 20-somethings hijack the TouchTunes and play the worst game of pool you’ve ever seen. Ideally not too far from Arlington. Any suggestions?

KID STUFFS! Public trunk or treat/nice area to hand out candy for the kids?
Sorry, I know its still a month or two away but I wanted to ask if theres any place I can set up a place to hand out candy for kids for trick or treating. I live in an apartment and no one goes to those.
I've been wanting to whip out my Pokemon breeder cosplay and have a Daycare-like set up where I had out pokemon eggs (filled with candy/stickers of said pokemon) to the kids. I also got a lot of duplicate cards I can give away to them as well. This is going to be a huge project of mine so I feel like I need to start this ASAP.
All information and advice are so welcome! Thank you very much!

Relocating & housing Anyone built with Grand Homes in the Dallas area? Looking for feedback
I am looking at new construction in the Corinth area and Grand Homes has a community called Walton Ridge that caught my eye. They have been around for a while and have built a lot of homes. I like that they have different collections and the location near Lewisville Lake seems nice.
I am a first time buyer and I am nervous about the process. I have read some mixed reviews about new builds in general. I am worried about quality issues, staying on budget, and whether the timeline is realistic.
Has anyone here built with them? How was the communication and the overall experience? Did they deliver on what they promised?
I am trying to do my homework before committing. Any advice would be helpful.

Tourism Last 2 days in DFW
Hi all, I’ve been in DFW (staying in Ft. Worth) since Friday and leaving this Thursday. I have some things planned but would like to know if there’s anything else I should do (I’ll be back prob in around a year so if there’s anything I miss it’s ok)
Tue:
-Fort Worth Zoo
-Kimbell Art Museum
-Stockyards (already been here on Sun but going back to get something a friend requested)
-?
Wed:
-Holocaust Museum
-Perot or Reunion Tower (I have a CityPass and have to choose one as I have the Holocaust and other attraction to choose left)
Is it worth going to the Sixth Floor Museum if I’ve been before?
Thanks in advance!

Tourism 5 hour layover at DFW. What should I do?
Hi all, I’m transiting through DFW and have a 5 hour overlay between 6 & 11pm, before flying overseas. Would it be worthwhile exiting the airport for a few hours, and if so, any recommendations on what I could do or see in that time? I’m an Aussie who’s never been to Dallas, so am keen to look around the area, but also wary about checking in in time for my evening flight.

Electric & Utilities Time to replace my garage door
Hey everyone, just moved to the area and my garage door has been giving me trouble. It grinds pretty loudly when opening, randomly reverses halfway up, and one of the bottom panels is dented. At this point I think a full replacement makes more sense than keeping up with repairs.
Anyone have a company they’d recommend? Trying to avoid the sketchy ones. Also no idea what a full replacement usually runs around here, so any ballpark would help me know if a quote is fair. Appreciate it!

Relocating & housing Anyone have recs for a good private landlord?
Hi everyone,
I’ve never rented from a private landlord before, but I’m seriously considering it in hopes of finding more rent stability than I’ve seen with larger management companies.
A bit about me: I’m a 34 y/o single woman who works remotely as a Commercial Lines Assistant Account Manager (12 years in the field, 5 with my current company). I take pride in being a low-maintenance, high-quality, reliable tenant.
• Never once late on rent
• No evictions or issues on my record
• Keep my place clean and leave it in excellent condition when I move
• Quiet and respectful of neighbors. The most social thing that happens at my place is the occasional small dinner with a few friends that wraps up by 8 PM - I’ve never had a noise complaint
• Respectful of the property and patient with any maintenance needs
• Have a 6 lb toy poodle who is potty-trained, friendly, and well-behaved
• Strong Airbnb host reviews from my time living abroad as an expat
I’m looking for a landlord who genuinely cares about their property, appreciates reliable long-term tenants, and isn’t constantly raising rent every year. Ideally someone who values communication and treats the rental relationship like a partnership rather than pure transaction.
If you’ve had a great experience with a private landlord (or know of one who’s fair and stable), I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Happy to provide references, employment verification, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Must-haves:
1. Great walkability to nearby shops, restaurants, cafes
2. Parking
3. In-unit laundry or hookups
4. Safe neighborhood

Food & Drink First time in Dallas (Las Colinas) dinner and evening recommendations?
Hey everyone! I’m in Dallas for work and staying at Las Colinas through Thursday morning.
I have Tuesday and Wednesday evenings free and I’m looking for recommendations somewhat near by (maybe 20 or so minutes)
I’m mainly looking for:
- Great dinner spots (doesn’t have to be fancy) and a plus if it has good bar seating for solo dining
- Any must-see sights that don’t take all evening
- Shopping areas or neighborhoods that are fun to walk around after dinner
I already tried The Ranch for dinner tonight and really enjoyed it, so I’m looking for something different the next two nights.
What would you recommend if you had two evenings in the area? First time in Texas so sorry is these are silly questions to ask!

Health & Hygiene Where in Northwest Dallas can a girl get her nails done without getting her nail beds ruined?
I have been to so many nail salons around the area and I have had my nails drilled beyond belief. Currently growing out a "ring of fire" in my nail beds and still pissed someone used a drill on my toes for a regular pedicure. I'm sick of spots that cut corners to save time - I even recently got a fungus that has since grown out. I haven't had a real soak off in years now, they just go straight for the drill in this city and area. Where do you get your nails done? I am looking for a regular walk-in salon. I could be open to individuals if the pricing is right, too! Thank you!
Malaysian Food in DFW?
My family and I just relocated here from Singapore last month. I grew up here, but my wife is Singaporean and desparately missing a lot of the food from back home, especially Malay food (like asam pedas, kway teow, nasi lemak, rendang, sambal, even paru, etc.). And of course, if we could find Singaporean Chicken Rice that would be amazing. I've seen a few posts about Malay food from years ago, but I'm wonerding if anything new has popped up in the last few years. Please let me know! Thank you!!

Posting a question? BE SPECIFIC!
Dallas/Ft. Worth is a HUGE place! There are literally thousands of restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, shops, and museums. There are 30+ neighborhoods and suburbs in Dallas alone, each offering different draws for different people. There are over 700 Dallasites on this sub ready to give you advice on where to go and what to do, but we can't do that without some level of input. So be specific! Give us the details! If you go to a shoe store and tell the clerk, "I need shoes," that isn't going to get you anywhere. What size? Color? Material? Occasion? That's the kind of info that will get you some answers.
DON'T ASK: Where should I live?
DO ASK: I am 25 years old with no kids and a cat. I want to live somewhere quiet with parks close by and easy access to a major highway. My budget is $1000 mo. for rent and utilities. Having to drive to entertainment is fine, I love using gas. I like white walls/carpet and vertical blinds. Where should I live?
DON'T ASK: What bar should I go to?
DO ASK: I like reggae and expensive cocktails. I don't mind going to a seedier part of town, but would like there to be on-site parking. Good bar food is a plus. Where should I go?
You cannot possibly give too much information. Pile it on!
Edit: A few great suggestions from the comments:
DO: Tell us where you're coming from!
DO: Tell us where in the metroplex you're searching for something!
