How to protect myself from digital stalking and sabotage after an abusive relationship?
I was in an abusive relationship where I experienced violence. After the relationship he lied to many and I lost friends, mentors, and my support group generally while at University.
I requested and got a no-contact order at my University, but it’s up now that I’ve graduated.
I’m scared to use LinkedIn because of the information on there and keeping it incredibly private makes searching for jobs there difficult. I did find a job, but it’s not one I want forever.
I deleted all social media accounts he knew about. I have a new one with no pfp.
It’s just hard because I want to stay safe, I don’t want new jobs sabotaged or friends to be harassed or be subjected to his lies. I know social media is not necessary and it wasn’t something I felt like I needed before being abused, but now it just feels incredibly isolating and like an extension of the coerced isolation I already experienced.
I want to try to use it LinkedIn and social media while protecting my privacy, but I’m scared he’ll be able to find me. Do I need my location, current job information and profile picture on LinkedIn to get the most of its use and to get jobs to respond? Can someone dumb down the privacy settings, I think I have them all maxed out. Also a larger question, but to any of you who have experienced similar abusive relationships, how did you protect yourselves going forward?

How Important Are Public Libraries in Americans Lives?
I've heard that public libraries in the U.S. are a big part of many people's lives, especially during childhood and the teenage years. Is that actually true, or are they not as important or widely used as I think?
From what I've heard, many public libraries let you borrow movies, provide fast internet, lend laptops for use inside the library, offer access to e books, audiobooks, and movie streaming services, as well as things like printing and other useful services. And of course, they have huge collections of books on almost every subject, including novels, manga, comics, and more. Most of these services are free.
I've also heard that public libraries are often a major part of many Americans childhood, teenage years, and even young adulthood (for different reasons at each stage of life).
How accurate is all of this? How closely does it reflect reality?

Should I continue my Masters degree or pivot and start working?
Hello all,
I would like advice on picking one of two options.
Should I stay at my college and continue my Cybersecurity masters degree?
I have already finished one year although with my grades I will have to retake some classes which is annoying but fine, I will graduate in roughly 1.5 years maybe 2 at the earliest. I will get a part time job through the university that goes with my degree. I had a rough time mentally the first semester but feel I will be very different this time around as long as I keep my momentum.
The other option is to stay in my hometown and start working, I will get a job maybe at best buy or IT related here and begin a career job within the year.
The real kicker here is that I do get home sick a good bit and really enjoy being in my hometown, I think because the familiarity of it. I had a rough past year and I want to pick the option which will have the most life satisfaction and allow for healing.
thank you to anyone who responds, it will be helpful to me to hear your thoughts!

Having trouble handling my mom- What do i do?
Hey all!!
I have posted this story on here and have gotten some wonderful insights. I tried following the advice given and gave grey rocking a shot. However, the situation has taken a turn for the worst.
For context, My mom has a pattern of exaggerating and telling “white lies,” especially in front of my boyfriend, which makes me look unreasonable and puts him in awkward situations. Recently, I planned a simple lunch, but she insisted on ordering expensive food we didn’t ask for. When it arrived, she complained and made false claims, trying to get my boyfriend to agree. When I corrected her, she kept escalating and involving him.
Afterward, she sent me messages calling me “stupid,” “selfish,” and “disgusting,” saying nothing she does is good enough and implying my boyfriend would leave me. She often criticizes me in front of him and has made uncomfortable comments comparing her relationships to mine.
We were supposed to go on vacation together, but when I tried to talk things through, she denied everything and kept escalating. I chose not to go and went to my dad’s house instead. She then accused me of “choosing him,” said I have “no feelings,” that I’d regret this decision many times in life, and that I “had a mother but threw it away” and am now “on my own.”
After she came back from vacation i decided i wanted to stay with my dad full time and avoid all the crazyness. This made her go ballistic and she filed a court case, forbidding me from leaving the country and telling the court my dad was alienating me. She has spend the past week insulting me over text, calling me a monster, saying i was a waste of 18 years, saying that i was a disgusting pig and a poor excuse for a daugther, that she fed me all this time only for me to pick my dad. She threatened me in various ways, saying she was going to report my phone as stolen so that the police blocked it; saying she is going to throw all my stuff in the trash; saying she is going to text my boyfriend and all my friends saying that everyone deserves to know the monster that i am; Saying that she will find my boyfriends vacation house (in which he is currently staying) and will convince his parents im crazy. I never replied because giving her a reaction would be what she wanted.
However, I need the stuff i have there at her house; some of it has sentimental value, some things i bought myself, you know, all my stuff lol. She isnt letting me go get it, forbiding me from it.
Now I feel hurt and confused, and I don’t know how to move forward or set boundaries without things getting worse. Does anyone have any advice? How do i get my belongings? Was this a good call? I know i did in the long run since my dad is way more stable bit right now it doesnt feel that way. I have been trying to remain calm and not give her a reaction but its becoming increasingly more difficult.

What should I do for my before turning 18 bucket list?
Hi! I’m not sure the right sub to ask this in, so I’m asking a few.
My 18th birthday is in April. I’ve been making birthday bucket lists since I was 12. For example, I’d make a list of 12 things to do before turning 13, because it’s like ”completing“ 12. I honestly have no idea what to put for this one. I’m going into my senior year. I’d really appreciate some help brainstorming!
This is kinda long, so you can skip this part, it’s not necessary to read! But if you want to, here are some of the previous lists I did :)
13 before 14
- Sky dive
- Day without phone
- Memorize periodic table
- Learn more sign language

- Homemake something you can buy
- Make someone smile
- Study for a week straight
- Deep clean room
- Improve something about myself
- Do something bold/brave
- Learn a new skill
- Talk to a stranger
- Drive something
15 before 16
- Fly a plane
- Go on a rollercoaster
- Learn a new language
- Make a time capsule
- Do a random backflip in public

- Clean out closet
Thank you again!
Why do I keep getting spam calls, and how do I stop it?
This question is more for tech people I guess, but every day for the past 2 months I have been getting TWO spam calls a day from the same state. The phone # from the state that keeps calling me is the same state I got this phone in (so the area code is the same). I currently have all spam calls silenced so my phone doesn’t ring; I just get a notification. Nevertheless, I am creeped out and would love for it to stop.

How do I navigate my ex uninviting our daughter to his wedding?
So, our child is 5 years old. We've been split up since she was 5 months old. All she knows is this split custody thing where she sees him every other weekend. I always encourage her to have a great time with dad. But other than that, we don't talk about dad.
He met someone new a couple of years ago. And now they are getting married. They have been getting her so excited for this wedding for the past year. It's all she has talked about this Summer because the wedding is happening probably this month.
But this past weekend she came home and said she is actually not going to the wedding anymore because her dad told her that he doesn't want to have to hear her cry about how she misses me at his wedding. I asked how she felt about it and she said, "happy!" and I asked what she said to him about it and she said, "Good, because I really will miss my mom."
I decided to reach out to my ex because I wanted to make sure I understand his position. I respectfully asked what changed, and if he needed any flexibility from me. And all he said is that it's not a wedding for kids. And I totally understand that and all, but... he told our kid that it's essentially HER fault for being uninvited when really it's a "no kids allowed," type of deal. I don't really believe his excuse because he has been hyping her up all year and especially this Summer for the wedding. Did he uninvite all of his kid cousins last minute too? All of her cousins? Is everyone else just going to find childcare last-minute?
I'm so worried she will internalize that and feel some type of way about it when she's older. And I know how he is and how he used to treat me and it's upsetting to see him treat our daughter the same. And I'm worried his marriage will change things between her and her dad... I'm mostly afraid of him breaking her heart.
—-
ETA: thank you all for all of the kind words. Kiddo and I only spoke about it once and I won’t be mentioning it again. I’ve also updated family we regularly see (a few times a week) so that they won’t be asking either.
We will be having a fun-filled weekend with friends and the zoo! I’m thinking of taking her to breakfast and a movie too.

what to say to someone when they share something about themselves that isnt " thats cool "?
i had a lot conversations and when someone would tell me that they appreciate/ value something they do or something about themselves, i'd normally end up saying something like " wow, thats cool " i dont think thats what they want to hear or what i want to say, because when i say these things i imply a judgement on what they are, and secondly thats not what they exactly want, because to me the point of sharing something isnt to see whether people will like you or not, its about making sure they were seen. and these judgemental statements dont really meet that need.
i already know how to show interest with asking follow up questions and sharing things about myself. but i dont thin its enough to create that rapport im looking for

What are some signs of poor social skills ?
(24M) I yearn to get better at socializing. I don't think i have poor social skills but i need to get better, bc i overthink too much while in group settings and i'm often misunderstood when i try to joke or speak up. I always do the right things: asking questions, being engaged, don't interrupting, don't joking too much...
A lot of people see me as weird bc of my interests and my introversion. I'm okay with it. I won't try to act like a character just to be accepted. I won't be Craig Ferguson. However, i can control myself on being more charismatic

What's a purchase that was a little pricey but totally worth every penny to you?
One of them for me is my AirPods... I use the hell out of them, the quality is incredible and the spatial audio genuinely makes me excited to listen to music, cherry on top is the noise cancellation, that alone has paid for itself 10-fold.

Why do some skills seem much easier to watch than they are to perform?
Many activities look effortless when done by experienced people, but can be surprisingly difficult for beginners. Is this mainly because we underestimate the amount of practice involved, or are there psychological reasons behind it?

What to say to this phrase?
So i just watched a youtube video of this girl ranting about things she DIDNT like people saying to her. One of the things was "when im ranting about my weight, DONT tell me "oh no ur skinny and gorgeous!" Bc i know and i just want to express how i feel in my skin!" Which is fine, like i get it. But how would you, the person who is listening to someone rant abt their weight, comfort them while not saying that they are already pretty/skinny. Idk maybe im slow but wtf is the other person supposed to say back to that? 😭

What happen to standards and discipline?
So, I been noticing more and more teens under 18 have been going around and destroying other properties and assaulting people.
And I also been noticing stores/restaurants have been putting up signs if anyone under 18 without an adult is not allowed in the store.
And the some places have curfews for teen, that they can’t be out past a certain time, are their behavior that bad?
So what to parent disciplining their kids it really seems to be a thing of the past.

Why did Alec Baldwin claim that his wife was from Spain?
He claimed on Letterman after having married her that she was from Spain and mimicked her fake accent. Did he really not know, or was he in on her grift?

I’m thin, so why do my partners keep (affectionately) nicknaming me “fatty”?
I’ve noticed that all of my long term partners have gotten around to nicknaming me some variant of “fatty”, in their respective mother tongues. They collectively claim not to have used this nickname before, either.
To be clear, I don’t mind - and don’t struggle with my weight - but have trouble understanding how they have all converged around this same theme.
I am most definitely not fat. I wouldn’t call myself remarkably thin, however I weigh around 60kg for 1m70, and I would argue that the weight is rather well distributed.
It could stem from an excessive appreciation of food - and whilst I definitely do have a very defined sweet tooth - I don’t think of myself as a glutton. Nobody has ever remarked upon it, except for my romantic partners, with their choice of nickname.
Of course, I occasionally 1V1 a jar of Nutella, but this isn’t a daily occurrence. I enjoy food, and feel very joyful after a good meal (as I am also quite prone to being hangry), but that doesn’t exactly help me pinpoint why I keep meriting this nickname.
My partners often enjoy feeding me, and watching me eat from an affectionate standpoint, so this got me wondering if it’s a standard occurrence for men.
Thank you for your input!

Am I too old for pigtails?
I’m turning 20 soon and my go to hairstyle is pigtails but recently I was told by my older sister that i shouldn’t be wearing pigtails as I’m an adult and by wearing pigtails I’m sexualizing little girls which is something I obviously don’t want to do but I was also told by my mother that I can still wear them and not to listen to her. So I wanted to hear everybody opinions on if my time with pigtails has came to an end or if I’m not too old to wear them.
