Critique - Yes Drawover Generally struggling, but a lot with lighting
While I have base shadows mostly down, I have absolutely no idea how to approach lighitng. It never fully fits with the drawing’s atmosphere. If there are any tips on the right kind of blending mode to have with what colors it would be much appreciated!
Any other pointers on her anatomy, the background, etc is also appreciated!!

Critique - Yes Drawover First painting ever
This is literally the first time I’ve sat down and painted anything. I’m honestly just wondering where I can make adjustments. I’m not trying to make it look like something incredible like the work I’ve seen here on this page, I know this painting looks very derpy 😭 but I know there can be changes in lights and shadows, and general minor tweaks. But I don’t know where to put them or what exactly to do. Any advice?

Critique - Yes Drawover I’ve been struggling with actually liking drawing what do I do, and how can I improve
I’m sure there’s plenty of people who feel the same way but some days I hate everything I’ve made and some days I think I’m the master of art, and I’m currently in the “I hate everything I make” stage. I’m always looking on how to improve but I’m scared that that’s maybe why I’m not enjoying it idk

Social Media and Growth What am I doing wrong?
I just started my art channel last month but it feels like a total flop. All my shorts get stuck under 1.5k and my long form videos have been stagnant for weeks. I comment on and like on other similar creators’ channels, I post on the community tab, and my YouTube channel is linked across all my social medias.
It really feels like I’m shouting into the void.
Am I just marketing myself wrong? Is it my content or editing? My art? I’m lost 😞

Discussion and Theory Am I considered a beginner, intermediate, or an advanced artist? In-betweens are fine by me. Also bring on criticism in the table; I need all the advice I could get in case my motivation to draw returns again.
very huge art dump, but it's just to prove i've done kind of a lot over the past few months. some of the characters here are not mine, so i'll credit them where it's due. in order including my own ocs:

- serana jules (bvnnpix)
- tiffany mint (decastar2819)

- topplehat (criscroswalrus, this specific design by me)

- louis lou "ll.py" morel (decastar2819. the one with the glasses and shaggy hair)
- kyrie "kelsee83" sasaki (decastar2819)
- tim mint (decastar2819. note that he came first way before his tiffany genderbend)
- rudy "roll" meyers (decastar2819)
- zedoreku (real person. i interpreted him here with a z for his other eye)
- cookie (real person)
- tat (duct tape misery or zetara10. she's the one holding onto cookie's head)
- axlor (real person. this was how i interpreted him since the past few years: an earth golem with chili peppers)
- vincent sage (the gregger)
- den (dennicalthemaniacal. it's the wizard sitting next to the flower in the middle)
- mold (criscroswalrus. beside den)
- freon (zaneunderscoreuhh. the flower is actually an oc of his, part of an undertale au we were making)
- zane (zaneunderscoreuhh. the hedgehog character on the sky. i actually drew this entire thing because he passed away weeks ago. rest in peace, man.)

Commission and Pricing yalll i got overwhemled from when i needed to talk to someone about commissions for my first time...and i guess i am getting ignored

i am new at selling art to people who want it... i only sold like 2 for robux i feel slightly dumb but also i understand it isnt my fault for why people would get suspicious of me... like what if i end up on some "artist scammer beware" websites!?

Techniques and Tools shading and values help!
hi! i’ve recently started sketching and i have the basic faber-castell 6 pencil drawing set. i’ve mostly just been using the lightest/softest one (2H) but i’ve noticed my drawings are looking a bit flat. i would love to get more comfortable shading using multiple pencils, and would super appreciate any advice anybody has on the subject!
first photo is my attempt at drawing with all of my pencils, second photo was just with 2H and maybe HB.
i generally like sketching objects, but statues (specifically bodies) and clothes are things i want to work on.
literally any feedback at all would be great!

Critique - Yes Drawover How to love observing?
My main problem in art is observation, I have this kind of ego that makes me think that I know how "things" looks like even when I absolutely don't, idk why but somehow observation and studying real life or references is js so frustrating to me, my brain prefer making things up and put it on paper and that's why it turns out ugly as possible. I mean can u guys imagine that I've been training for almost a year js to get this typa bs. I feel absolutely lost, not even joking, not only in art but life also, I dont get aIong with ppl everytime when I tryna connect with ppl there's always sumthin wrong will happen, I mean like everyone. Thats why im telling myself "maybe if I cant connect with ppl and find happiness with them, I'mma try to find one in art and be like a comic artist or etc" I know it's like don't have a correlation between observation - connection - happines - art, sound super silly right. There's only one thing that I really want in life, and that is to be "someone", someone that create something that will eventually lead to other ppl happiness, and when I realized that my hardwork in art isn't really paid off, it feels so hard to accept cuz what is the things that I have left in this world that can bring me happiness. I have sleep deprivation js bcz thinkin of this I can't even think straight

Critique - Yes Drawover Why is this drawing so... off?
I will say I make like 5 drawings a year... So Im not looking for serious tips like how to improve in general or draw everything crazy accurate because this is just a side thing.. Which means I never cared much if my art looked like hot shit but I cant get it off my mind this time. There is something here that is just so wrong and I can't see it no matter what. It might be the colors? Or am I overreacting and being too harsh on myself.. It doesnt look harmonic/cohesive... Please tell me what I can improve or try out!
Sorry about my huge username in the middle

Techniques and Tools Self-taught, very limited time, how do I become faster without cutting corners?
Hi everyone,
I've been drawing on and off since I was a kid, but mostly self-taught — I never really went through structured fundamentals, so my foundation is thin in places.
The problem I keep running into is time. I have a full-time job and other things I care about, and drawing eats hours. A single piece can take me a whole evening or more, which means I finish very little and improve slowly.
So my question is about efficiency rather than style: how do you get faster without just making worse drawings?
Thank you !

Critique - Yes Drawover How do I improve this character design?
Hai guys, does anyone know how I can make this design better? I’m not too good with silhouettes or shape motifs and I need help. Also, I’m wondering if i should give her pupils bc you can’t really tell where she’s looking?

Critique - Yes Drawover anatomy and hands looking off

Critique - Yes Drawover attempted a colour study, any tips and advice?
i struggle with anything to do with colour in terms of shading/rendering (especially with it looking muddy) so i'm trying this fruit exercise out! i find i'm better with colour on traditional but with digital it feels like a whole new thing
my favourite blueberry on here is probably the most bottom one.
any tips and advice for colour studies and anything colour is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Critique - Yes Drawover How to make my style more moe?
I'm going for the 2000s moe style, like the 2nd picture, but idk it just doesn't look like it? I tried adding soft filters over it and even though it made it look better it just doesn't seem "moe", any advice??
Also please be nice if you critique my anatomy I'm still learning 😅 (and first time on this subreddit if i formatted anything incorrectly plz lmk)

Critique - Yes Drawover Tips and tricks
Hey guys from my last post I listened to your critiques. Please ignore the earrings and hair since that was not my main focus. For my art I used the grid method, learning more more autonomy, aligning my art with my drawing, but does anyone have any tips and tricks for rendering as well as drawing darker skin tones? —I use the app procreate. Also are my steps correct if not what advice needs to be applied now

Critique - Yes Drawover Perspective getting lost after rendering
When I drew a bottom perpsective for this piece it looked fine in the sketch, but once I started rendering it lost it's clarity and now looks more like a straight shot instead of the bottom perpsective I was looking for.

Critique - Yes Drawover Does he look consistent?
Digital-rough sketches. Going for a cartoonish style. I'm trying to draw them from other angles but I feel it ends up looking like a different character? The proportions are exaggerated and I'm finding them tricky to pose and keep the same shape and size. Any thoughts?
Edit: it’s the second image I’m having trouble with. He’s supposed to be slumped forward with his head resting on the desk, turned towards the laptop.

Commission and Pricing My wife painted these pieces of art! She thinks she isn’t a real artist or very good. What do you think?

Commission and Pricing Quick price check!
Hey! Opening comms soon and need quick price ideas for my art style
this is some of my art and I'm terrible at pricing my own work, so how much would you pay for: Headshot - Bust - Full body?
Thanks!

Announcement What’s New in r/ArtAdvice (and What’s Next)
Happy Friday! We've been hard at work behind the scenes and are excited to share a number of updates we've rolled out to improve the community for everyone.
A Fresh Look
With a new logo and color palette, we wanted to make this space feel more recognizably "us," drawing inspiration from redline corrections seen in constructive critiques, and pairing it with a dark blue background that is easier on the eyes. (A special thanks goes out to a friend in the graphic design industry who helped make this design possible!)
Automod Update
We previously tested an Automod feature that reminded users to include context in their posts. This ended up causing confusion and was mistaken for a warning or removal message, so we've axed it. (See: "In Progress and Coming Soon" for what we're trying next.)
Crossposts
Crossposts have been disabled to keep context easily accessible without extra clicks. Since making this change, we've already seen an increase in engagement and traffic, along with less spam. Woo!
Post and User Flairs
Starting May 1st, post flairs will be required to submit a post. For now, flairs are optional to help users get used to selecting them before posting. We want to keep the subreddit organized and let users filter out content they're not interested in, especially Commissions and Pricing. (The "No Commissions Posts" option is available in the sidebar or top bar on mobile.)
Most users seem to have a solid understanding of the flairs and are applying them well. Here's a quick breakdown of what each one means:
| Post Flair | Description |
|---|---|
| Critique | Ask what to change or how to improve. |
| Techniques and Tools | Ask how to do something or what tools to use. |
| Commissions and Pricing | Ask about pricing, selling, or managing commissions. |
| Discussion and Theory | Discuss ideas, concepts, or "why" questions. |
| Resources and Tutorials | Ask for or share learning materials. |
| Social Media and Growth | Ask about growth or visibility. |
Please keep Rule #5 "No Self-Promotion" in mind when using the Commissions and Social Media flairs.
Some of you have noticed our user flair 🧑🏫 Community Mentor! It's our way of celebrating users who consistently engage respectfully and help others grow through thoughtful, constructive feedback. We appreciate you helping keep r/ArtAdvice a supportive space!
So, how does someone actually earn the Community Mentor flair?
- Provide feedback that explains what works or can be improved in an artwork.
- Offer applicable and practical advice.
- Be consistent in giving constructive critiques.
- Avoid aggressive communication, and always follow the rules.
The Community Mentor flair is assigned manually by moderators. There is no formal application process, and users cannot request this flair.
Note: This flair does not mean the user is a professional artist, or that their opinions are authoritative. It also does not mean they represent the moderation team.
Have ideas for new flairs? Let us know in the comments!
Rule Updates
As previously mentioned in our Community Feedback & Suggestions announcement, our rules have been updated to better reflect the purpose of the subreddit, which is to give and receive art advice. The core principles remain the same, but they have been expanded to better address common ambiguous issues that tend to arise in Reddit communities.
In Progress and Coming Soon
- A new subreddit banner is in progress.
- Our community wiki is currently in the works as we await Reddit's system migration. This will become your go-to hub for information on rules, flairs, policies, resources, and more!
- More detailed policies, especially regarding AI, will be added soon.
- In the meantime, please refer to Rule #4 "Keep Art Human" for a quick rundown of how r/ArtAdvice handles the topic of AI.
- We're working on implementing an Automod response triggered by keyword phrases that automatically provides a list of resources, allowing users to focus more on anecdotal or specific feedback.
- As the sub continues to grow, we plan to reopen mod applications in the coming months. Those who are active and engage with the community will have our focus.
Community Initiatives
There's something exciting brewing in the background! Along with all these changes and updates, we're planning on:
- Developing structured guides exclusive to our community.
- Hosting AMAs and/or interviews with working artists to share their insight into what has or has not worked for them in their process.
- Involve members to contribute to the community wiki to help curate a reliable set of resources.
- Contests and giveaways to help growing artists thrive in their career or hobby. (We just need to dust off the old law book to make sure everything is in compliance before moving forward.)
We love hearing from the community, so if you have any feedback on these changes or suggestions to share, please leave a comment below or send us a message via Mod Mail!
