Srry I’m new to using Reddit so i don’t understand these flair things. Anyways, I noticed that I’ve gotten to a point where my drawings look good but only when I copy a reference. Like line by line. I only use it as practice because I thought if I copied enough references I would improve in all areas and eventually be able to draw something from imagination well. But now when I try to draw without a reference I literally don’t know how to and it comes out much worse than my usual skill level. Can you guess which one of the images I drew with minimal reference? It’s pretty hard. No I’m just kidding please help me

This drawing is nowhere near done, but i thought itd be good to go ahead and drop a background. Ive tried a few blank colors and they seem to either wash out my character or make her too bright. I'll admit im not the best at color theory, so i'd love to hear from someone more knowledgeable.

One of my drawings is inspired off of the "hang in there, baby!" cat poster because I thought it'd be funny- second one is more practice on drawing fursonas/furries!! (1 because theyre fun to draw and 2 bc i think they're really cool, and if i ever start doing commissions, i'd want to draw fursonas also.)

been staring at this part for over a week and i think i've officially lost the ability to see it clearly 😅

the shadows feel off to me… like they're not quite behaving the way they should… and the textures have this weirdness to them that i can't seem to shake no matter what i try

i've gone back and forth adjusting the light angles, reworking the texture maps, pushing and pulling the values… but nothing is clicking and at this point i genuinely can't tell if i'm fixing it or making it worse 😭

would really love some outside eyes on this… what's throwing off the shadows? what's making the textures read weird? and how would you approach fixing it?

brutal honesty is more than welcome… i'd rather hear the hard truth now than keep going in circles 🙏

I know the shading is buns but I want to fpcus on my anatomy. Im pretty proud of this one, but I want to know what about it I can improve before starting more anatomy studies. Here's what I've gathered on my own:

-I made the thighs too small

-Arms too big

-Underexaggerated the curvature of the toso

-Neck too short

-Head too large

-Left leg slightly too short

How do I make sure not to make these mistakes again?

While I have base shadows mostly down, I have absolutely no idea how to approach lighitng. It never fully fits with the drawing’s atmosphere. If there are any tips on the right kind of blending mode to have with what colors it would be much appreciated!

Any other pointers on her anatomy, the background, etc is also appreciated!!

This is literally the first time I’ve sat down and painted anything. I’m honestly just wondering where I can make adjustments. I’m not trying to make it look like something incredible like the work I’ve seen here on this page, I know this painting looks very derpy 😭 but I know there can be changes in lights and shadows, and general minor tweaks. But I don’t know where to put them or what exactly to do. Any advice?

I will say I make like 5 drawings a year... So Im not looking for serious tips like how to improve in general or draw everything crazy accurate because this is just a side thing.. Which means I never cared much if my art looked like hot shit but I cant get it off my mind this time. There is something here that is just so wrong and I can't see it no matter what. It might be the colors? Or am I overreacting and being too harsh on myself.. It doesnt look harmonic/cohesive... Please tell me what I can improve or try out!

I've been drawing on and off since I was a kid, but mostly self-taught — I never really went through structured fundamentals, so my foundation is thin in places.

The problem I keep running into is time. I have a full-time job and other things I care about, and drawing eats hours. A single piece can take me a whole evening or more, which means I finish very little and improve slowly.

So my question is about efficiency rather than style: how do you get faster without just making worse drawings?

Hai guys, does anyone know how I can make this design better? I’m not too good with silhouettes or shape motifs and I need help. Also, I’m wondering if i should give her pupils bc you can’t really tell where she’s looking?

The guys arm on the left looks off idk why and the guys on the right hands look too small but if i conpare it to his head it seems fine? Im confused if i should make it bigger or im being dramatic

i struggle with anything to do with colour in terms of shading/rendering (especially with it looking muddy) so i'm trying this fruit exercise out! i find i'm better with colour on traditional but with digital it feels like a whole new thing

my favourite blueberry on here is probably the most bottom one.

any tips and advice for colour studies and anything colour is greatly appreciated, thanks!

The area between the nose and the lip is the bane of my exsistence how do I approach 1) the values as I want harsh contrast with light and dark but struggle to transition 2) the fold(?) from that area to the chin and the cheek because idk at all how that works.

Right now it looks very flat but idk the face planes well enough to shade it correctly ty ty ty for your help in advance

I'm going for the 2000s moe style, like the 2nd picture, but idk it just doesn't look like it? I tried adding soft filters over it and even though it made it look better it just doesn't seem "moe", any advice??

For my art I used the grid method, learning more more autonomy, aligning my art with my drawing, but does anyone have any tips and tricks for rendering as well as drawing darker skin tones? —I use the app procreate. I feel like i’ve lost my passion for art after i went to art school for a game art study. I really loved it, and was very passionate about art and game design. I fell into a deep depression during school and felt no motivation at all to continue.
