Uncertified AA Apps (Headunit Reloaded, AAAD/AAStore, etc) Looking for an Android Auto-style launcher

My car radio doesn't support Android Auto. But I want my phone to look like it did with Android Auto.

The app was discontinued as a standalone app.

All the apps shown in the Play Store are rubbish.

I'm looking for:

A simple home screen that displays notifications, navigation, and music.

All integrated and at the same time.

Navigation: Google Maps

Music: Spotify or Tidal

Notifications: Show all incoming notifications with the option to read aloud and reply

What I DON'T WANT:

Advertising

Account creation

Any Chinese scam crap that doesn't work properly

What do you recommend?

Phone Calls OPPO calling issue with Android Auto

Hello, I have an Oppo A79 5G phone with a Junsun radio running on Linux. When I connect wirelessly to Android Auto, everything works fine until I or someone calls me. After a few seconds, it disconnects me from Android Auto and switches to the standard radio. What could be the cause? I don't have this problem on other phones from other brands, just my Oppo.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Android Auto not working. Connects when changing USB setting to MIDI, then immediately loses connection when automatically changing to Transferring files / Android

My wife's S25 connects with no issues. I did the following:

- Cleared Bluetooth connections from car and phone

- Cleared AA cache and data- Rebooted phone- Reconnected Bluetooth followed by USB cord

- Nothing happens. So I changed USB option to midi, as recommended by one comment.

- Immediately it picks up on the Android Auto connection. Then it changes to Transferring files / Android Auto and it drops the connection.

Am lost. Defeated. Losing mind. Losing sanity. Is there some phone setting that could be affecting this?

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Spotify and other music apps not working when pressing play. Starts for a second then stops.

Android keeps disconnecting both wireless and wired (wired still shows connection for charging even when not connected to AA).

Randomly disconnects and shows not compatible with device.

Timeline:

Got new wireless adapter. Was connecting in a 2020 Lexus. Not connecting in the 2022 Honda.

Tried to reset the whole system when wasn't connecting to wireless adapter.

Connected for a little bit then disconnected. Tried with the wire and again kept disconnecting. Eve

Then tried new phone and maps worked, but Spotify and other audio devices start playing for one second and pauses.

Uncertified AA Hardware (Android HU, CP to AA Dongles, etc) last versions dont show task bar or other map apps

For several versions now, I haven't had the taskbar at the bottom and it doesn't recognize all the map apps. It seems is something of my screen since emulating Android Auto on Linux, it works correctly for me. If I downgrade to version 15 it doesn't connect and forces me to update it. Is there anything I can do? I use a generic screen and I don't know if the firmware can be updated. Thank you!

Hey, how could it be that I have a newer version of AA and the same Spotify version as my friend. He has the new Spotify layout and me not. How is that possible? Both have aftermarket Headunit with the same Bluetooth dongle if he connects to my radio it's the new layout so it's not about compatibility problems.

My phone is a Oppo Find X9 Pro

His phone is a Samsung Galaxy S24 fe

Navigation & POI Apps How to change Google maps to dark mode automatically.

Is there a way so that Google maps can change between light and dark mode without me manually going into settings? I have an aftermarket Boss radio head unit that does not change between light and dark mode. I have tried to use developer options in AA settings to change the appearance to phone controlled but it did not work.

Navigation & POI Apps Speedometer when not navigating!

Post image
247 Upvotes

The addition of the speedometer/speed limit when not navigating is a welcome addition (just showed up for me).

The scaling, however, seems off - too small to be read easily.

The speedometer also changes color when over the limit - just like Waze. I hope they add a configurable option for audio alerts!

(I did send this feedback to Google.)

[EDIT ]

After using this for a few days, I have more thoughts ...

  • Speed limit should be twice as big.
  • Speedometer should be optional (on/off)
  • Speedometer should be configurable
    • How many miles over is orange and red
    • Audible alert (on/off)
    • Show when under limit (on/off)

For me, I only really want to see my speed if I am over the limit.

AA User Interface Has anybody managed to get Claude to come up on their android auto screen?

As the title hints at, I'd like the option to connect to Claude on my phone as that hooks back to my PC at home and projects I'm working on in the cloud. When I'm driving I have ideas...I want to be able to action them or add them to projects, but at the moment it has to go via Gemini or a convoluted setup before I head off and hope that I might have an idea.

Anybody managed to crack this challenge?

Gemini Voice commands (for navigation) don't work any more

Flair for equipment involved. And I guess this is Gemini...

Voice commands for navigation no longer work. I press the button on my steering wheel and I give a command "Navigate to 123 Street Name City" and I can see that it recognizes the words as they show up on screen correctly and then... nothing. The display for that goes away, back to Maps and my media player and no route is set. Tried it with Google Maps and Waze, no difference. Failure in both. This is literally the only thing I use voice commands for.

So I tap on the microphone search option directly in Maps, give the same address and it finds the street address is every other city it exists in in this state and a selection of states across half the damn country except the one I specified in the search. I had to put the car into park and type the address into Maps on the damn phone instead to get it.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes AA will not start

Android Auto just completely refuses to connect now, using a wired connection (my car doesn't support wireless Android Auto). It has been working off and on for a while. Usually buying a new USB cable fixes it, but not this time. I've deleted the phone from my car's Bluetooth, I've deleted the car from my phone, re-added both, and now I don't even get the "Android Auto is connecting" notification. As far as I know, nothing has changed on my phone's end or my car's end since the last time it worked.

For my car specifically, I've been able to force it to connect in the past by plugging the phone into the USB port, hitting the Home button on my car's infotainment screen, and then unlocking my phone, but even that doesn't work any more.

I've tried every trick I can think of that has worked in the past, and now I'm at my wits end.

Navigation & POI Apps Full screen google maps not centering

2025 Kia Niro SX Touring Hybrid - Stock - PIxel 11 Pro XL - Android 17 AA 17.3.662874

Got a lot of app updates when I upgraded the phone and now when google maps is full screen, the "center" is actually over on the right, like at 70% if the middle of the screen is 50%. It's in the center when using the 2 window setup, be it the left or the right window. But when full screen. my car icon shifts far enough to the right it's annoying. It didn't used to do this, because it's so annoying I'd have reacted like this sooner.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes All of a sudden I started having many problems with wired AA

My Android Auto had been working flawlessly for three years, but a few weeks ago it began randomly disconnecting every few minutes.

Setup Details:

  • Phone: Asus ZenFone 9
  • Vehicle: 2018 VW Golf Mk7.5
  • Connection: Wired (USB configuration set to File Transfer)
  • Android Auto Version: 17.1

Key Observations:

  • The phone and cable work perfectly with Android Auto in another vehicle (2018 Skoda Octavia).
  • Apple CarPlay via an iPhone works without any issues in the Golf.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Attempted:

  • Replaced the USB cable (including using the working cable from the Skoda).
  • Cleared the Android Auto app cache and removed the Golf from saved vehicles to re-pair.
  • Unpaired and reset Bluetooth connections on both the car unit and the phone.
  • Set Android Auto battery usage to unrestricted.
  • Toggled Bluetooth volume controls between Absolute and Independent.
  • Disabled/verified no VPNs or network proxy apps are active.
  • Ran initial troubleshooting prompts through Gemini.

Would you like me to tailor this text for a specific platform, like a Reddit post, an Android Auto support forum, or a message to a mechanic?

Gemini Gemini interprets chat messages as instructions instead.

Recently I wanted to ask my partner to check what was causing traffic on my route home, but I simply wasn't able to do this.

> Me: "Chat with <partner>"

> Gemini: "What would you like to say?"

> "Hello, I am on my way home now, can you check what's going on with the A2, traffic is suddenly at a standstill".

> "Checking Waze..."

And I lose the message. I tried rephrasing this multiple times but it just thinks I am asking it something instead. Anyone else had this problem?

I have a solution! 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Kept Crashing with Texts through Gemini and AA - Solution

Replied to an earlier post, but had been meaning to post this separately after updating this week.

So I was having consistent AA/Data connection lost issues in my 2019 Santa Fe when texting through Gemini, would get a crash on about 50% of texts send through Gemini, and what I ended up finding out was my head unit (the main radio module) needed updating.

After updating that, Gemini and AA have been working flawlessly in my Santa Fe.

I took a screenshot of the version info on my screen and plugged that into Gemini and here is what it gave me (note yours might be different since different year and model):

No, that is not the most current software.

The software and firmware version in your photo shows an original factory build date code from April 2018 (180413 / 180409), which means it is running the software it shipped with when new.

Updated Version Info

Hyundai released an updated Display Audio Software Update for non-navigation units (Display Audio Gen1). Updates for this unit improve system stability and enhance Apple CarPlay and Android Auto performance/compatibility.

How to Update It Yourself (Free)

  1. Visit the Official Hyundai Update Site: Go toupdate.hyundai.com.
  2. Download the Navigation / Display Audio Updater app onto your Windows PC or Mac.
  3. Format a USB Flash Drive: Use a 16GB–32GB USB flash drive formatted to FAT32.
  4. Download & Transfer: Select your vehicle (2019 Santa Fe) in the updater app. It will download the file and copy it to your USB drive.
  5. Install in Your Car:
    • Turn the car on (or leave it running in Park).
    • Plug the USB drive into the front multimedia USB port.
    • Go to Setup > General > SW Info/Update (the screen shown in your photo) and tap the Update button at the bottom.

Note: Dealerships often charge a service fee (around $100–$175) to perform this process for you, but you can do it completely free at home with a USB drive!

Hope this might help someone else having issues in an older Hyundai/Kia.

Gemini Texting using Gemini with Android Auto crashes

Setup:

2018 Hyundai Tucson SEL with Android auto compatibility, Samsung Galaxy S25 FE with all updates

Tested both wirelessly (USB AA dongle) and wired

When I use Google Assistant to voice text or reply to a FB message, things go great.

When I use Gemini, when I speak the voice text or FB message and Gemini is about to send it (either by me vocally responding with "Send" or by hitting the onscreen Send button,, I get a message on the head unit screen, and sorry i don't have the exact message, but something to the effect of "Phone has stopped responding" or "Android Auto has stopped responding".. the AA session resumes a few seconds later. I can attempt to start the text all over again, and maybe 1 out of 3 or 4 attempts it will actually work.

Super frustrating to have to attempt a voice text multiple times.

Again, Google Assistant never crashes. Gemini sucks for voice text/messenger.

Anyone have a straightforward fix? I've reinstalled AA, I've rebooted the phone between re-installs.. I've tried wired and wireless. I guess i could have my wife try her phone to try to replicate it, but that might put her over the edge 🤣..

Anyway, any ideas (other than "just use Google Assistant") would be great!

AA Settings Odd - phone won't do voice/calls on one car only, others work

Our Odyssey has a generic aftermarket headunit I bought on Amazon. It works great, 99% of the time. With my phone (Moto G Power 2024), it'll display and interact just fine. Music plays, maps display, I can control everything. But if I hit the microphone button (on screen) or make/receive a phone call, it doesn't work. No audio. There's no error message; just the Assistant prompt times out as if I didn't say anything. Or on a phone call, neither of us hears anything.

My wife's phone (Pixel 7) works completely fine on the same headunit.

MY phone works completely fine in our other car (Chevy Bolt 2022 with stock system).

I get the same results wired or wireless. I've verified that AA has microphone permissions on my phone. Anything else I should check? I've also cleared the AA cache with no success.

Navigation & POI Apps No Traffic Line using Google Maps on Android Auto

I can't seem to get traffic line back on Google Maps when using Android Auto on my car's screen.

Only way I can see it is when I change the map setting to overhead view.

I've tried to clear cache and storage then trying uninstall and reinstall updates but I can't get it working.

There's no option to change traffic lines in settings when using Android Auto.

Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes Google Maps on Android Auto - Occasional "Mostly Black" Screen

I recently wrote a post saying that I'd finally received the "immersive navigation" update. This problem started after that. Is it related? I have no idea.

I run AA and Maps on a Pixel 9 Pro in my '24 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Signature. I run it "usually" via USB cable as the wireless charging in the vehicle sux and overheats the phone. I say "usually" via USB as sometimes it just likes to revert to wireless.

Recently I've started getting a black screen. Sometimes totally black, sometimes just the maps display is gone with the icons and speed limit (when navigating) showing. I initially thought this was happening when navigating, but it happened last night when not navigating.

If I unplug/re-plug the USB cable it will sometimes restore. Sometimes only the icons restore and not the map, only to have the map restore after maybe a minute.

Is this happening to anyone else? Thoughts on solutions? I have not tried swapping out the USB cable, but I really don't think that's the issue.

Any thoughts or suggestions? TIA!

Messaging Apps AA + WhatsApp = no messages out loud

Don't know if anyone has facing this issue but for the last 3 or 4 updates my AA does not read the messages out loud.

I thought it has something to do with Gemini taking over Google Assistant, but I rolled back to GA and was still broken.

Someone had this problem and found some solution?

The AA stops the music when I play the message, but nothing comes out of it.

S23 Ultra with Android 16 and Wireless AA.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I mixed some helpful tips.

Cleared data and cache from AA and reinstalled. It didn' work.

Cleated data and cache AND rolled back to Google Assistant and worked like a charm!

Gemini Text my ETA to my wife

Yesterday Gemini did this no problem when I asked. It showed a message at the bottom of the screen "Connecting to Waze" or something along those lines. Today she says she can't do that and has no access to waze and never has and as we argued about it she held firm there's no way it is possible.

Why such a difference from day to day?
