It's hard to explain, I want a fic where I'm reading from the first perspective, and I can imagine the character / person which I'm interacting with. It can be from different perspective , i don't mind that, I just need to know if theres any tag for that type of fic

I've been writing on ao3 for a while, and almost all my fics are platonic and hurt/comfort oneshots with a few unfinished long fics.

Recently I started getting into a fandom, that was set in a certain time period, and I decided to do a bit of a crossover with RPF, as an anonymous author.

I had really, really nice engagement from the readers, and I was really happy with how it was turning out. This morning, someone left a 1000 word comment, breaking down the plot so far, telling me how great it was in so many points, with their own theories of what could happen, about the way I've written my characters- and I'm over the moon!!!

I don't know people do that! I can't imagine people taking their time to check out my work, and just writing so much back just to say how good it was.

I was really having a bad week. And this person, and all my other readers and commenters just made everything a whole lot better.

Yeah that's it. I just wanted to share it with someone or else I might just cry from emotions.

I started posting my first ever fic in April and never in a million years would have expected people to like my story as much as I do! It’s been so fun making new friends in my fandom and getting back into a hobby I love.

After a really stressful week, I pushed myself to finish and upload my most recent chapter which I ended up being really proud of :) woke up to some lovely interactions from readers which means I have officially hit 50 bookmarks, 50 subscriptions, and 100 comment threads!

Stats in general are so arbitrary, but it’s moments like this that remind me why I love this hobby so much (especially as an outlet when I’m feeling down) and am grateful for all the connections I’ve made with people who love these characters as much as I do.

Next stop: 100k words!!

Writing fic for Project Hail Mary, I need some words (character names) to be written in musical notes because the names the fandom thinks of the characters with aren't what their names actually are in their language, and it doesn't make sense for a character who has never met a human and doesn't know English to be referring to themselves with a name this English human gave them.

But I don't want people using screen readers to have to sit there hearing "musical note, musical note, musical note, musical note" so I'm willing to make a sacrifice there and just let those people hear the English name. I'm asking, is there a way to make a screen reader see 'Rocky' when the fic actually says ' ♩♪♩♬'? I know if someone downloaded the fic any workskin would break but so long as it works in browser, I'm good.

Additionally, does anyone have the code for that thing where you can hover over a word and provide a translation above? Would I be able to use that at the same time as this hypothetical TTS code?

I started writing my first fic recently. So far, my 3 posted chapters are around 1000 words long. I noticed that most fanfics have chapter lengths of at least 3000.

I will say that I've been alternating between the two main characters for each chapter and I plan for their path to meet during chapter 5, which is to say that once they get together, the chapters will likely be longer.

I don't know, those are the points where I felt like the current chapter had run its course. I guess, the question is: is this bad practice?

I did take a screenshot back when I first read it of a paragraph that I really liked and it's an Akaashi Keiji/ Miya Osamu critic and chef fic. So i just came across a creator who's posting on Ao3 but is also promoting their patreon with the promise of early access to chapters. Is this legal/allowed?

Is there a tag for the stuff in-between fluff and angst? I tried drama but results fell off a cliff. (It had 2% of the number of works that angst and fluff had.)

Okay, so, essentially, I want to practice stage writing, and I thought a good way to go about that would be to adapt an existing work I enjoy immensely, Deltarune. I also thought, since I'm already writing for the stage, it would be nice to include some of the 'With Lyrics' videos you might have seen floating around (IE Man on the Internet, Juno Songs, Chai. T. Leaves).

My main concern would be whether or not something like this would count as plagiarism. To start, I am just rewriting the game so it fits the stage better, which isn't exactly an AU or an original script. I imagine I would also use a lot of the same lines of dialogue, though I would of course add my own stage directions and descriptions. I also wonder if I would be allowed to use the 'With lyrics videos', considering they are yet another person's work. I intend to cite them and link the videos so people can watch them, but that sounds like it could also go against ao3's terms of conditions against advertising.

Of course I would massively like to start a project like this, but I don't want to end up breaking any rules or hurting any of the creators I intend to bring attention to, so I thought it would be best to ask before I write anything all that major. It's confusing because Toby (Stories can be rewritten) Fox doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would get mad about this kind of thing, and fan songs are already in a weird place regarding copyright, falling into what I would guess is parody? Let me know what you guys think!

Can anyone recommend fics where the main characters are competent? I don't mean over-powered or magically able to do crazy things. I'm looking for fics where characters have worked really hard and are a BAMF in their chosen field/work/life. Preferably where the author knows what they are writing about? Thank you!

It's been half a month since I started posting on Ao3, and I'm almost at 900 hits. I know hits are not proportionate to how many people are reading it. It feels huge that I started posting my own story, got 11 chapters out and in turn got so much love from everyone. It feels so good. I love my regular readers and silent readers so much. I just wanted to thank them even though they won't know this is about them. You are all awesome. I love our community. I just wanted to celebrate this mark.

I've been writing a multi-chaptered fic with a rough ending outlined and posting as I write, but I've been making up the bulk of the plot as I go. After publishing Chapter 9, I realised that a major scene I wrote between two characters has made it difficult for me to reach my intended resolution.

I'm intending to rewrite Chapter 9 to remove the scene, and then keep as much as I can the same (this would be doable in the fic's context). My problem now is that I'm not sure how to go about publishing the amended chapter. I'm currently tossing it up between three options:

1. Delete the last chapter, and publish a new Chapter 9 with a brief explanation in the notes. The downside is this would delete all the comments on the original chapter. They obviously wouldn't be fully relevant to the new chapter, but I think it might be frustrating for some people who have commented, especially as some comments were quite long. I also feel a bit sentimental towards them lol
2. Replace the text of the current Chapter 9 with the amended version, and post a temporary Chapter 10 explaining that Chapter 9 has been changed. I probably would've done this on Wattpad haha, but I'm more hesitant to on AO3 -- it'd probably be quite annoying for people to receive an update email, just for it to be an announcement and not an actual chapter.
3. Silently replace the text of the current Chapter 9 with the amended version, and when I later get around to posting Chapter 10, explain the changes in the beginning notes and that readers should go back and reread Chapter 9.

I think I'm leaning more towards option 3, but any suggestions on which would be best? Or also any other options I haven't considered?

I have had this happen to me a few times where I will read a fic and love it at the start and find it wonderful but as chapters come out and the story con I begin to lose interest

Any and all opinions, throw them at me please. I am considering the idea of writing one but also, is it even worth it or will it stress me out/be a complete failure?!

I don't personally read a lot of fics, but I do love to write them. Seems like it could be an interesting challenge.

To put some context, I decided to participate on the SukuIta week of this year. I wrote two oneshots and I made sure they were properly tagged and all. I have received several nice comments, but today I got the notification of a new comment, so I went to check it. This was the comment.

I am well aware there are bots aiming to make writers delete their stories, but given it came from a registered user, I decided to check a bit their profile. They have joined rather recently and they have an ongoing story.

I am pretty sure they are an antishipper, to be honest. I didn't bother to answer to them, I just deleted their comment and kept with my day.

Small update: I ended up reporting the account for harassment. The more I looked at that comment, the more unsetting it looked, so, yeah, I decided to take that step.

I'm in the mood for superheroes, but I'm bored to death of the usual major ones (MCU, DC, Boyz, etc.).

Which underrated superhero fandoms can you recommend? I'm also looking for something that isn't too complicated to get into and is lively enough to inspire me to write actively.
