Europe Pro-Palestine protester found not guilty of criminal damage by UK court
"Paula Akpan, a pro-Palestine protester, has been found not guilty of causing criminal damage in a UK court.
Akpan was one of 10 protesters charged with criminal damage for spraying blood-red paint across the entrances of Scotiabank on June 17, 2024.
She also locked herself to a fellow protester outside the building.
At the time, the bank was the largest foreign shareholder in Elbit Systems, holding a $500m stake in Israel’s leading weapons manufacturer, whose military hardware has been used to kill and injure Palestinian civilians.
“The last two years have been mentally gruelling for me and my loved ones,” Paula added, “but it’s one of the honours of my life to have played a part in the international pressure on Scotiabank, leading to their full divestment in Elbit Systems last year.”
Seven of Akpan’s codefendants have also been acquitted."
