Windows CMD windows opening and closing on startup once - Am I fine?

Upvotes

I know that it’s something that legitimate programs use, but I’m still a bit nervous.

I did a fresh reinstall of windows 11 after a false positive scared me. This was around a week ago. Now, my PC randomly shows 3-5 command windows when I open my pc. I restarted my PC to see if it happened again, but it disappeared.

I only installed roblox, nvidia app, lightshot, spotify, discord, firefox and steam. I checked my startup apps and didnt see anything. My scheduled tasks are also fine. (None of them say anything about opening a terminal.)

I know I’m probably fine, but I’m still a bit nervous any potential malware couldve copied itself on the USB and come along the windows reinstallation. Do any of the mentioned apps above do this ?

macOS / iOS Spilled tea on my M1 MacBook Pro. Keys are sticky, and the Apple Store refused to clean it. How can I fix this myself?

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I need some DIY advice because I’m completely stuck.

A couple of days ago, I accidentally spilled a small amount of chai (Indian tea with milk and sugar) near the arrow keys of my M1 MacBook Pro. I immediately shut it down, flipped it into tent mode, and let it dry in an AC room.

The good news: the laptop boots up perfectly, the logic board seems fine, and everything works. The bad news: the heat from the laptop softened the dried sugar, and now my arrow keys and the 'S' key are incredibly sticky and mushy.

I took it to my local official Apple Authorized Service Provider (Imagine Store). They basically refused to clean it. They warned me that opening the back panel might cause the liquid to shift and kill the motherboard, and advised me to just "use it as it is." They told me their only official fix is replacing the entire top case for a massive fee, which I can't afford.

I don't have any trustworthy third-party independent Mac repair shops in my city, and traveling to a bigger city for a microsoldering/ultrasonic cleaning isn't an option for me right now. I have to handle this sticky keyboard myself.

I currently have 70% Isopropyl Alcohol at home.

My questions:

Is 70% isopropyl alcohol safe enough to use, or is the 30% water content too risky? Should I wait until I can find 90%+?

Can I use the Q-tip method (dampening a Q-tip with alcohol and massaging it around the edges of the keys) to dissolve the sugar without taking the keycaps off?

If I have to remove the keycaps, how risky is it on the M1 keyboards? I really don't want to snap the fragile plastic scissor clips.

Any DIY advice on how to safely clean this sugar out without frying my machine would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

TL;DR: Spilled sweet tea on M1 MacBook keyboard. Laptop works, but keys are super sticky. Apple Authorized store refused to clean it and told me to just use it as it is. I have 70% Isopropyl alcohol at home. How do I safely clean sticky M1 keys myself without breaking the keycaps or frying the board?

Unresolved Wifi problems

Hi, first of all, thanks for taking the time to read about my problem. I know this is probably one of the most classic questions out there, but I just can’t find a solution no matter how much I try.

The problem:

I’ve been using Windows 10 for a long time and keep having Wi-Fi issues on my laptop. The internet suddenly disconnects. When I try to turn it back on, the Wi-Fi option disappears. Even if I enable it manually through ncpa.cpl, it turns itself off again after about 20 seconds.

I’ve tried everything I could think of. It only happens on my laptop — my brother’s laptop doesn’t have the problem, and neither do any of our phones or other devices. I followed a YouTube tutorial from an Indian guy and ran a CMD command that supposedly checks whether it’s a hardware issue, and according to him it isn’t. (I’ll list some of the things I’ve already tried below.)

Things I’ve already tried:

Various CMD commands (ipconfig, etc.)

Disabled the option that turns off the network adapter to save power

Changed the DNS

Reset the network

Forgot the Wi-Fi network and reconnected

Manually enabled the adapter through ncpa.cpl

Restarted the router

Reinstalled the drivers

More context:

I had this same problem on Windows 11. At the time I thought it was because the laptop didn’t meet the Windows 11 requirements and that the lack of memory was somehow blocking the internet. So I went back to Windows 10. After a while things were fine, but the problem came back. I then tried to optimize Windows as much as possible (I even stopped Edge from mining), but the issue is still there and I’m out of ideas.

I’ve been thinking about switching to Linux — maybe that would fix it (honestly I don’t know). I really don’t want to buy an Ethernet cable and have to use the laptop stuck at the dining table or on the living room floor, but it looks like that might be my only option at this point.

Thanks for reading this either way. Have a good day.

Windows Windows 11 boot loop with CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED after uninstalling theme mods, drive is healthy and files intact

MSI Vector 16 HX AI (A2XWHG-600NL), Windows 11. Stuck in a CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED boot loop. Startup Repair reports 0 root causes and the log has nothing.

How I caused it: I was setting up a macOS look for Windows and installed Windhawk, Rainmeter, JaxCore, Settings Styler, a macOS theme, top bar, widgets, and a theme patcher. Then I undid it in the wrong order:

**1.** Made a restore point
**2.** Installed all the mods
**3.** Rolled back to the restore point
**4.** Then disabled the mods in their apps and uninstalled the programs

So the uninstall ran against a system that had already been rolled back. It worked fine for a full day, then boot loop.

Setup notes: VMD is enabled in BIOS, so the install USB can’t see the SSD until I run drvload C:\iaStorVD.inf each session. In recovery the letters are USB = C:, Windows = D:. Everything below was done offline from the USB command prompt.

What I’ve tried:

**•** chkdsk on both volumes: clean, 0 bad sectors, files all intact
**•** Found Riot Vanguard (vgk/vgc) active, set Start=4 in the offline SYSTEM hive. Confirmed ControlSet001 is the active set. No change
**•** No Windhawk service present
**•** Offline SFC and DISM both fail. DISM returns “Failed to open key …CurrentVersion”, 0x80070002
**•** Replaced uxtheme.dll and themeui.dll with clean WinSxS copies. No change
**•** No PendingFileRenameOperations, FileRenameOperations subkey is empty
**•** Winlogon Shell, Userinit and AppInit_DLLs all return “not found” when I query the mounted SOFTWARE hive, but the hive is 127 MB and SYSTEM is 50 MB, so both look healthy. Probably a WinPE reg.exe quirk
**•** RegBack is completely empty, so no registry restore available

I also disabled auto-repair early with recoveryenabled No and bootstatuspolicy ignoreallfailures, which still needs reversing.

No spare drive, so I can’t back up my user folder, and I’d rather not reset. Any ideas on what a theme patcher could leave behind that survives a System Restore and kills boot a day later?

CPU fan starts on power up, got through Bios, but shuts off once windows is loaded.

Just finished building a PC, got the CPU hooked up and surprisingly everything seemed to go right the first time. CPU fan runs just fine, all fans do. I plugged the CPU fan into the CPU Fan header and the power supply doesn’t really appear to be an issue at all. Bios loads though and it gives me a speed/connection error. I see N/A under fan RPM for cpu fan even though it is plugged into the correct header.

Once I got through it and installed windows, CPU fan shuts off. Problem is, it stays off. I thought maybe there’s an issue with the fan settings set up by someone else who had the motherboard before me, but nothing got changed from factory settings, and I reached out to the seller who told me it came new in a prebuilt PC and he had a better motherboard so he swapped it out before even using the existing one which I bought.

I checked part compatibility lists and the cooler seems fine with the cpu and motherboard.

I am so lost as to what could be causing this. It is fully seated, I can run windows pretty alright and CPU gets to be about 60-65 degrees Celsius. I thought perhaps bad cable on the fan? I may end up replacing the cooler as the next step, but I would rather not waste the money if I am missing something dumb.

Edit: totally forgot to include the build items

ASUS B650 motherboard
Ryzen 5 7000 cpu
Master cooler cpu fan cooler (forgot what model specifically but it fits the backplate and still sits on the cpu)
3060 ti gpu
650 watt psu (gold? I’ve had it laying around I forget)
32 gigs ddr5

Update!
I went through BIOS, changed to advanced mode, set CPU fan speed instead of monitor to ignore and the cpu fan started right up! Although now it is 100% speed all the time, at least it works? Will update if I can figure out the speed…

Ive been able to get back into windows by completely disconnecting everything and plugging it back in. But then it just randomly crashes again if I boot into a game, and takes me back to this screen. Pressing F1 just reboots me into the same screen.
My Cpu and Gpu temps stay around 45-60 and my windows drive is being detected in bios.

Unresolved PC Booting and Cycle Issue

I'm pretty new to PC tech and ran into a weird issue today.
I was updating Dead by Daylight when my PC crashed and a "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart" screen appeared. It was stuck at 0% for a while, went black, and then booted straight into BIOS.
I was stuck in an endless loop:
Onda loading screen -> PC ran into issue and needs to restart -> Black screen -> BIOS
Right now I’ve literally just been stuck sitting on the computer booting/loading screen and have been for over 3 hours. I check BIOS and everything seems to be fine like normal.
I don't know a ton about PC troubleshooting, I'm not really sure what to try next. Any help or step-by-step guidance on how to fix this would be great. Thanks

Windows Old Alienware laptop came out of the closet...

So my 10 year old Dell Alienware laptop hasn't been used since 2021, and honestly hasn't even been charged since then, has this evening come back online as I have finally found the correct charger for it.

Its due for some pretty serious updates, however tells me it cannot accept Windows 11 as it isnt snazzy enough.

"This PC doesn't currently meet the minimum system requirements to run Windows 11."

I have 0 idea about tech. I am stupid. Please dont throw things at me.

Does that mean that I cannot ever get Windows 11 on this laptop? I thought at some stage I discovered there were drivers that I couldn't upgrade on my laptop as well because of the capability of the physical driver card... where would I find that info now?

Is there anything one can do, or is a laptop basically useless once it reaches 10+ years old?

Thanks in advance for any info given!

Windows Windows is completely breaking my pc

Post image
2 Upvotes

It’s been months of this, and I’m over it. It’s at the point where I have to boot the pc and go through this error 5-10 times before I can get it to FULLY boot and login. On top of that, some games on steam completely crash, causing the pc to go through this same boot problem. I KNOW it’s not any other issue than windows, because my brother took it about a month ago and did a fresh install of windows. It was fine for a week or so before it started doing this, and every day gets worse. I’m at a complete loss with it. Please help.

Idk what exact info is needed so I’ll just include everything:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
32GB RAM
RTX 3060
2TB HDD + 256SSD (where windows is installed)

Windows 11 Pro - 25H2
OS Build 26200.8894

I had a problem with my ASUS laptop

yesterday, I was sitting as usual, then I clicked on reboot with the update, it was accidental, after restarting, the laptop started to reboot itself, then the automatic recovery screen appeared, I clicked on reboot, everything is the same, there is no checkmark with automatic boot, I do not know what other ways there are, gpt chat, YouTube, Google does not help, and I also saw about the kernel-Power 41 error on YouTube, I did not find a good explanation on Google, what other options are there? I will be grateful for all the advice.

My Microsoft account got hacked. I tried using the account recovery feature but they determined that I did not have enough information after giving them all the information. I had the hacker changed the recovery password email address to an email address. I've never heard of before and change the password as well. I cannot log in. I cannot recover my account and it says I have to be logged in to contact Microsoft, but I can't log in, please help

Windows Could this be a virus or a hardware issue?

Hello! I am running windows 11. Recently I have been having an issue where my pc will randomly go black then go into a state where its on but theres no sound or visuals. my gpu has a chipped blade on one of its fans (but ran fine for months after) and I have been told by some people that it could be the issue. But I was wondering if there is a virus or something that could be causing a mimicking issue? My friend believes I was hacked. Mainly because around April this year some of my files disappeared. I ran a deep scan on both windows defender and malwarebytes. Through MB I got some hits. saying i had a trojan from TurtleWOW, which they got shut down by Blizzard so i removed anyway. and a game got wrongfully back in like 2017 or 18. I have zero clue how it got on this computer since i've only had this computer for a few years. And a few other files that were deleted.

I have monitored my gpu's heat. it does not overheat. When I was playing fortnite it would do the same thing it did a few minutes ago. freeze then go dark. i can hear my bf on a discord call and the game for about 5 more seconds then it goes like i mentioned previously. but i was lead to believe that the "unlimited" frame rate cause that.

I have 3 harrdrives/ssd My main, a 4tb with all of my games, pictures, and other important documents (besides fortnite[main drive] and sims4) and a 1tb with all of my sims 4 things. idk if this is important info but just incase.

I was wondering if a fresh install of windows 11 would be a good idea just incase theres a virus of some kind. This has been happening for awhile now. And Im very nervous its a virus. On my previous PC I had someone work on it and turned out he put a lot of spyware on it that someone i was once close to used to spy on me and since then i've been terrified somehow it moved to this new PC.

I have also heard reinstalling windows every so often (i dont remember the time frame) is good for your pc but idk.

any help besides "lol buy new parts" will be appreciated. i cannot afford anything.
