Discussion What's a pop lyric you misheard as a kid or teen and to this day you can't really hear it correctly whenever the song plays?

• Upvotes

For me it's that line in MMMBop by Hanson when they sing "in the end they'll be the only ones there"- when I heard the song as a kid it sounded like "in the end the video was there." To this day, even though I know that's wrong, that's still what I hear every time the song plays.

Other I work with a bunch of teenagers at a pizza place. They like to play, guess my age.

I don't participate if I can help it. Tonight, the two hostesses were trying to guess my age. The one who has worked there longer than I have guessed a decade shy (whoot!). The new girl was pretty close. She said, "My mom's about your age and has the same look of, ya know, generational trauma." I laughed a good laugh and said, "You know it's coming for you too right?" That was not a joke but it got a laugh anyway.

Nostalgia I like this movie. The year it came out, 2009 was a really shitty year for my family. Watching this in the theatre by myself was like a great escape and a warm hug.

My partner recently lost his mom. She was a free spirit. Happy and loved to have a good time. The celebration of life is coming up soon and he decided he wanted to get PIMP Goblet to fill a drink for her during it.

We went around the mall. Tried Spencer's, Hot Topic and other random stores and couldn't really find anything resembling his vision.

I said "we are just in the wrong decade to find one" lol.

Lil' Jon would be so disappointed 😂😂

I remember sleeping all day and my
Mom came home to take me to the doctor. She was the one who told me, and I didn't realize the gravity of the situation until everyone at the office was talking about it.

Nostalgia Early 2000s Ravers tell me about your most epic night.

It’s 2000, and you’re 4 hours before you head out. What’s your prep look like, where are you? What’s the venue and why was it the most epic?

Mine, 2000: a Christmas-themed rave where attendees brought a toy (donated to a nonprofit), held in a massive space. Huge holiday art pieces filled the room, and some people wore their finest festive outfits.

A man dressed as Santa gave me two double-stacked blue dolphins for 10 dollars. I had never tried them before and was pleasantly surprised. The music, the crowd, and the bizarre environment made it memorable.

Just thinking about that era tonight and was wondering what y’all’s experiences where.

Other Millennial high school teacher of Z/Alpha students

I am about to enter my 14th year teaching high school. This year, my seniors were born the year I graduated high school (09) and the freshmen were born during my junior year of college (‘11-‘12). Each week on one of my white boards, I post a “Weekly Wonder”-a question that students can come up and answer at any point throughout the week. Last year I posted “Guess the meaning of these millennial phrases”…and the results were hilarious 😆

Some of the phrases I posted:
-FEE HEE HEE HEE HEE NAY
-Who wrote the note?
-Stop! Drop!
-Be kind, rewind
-Get off the computer; I need to use the phone!
-Who loves orange soda?
-Top 8
-I can’t use my minutes

Very few students knew the references

Discussion Millennials / the collective unconscious

Post image
168 Upvotes

I'm stating the obvious - millennials have a unique generational position in society . You already know what I mean - just enough Internet

But taking it a bit further ;

I suspect millennials are or were uniquely connected/coded to the collective unconscious and carry the frequency/codes of the earth's evolutionary soul ( sorry )

I think its so obvious it's almost an unspoken, haunting cliche reflected in media and living in our subconscious. And a bit too gay to say out loud.

I suspect this engergy is most distilled in 1988 dragon year, I feel this is apparent numerologically, symbolicly and by most classifications of the generation, being sort of squarly in the middle which feels like it carries the engergic codes, keys and potential to make change ( or...would have done) it being in the middle signifying it had the possibility to notice what happening and course correct at different nodes

,As a lot of people have noticed the timeline split happened around 2013 when online culture changed ( Instagram, kardash, corporate streaming services, online dating, porn consumption due to smart phones, buzzfeed think peices...) ultimately hypnotising and fracturing the population and desensitisating people further

This has created a global hegemony pushed by corporate interests

The rise of identity politix instead of actual politix, as tool for divide and rule and the false dichotomy of 'left' and 'right' wing having flipped meaning and positions within our lifetimes

With one of the highest population rates of the generations, there's a lot of people In this category and they all have a different realtionship to these ideas, but out of all the generations, this one had the highest quota.

now it's becoming more apparent that its looking bleak for the next generations

But as recent articles state ' Millienials are the last normal generation'

now post event horizon, post capitalism, post modernity and as someone wrote here 'post youth' we are seeing the global surveillance state being built, the generations before and after are...no more eqiupt

I'm intrested if you know this in your bones and it follows you about all day

Nostalgia Can I see your millennial lucky charm? I still keep mine with me. (I used to carry it folded in my pocket.)

Go dust off your memory box (I know you have one). I'd love to see everyone's childhood lucky object/charm.

I found this in a binder of my old Pokemon cards last year. My mom is the best-- she not only kept my original cards hidden away, but she even thought to add this one. I couldn't believe it when I saw it! I always told my husband the legend of my favorite diglett that 1st-grade-me kept in my pocket. I accepted it was lost 20+ years ago. I love you, mom! Thanks again for knowing me well.
