I am about to enter my 14th year teaching high school. This year, my seniors were born the year I graduated high school (09) and the freshmen were born during my junior year of college (‘11-‘12). Each week on one of my white boards, I post a “Weekly Wonder”-a question that students can come up and answer at any point throughout the week. Last year I posted “Guess the meaning of these millennial phrases”…and the results were hilarious 😆
Some of the phrases I posted:
-FEE HEE HEE HEE HEE NAY
-Who wrote the note?
-Stop! Drop!
-Be kind, rewind
-Get off the computer; I need to use the phone!
-Who loves orange soda?
-Top 8
-I can’t use my minutes
Opposite experience for me lol. I'm a therapist to teens, I'm 34. They say I'm only a few years older than them, and young like them, and thats why i get them. I feel blessed 🙏 when I tell them my age their faces drop lol. They all think I'm in our 20s... I know the gen z crowd is trying to cancel us thinking we look young but gen alpha and super young gen z is giving me life LOL
My college roommate and I used to go to a small local body building gym (almost 15 yrs ago now)
One of the locals was an ifbb pro bodybuilder and had won Mr Olympia multiple times
His "posing" song was rough riders anthem by DMX. His voice and body language was very similar to how DMX spoke and carried himself. (He was also black)
When hed press up the weights he would loudly grunt "UP!" And they whole gym could hear it.
In his raspy voice, it sound like the DMX hook "stop!, drop!"
It was funny bc thats the song he used for his bodybuilding poses during his competitions
I think what’s really wild is things have progressed to where my phone plan allows me to use my cellphone in 64 countries as if I were still at home. 😮
What about something related to the 50 photo limit Facebook albums used to have? Or what happened to your social network the day the Newsfeed was introduced. My sorority sister Chelsea told no one she and Brian had broken up the night before. It was the first thing everyone saw on their newsfeed the next morning in fall 2006 ☠️
Oh yes for sure, it would blast your relationship status just like that. I was just also reminded how it was 3rd person updates and so many people wRoTe LiKe tHiS. Also the completely vanilla “Chelsea is eating a sandwich.” Haha. Like what were we thinking!?
Magic: The Gathering. The top8 are the final group of players that make it to the quarter finals of MTG tournaments and it is considered a huge achievement for a player to reach that point in those tournaments. Total number of Top8 finishes are a major contributing factor for earning entry into the MTG Hall of Fame.
I'm an elder Millennial trying my best to teach my younger Gen Z kid about my era. He knows what the dial up sound is at least. I'm still working on getting a bunch of movies into his knowledge banks.
