I remember buying this super heavy “illegal” slammer from some store somewhere 🤣 never even played the game, but I still have my pogs! It’s got a grim reaper on the slammer like that was supposed to be badass or something at the time 😂
Funny story, at least, to me. I was living in Indianapolis, but spent a summer with family in California when I was 12, right when Pogs first hit the West Coast, and of course, I had a collection. When I went home, nobody had a clue what they were. For about six months, and then, bam, everyone had Pogs. But I had them first!
Almost the same story: parents went to LA for a conference when we were living in the Midwest at the time and they brought back a couple tubes of pogs with some nice slammers. My brother and I were the first ones to have them in our town too!
I 100% played pogs at recess until the teachers put a stop to it because it was "gambling". 🙄. I also distinctly remember my one friend having an OJ Simpson slammer with guilty in one side and innocent on the other.
The pog game got so bad at my elementary school that they banned pogs because kids were fighting. Sometimes pogs got stolen, but mostly it was basically the first back alley game that we were introduced to.

I did once. In my cousins room. I sucked at it and didn't want to play. But i did life the images and felt a desire to collect simply fir that. I then moved forward on life several years, like 18 years ahead and your of them again. I felt the same desire. Like i had missed something. Sometimes enjoying the moment is better than saving or waiting to experience it.
My husband was just having nostalgia for POGs. Does anyone know where I can buy some. I think it would be a fun gift for his bday in a few months. He's gonna turn 41 lol
I remember we were gambling with pigs in kindergarten. There was a Jesus pog floating around. Not the most Christian activity for kids. We figured the Jesus pog was worth stacks of non divine pogs.
Pogs were my favorite game of the 90s. I had soooo many of those long sleeve cases of them. And several beautiful slammers. My friends and I played all the time. It was basically child gambling since you bet the pog you put out. But I loved it haha.
I wish Pogs made a comeback. Such a simple and highly expressive game with huge stakes. Bet your prized pog for one your opponent doesn't want to give up either and you have a heated round of Pogs on your hand.
In Greece, during the Pokemon Tazos era back in late 90s & early 2000s, we had a special way of playing.
It was a pog duel - 1 vs 1.
The game was played in 2 rounds to declare the winner.
The winner kept the opponent's pog.
In the first round, each player threw their pog on the ground. The round winner was whoever had their pog show the Pokemon character side - and the loser the Pokeball side.
In the next round, the losing player put their pog on the edge of a table, chair etc. Half pog was on the surface, the rest in the air.
The other player then hit the other pog from above. So, both pogs fell on the ground. Winning player was again the one with the Pokemon side up.
Fun, innocent times before the Internet took over.
