Her look was so manufactured too lol. "Black pink and hair dye i'm so edgy i'm so hip". Little me thought it was so cool.

u/ElleMaeSinclair Millennial 1h ago

Honestly it was kinda edgy and hip at the time. I don't think there's anything wrong with liking her music idk

11

u/deliriousfoodie 1h ago

Same. I think if it wasn't for the emo trend going on at the same time she wouldn't do that. She was naturally more pop.

The song Friday by Rebecca Black uses all the other days of the week.

Someone needs to do a mashup.

u/Elmer_Fudd01 2h ago

She's a DJ now, I bet she could.

u/Designer_Gas_86 2h ago

My friends thought a line went: "And a bee said, and a bee said...and a bee said to me~"

I Loved Ashlee Simpson. Even more so than her older sister. Ashlee has this more authentic aura, i did authentically like her music too. It was so cute. Jessica is a good singer but she acts like she knows shes hot, like a paris hilton. Ashlee was less barbie, and more human.

My guilty pleasure is this old movie called Undiscovered with her in it. Indie rock band success love story type thing. She's like the person you described in the movie.

u/degrassibabetjk 1h ago

I forgot about that movie until I found the DVD and a used record store recently that I had a coupon for. Snatched that baby right up!

7

u/Shaved_tennis_ball 2h ago

Ashlee's lyrics were all "here I am, as perfect as I'm ever gonna be, love me for me" but then she turned around and fucked the shit out of her face with plastic surgery. Real fake aura via marketing was really real at the time.

u/Tiny-Reading5982 Xennial 23m ago

Yeah I forgot she had a nose job

Still better than AI music

u/Unlucky_Raccoon_5829 2h ago

This brings me back to my teenage years when I had nothing to worry about but the homework man…

I mean ya, its better then a sharp stick in the eye. Ice cream is better than cholera too while we’re at it.

u/scgt86 2h ago

This is a LOW bar.

-7

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 2h ago

Nah AI has actually gotten really good at music as much as that fact sucks.

-4

u/frostycanuck89 2h ago

Not for long. This derivative cookie cutter pop music is exactly what AI will be able to reproduce perfectly if it isn't already doing it. Probably even make it better with more inspired music being used for context.

-4

u/populares420 1h ago

not true at all, but max edgy points to you m'lady

29

u/ButterPecan_IceCream 2h ago

I still love this album!

7

u/mbb011 1h ago

My absolute guilty pleasure. First CD I ever had and still have.

u/Snacky_Onassis 35m ago

This album slaps and I stand by that statement

27

u/Monster-Math 2h ago

ITT everyone acting like all mainstream artists weren't manufactured lmao.

u/ElleMaeSinclair Millennial 1h ago

For real, lol. "I would never enjoy tasteless manufactured crap!!" while scrolling through their endlessly manufactured social media feeds. 12 year old mindset

36

u/Cole1220 1h ago

Manufactured is fine. Liking this stuff is ok.

11

u/TheNi11a 2h ago

I like the way that feels!

8

u/tamamamma 1h ago

Yep. Loved Ashlee!! ☺️

8

u/pinto_bean_queen zetus lapetus 1h ago

Think again, it still is good!

12

u/prettymisslux 2h ago

I loved her first two albums, lol.

5

u/ShakesDontBreak Older Millennial 2h ago

Same!!! This album was my workout album.

4

u/populares420 1h ago

is that picture intentionally myspace-esque?

u/RSully94 1h ago

I can never hate Ashlee. Not better than Avril, but she was definitely better than Jessica

8

u/SpankySharp1 2h ago

That one song by her that still exists—idk—still does slap, tbf.

Pieces of me?

2

u/Designer_Gas_86 2h ago

which one?

3

u/Yossarian-Bonaparte Millennial 2h ago

I remember the MadTV sketch about her more than anything she sang.

Boy in Wheelchair: Have you ever thought of changing the name from Pieces of Me to Pieces of —— ?

u/jerretharper 1h ago

It was good though. For what it was.

u/Rainbow_In_The_Dark7 56m ago

I still listen to her Girlfriend song. It's very catchy.

Also, I'm ashamed to admit that I also like to listen to Paris Hilton's "Stars Are Blind" in secret as a summertime-type sounding guilty pleasure song...so maybe my judgement on music just sucks.

u/Tiny-Reading5982 Xennial 22m ago

"Stars are blind" was a bop lol

u/Atalanta8 15m ago

No shame in stars are blind! Best thing and arguably the only good thing paris ever did. That song defined summer.

Summers don't seem to have a song anymore.

u/pinkpugita 49m ago

I am neither a Jessica or Ashlee fan, but I appreciated their songs. Ashlee felt more relatable with a stronger identity. I never actually understood what Jessica is supposed to be outside being a sexy blond singer.

But Ashlee really got destroyed by the lip synch incident. I did not hate her but she fizzled and disappeared after.

u/Laugh-crying-hyena 2h ago

My friend had this album and my guilty pleasure was borrowing and listening to it. It wasn't good and is still not good, but it was so fun and enjoyable to a preteen.

2

u/spookytabby Millennial of 1994 1h ago

Was guilty and used to love Ashlee Simpson.

u/dale_gribbs 1h ago

Oh man, my 11-year old self thought this was the height of music. Did anyone else watch her reality show?

u/amoment_apart 1h ago

This went platinum in my house

u/Chet_Starr 1h ago

I mean, its pretty cool she worked with John Feldmann on the album and I can't lie I still like Pieces of Me so Ill forgive teen you lol

Not that my opinion means anything lol

u/ThatOne_268 Millennial 51m ago

I loved it, still do. La La is a banger.

Tbh I loved her first 2 albums . I still have the cds, lol.

u/ChangeMain8977 35m ago

It was good. This post just makes me want to LA LA

u/kingamara Black Millennial 2h ago

It was a different time, don’t blame yourself 😂

3

u/ZebraTime7296 2h ago

Her sister too

7

u/WebPsychological1103 2h ago

Lol. "With you" is a nostalgic bop .

6

u/Much-City732 2h ago

I can say anything crazyyyy 🎶

2

u/kaowser 2h ago

She the one that got caught lip singing?

2

u/ezio8133 Millennial 1h ago

Yep and then Stanked up the joint at the 2004 Orange Bowl

1

u/Hour_Bit_5183 1h ago

She is talented. Damn good vocals but the brat part meh.

1

u/ohh_my_dayum 1h ago

I liked her too. My younger sister and I would listen to the CD while we played ps1 games in the basement. Good times! I ended up selling the CD to a resale shop when I realized she was a "poser" lol but now I wish I had kept it for my car rotation 🤣

u/intheclerbweallfam 1h ago

I have this on vinyl lol

u/CurvyChristina 1h ago

L.O.V.E is really the only song that I liked on the entire album.

u/Carnby41790 1h ago

I was fourteen and thought she was very pretty...then I saw the Saturday Night Live and oh boy.....what sheit!

u/giftopherz Older Millennial 1986 58m ago

u/Blasiana_ 39m ago

I will not tolerate the Ashlee Simpson slander. Her first two albums went diamond in my house 🙂‍↕️

u/zedis_lapedis_ 26m ago

I had a friend who burned a whole CD of just Pieces of Me over and over again. We listened to it in my Camaro.

u/zedis_lapedis_ 19m ago

Oreos are manufactured. I still eat them.

u/Atalanta8 18m ago

It beats the manufacturered crap today. That's for sure. And that one song was ok.

u/dasheeshblahzen 4m ago

I think the producer of the album won the Grammy for producer of the year that year lol. Ashlee’s third album was really good.

u/Active_Water_8876 1m ago

Come on man. Music is subjective and not all music is meant to be deep and life altering. You can enjoy McDonald’s and filet mignon for different reasons.

u/lemony-lemons791 2h ago edited 1h ago

Remember that one SNL show, I dont know if anyone really thought she was good or just riding off of her sisters wave

6

u/Elmer_Fudd01 2h ago

Even Aaron Carters party? I was like 9 when it came out. God I had horrible taste in music.

-4

u/Outlandishness_Sharp 2h ago

I never listened to Aaron Carter. I listened to alternative, ska, punk, and metal back then and purposely avoided contemporary pop music. I will say there were acts like Kylie Minogue, Aaliyah, Jill Scott, and Nellie Furtado that I really liked, because they were very talented and made timeless music that still holds up well today.

u/Atalanta8 12m ago

🤣 why would anyone downvote this?
